And the last time it vanished, Ireland fell under the Great Famine. A secret society known as The Council decrees that if Stacy finds the cauldron, she’ll receive the coveted role of Seeker of Justice, and her mother will finally be freed from prison in Ireland. But the grandson of nasty council member Tallulah challenges Stacy for the role. If he finds the cauldron first, Stacy will never see her mother again. And if they both fail, the world will suffer an unimaginable fate. The fourth book in the enchanted Stacy Justice series, Emerald Isle follows Stacy’s journey to Ireland―and to a mysterious, magical world. Looking back on my previous reviews of the first three Stacy Justice books, I’m not entirely sure why I looked forward to reading this book so much (actually I was listening to the audiobook). I’d been pretty lukewarm about the entire series and I guess I just hoped it would finally evolve into something. Come on. This is book four!
Instead, I was met with virtually no character development with Stacy and a plot that was dull and full of holes.
The first 20 percent of the book was spent either educating the reader on random Pagan history and holidays (a tidbit here and there is fine, but I was inundated with more information than I needed to know instead of furthering the plot) or devoted to other pointless things such as Birdie hitting a mailbox and the aunts trying to find Stacy after she disappears into “The Web of Weird” when she just comes back on her own.
Yes, I said “Web of Weird.” That was a real thing. It went along great with all the ridiculous rhyming spells and limericks. Maybe it was an attempt at comedy, but they all took it so seriously that I don’t think it was
The next 70 percent of the book felt like burecreatic paperwork. Stacy is supposed to be confirmed as a witch or whatever and they spend much of the time discussing who gets to be the all mighty Seeker of Justice. There are meetings and, briefly, a competition — which should’ve been exciting but was pointless.
Half of the book is told from Birdie’s perspective, which I thought might prove insightful. Nope. All I got was more Geraghty Women RahRahRah! and some childish catty behavior with her lifetime nemesis. What was the point? Can you tell me?
The action at the end was so brief and convoluted that I can only assume it was an afterthought. Ever read a book where most of the solutions to problems seem to be solved by the author just inventing random rules that suit the situation? Welcome to the Web of Stacy Justice.
I would recommend this book for die-hard Stacy Justice fans who loved the previous books.
I would not recommend this book for people who were on the fence about liking these books.
Stacy Justice arrives at her destiny, if she can survive the outcome, in Barbra Annino’s Emerald Isle.
Although Emerald Isle is book four of the Stacy Justice Mysteries, Annino supplied just the right amount of backstory, so I was easily able to follow the storyline and characters without having read the previous books.
Annino breathes life into each character. I enjoyed the dual points of view between Stacy (first person) and Birdie (third person) and was emotionally invested in the characters. Thor, Stacy’s familiar and Great Dane, made me smile. Fiona and Lolly had me laughing at their antics. Chance, Stacy’s boyfriend, brings a flash of passionate romance to the storyline as well. I loved the gray area between the other characters—whether they were friend or foe.
The storyline carried me along at a fast pace. At times, I wanted to slow down just a little bit to get a fuller understanding of the world, but at the same time, I never felt lost in the plot. The stakes are high, and the ending equally surprised me and sent me through a wonderful emotional roller coaster. The worldbuilding between where Stacy lives and Ireland as well as all the magical references with the Celtic gods/goddesses and mythology fascinated me. Annino made the world feel real.
For an entertaining read, I would highly recommend Emerald Isle by Barbra Annino and can’t wait to read the previous three books in the series!
What was this? The whole story was very strange and not comparable with the other parts. I was really disappointed. Only Stacy's comments made me smile. For the rest I was only frowning. The end with its further revelations about Stacy's life story give this book a positive touch. I really hope the next books will go on like the others before this outlier.
I love this series! This 4th installment is excellent!!!!!! The story was fast-paced, the characters were in-depth and real, and the humor was great. I highly recommend this entire series. I can't wait for number 5!
Excellent book. I love Ireland and Toni back on a book is almost as thrilling as being. The Geraghty Girls are at it again. Stacy Justice is up to neck in trouble again, but Bertie is not for behind her this time. A fun read, as is the series.
YAY finally finished this book, I just love this series and I love that it is free on KU. I am sad it took me forever to finish but I am completely ready to start the next booki.
I just wish I had time to write proper reviews on goodreads, maybe here soon....
Stacy and the gang head to Ireland to rescue her mother. This author mixes enough humor in her books to make reading a truly enjoyable experience. Looking forward to the next installment.
Amazing read! This is one of my favorites in this series so far. I love how Stacy fully embraces her witch side and is determined to find the cauldron to save her mother. I hated the ghost that kept trying to harm her and was glad when he was sent away. I love that they got her mother back and how old enemies became allies. I was glad that Stacy was resurrected because that came as a surprise.
Emerald Isle opens up with everybody preparing for Stacy’s 29th birthday. You might think 29, what’s so special about that? But witches count from their actual birth making it her 30th birthday, the one where she’ll come into her full magical powers! But in true Stacy fashion the gathering becomes quite the disaster, ending with Stacy missing and her guests unconscious complete with one wrapped up in a rug!
But worse than all of that is the news that one of the council’s magical treasures, the cauldron, has gone missing! The last time it disappeared a horrendous famine occurred, so now the council wants Stacy to prove she is the rightful Seeker of Justice by finding the lost treasure. And, if she succeeds she will also be able to free her mom from the prison she’s been in since killing a man to protect Stacy! If that wasn’t enough pressure, Birdie’s school rival is convinced her grandson is the true Seeker and if he finds the cauldron first he will be confirmed instead of Stacy and her mom will never be freed!
So now Stacy, Thor, Birdie, Fiona, Lolly, John, and even Gramps head off to Ireland for an adventure they won’t soon forget!
I really enjoyed this story! It’s a perfect mix of adventure and humor and I just ate it up! It’s a quick and fun read, just like the earlier installments of the series, and you will definitely enjoy catching up with Stacy and her quirky family and friends!
Sadly, Chance wasn’t in this one a whole lot, but the time he was there was great!
“It’s my job to worry about you. I’m in love with you, Stacy. I have been ever since I can remember. It’s always been you.”
I adore him, even when he’s upset with Stacy!
“You’re the most important person in my life,” I whispered. “You’re the only man I ever let in.”
“But I’m not in, Stace. I’m standing on the porch in the pouring rain, waiting for you to open the door. I’ve been waiting ever since you left after graduation, ever since you came back last year. Even now, you’ve let me into your bed, but not into your heart. I’m still waiting.”
But this book has so much going on that you don’t have time to miss Stacy’s stud muffin! I just hope to see more of him in future installments (I’m hoping there are still future installments)!
We also got a look at Birdie’s past in this one. Namely her vendetta with her nemesis, Tallulah! It gave more depth to what was going on in their present life and really helped tie everything together.
Surprisingly, I really found myself enjoying Stacy’s competition, Ethan. His ‘who cares’ attitude was kind of fun in a castle full of such serious people! I especially enjoyed him when he would say or do something that goes against his grandmother’s wishes. His come-ons to Stacy were a bit sudden and skeevy, but I guess it adds to his …. ‘charm’.
“May I be excused, or would you like my assistance toweling off?” Ethan asked. “My grandmother is expecting me, and she hates when I’m late, although I’m willing to risk the wrath if you’d like to continue this conversation.”
Bottom line: all of this stuff I just mentioned adds up to an interesting and fun book that you won’t want to miss, complete with twists I never expected!

Emerald Isle (A Stacy Justice Mystery ) Book 4 Author: Barbra Annino Publisher: Thomas & Mercer Published: Kindle Edition: 7-2-2013 Pages: ISBN: 13-978-147780-584-8 10-147780-584-2
Stacy is awakened by her grandmother on her 29th birthday to find that she is actually considered to be 30 by the ancient druid practice that a person is the age of the of 1 the day they are born. The 30th birthday has a special meaning to women born into the Geraghty line. They come into their full power as a witch. As she tries to get her foggy brain wrapped around the concept Stacy starts her day with a stop at the paper to talk to the new editor, Derek. Being the senior partner Stacy is not pleased to find that Derek has hired Monique to write a sex advice column. having no choice but to agree Stacy goes to her office where an apparition locks her in to give her a cryptic warning.
When Stacy later meets her cousin Cinnamon for a spa day she is given a wrapped package from her grandfather. The accompanying card reads only "For Stacy Justice when the time is right." Stacy wonders if anything in her life will ever be straight forward again. She puts the gift away to open later and plans to enjoy herself.
Meanwhile Birdie gets an urgent message from a council member telling her one of the four treasures, the cauldron, is missing and the council wants The Seeker of Justice to come to find it immediately. Time is of the essence, the last time the cauldron was stolen the great famine swept Ireland. Birdie agrees to the request without talking to Stacy and when she finds out about it from an old nemesis of Birdie's, Stacy becomes angry. She is tired of being used as a pawn and lets her smart mouth get her into trouble once more.
When she rejects her heritage in front of the portrait of Danu, the goddess is quick to retaliate. Stacy is grabbed an jerked into the web of Wyrd. It is time for Stacy you can not run from destiny. Back at the inn the Geraghty sisters search for Stacy and begin to realize that she is in the otherworld and they must hurry to get her back before she is trapped forever.
Once again Barbra Annino opens with a scene that grabs you and refuses to relinquish you until the final line. The previous three books lead up to this installment. Stacy has been growing in maturity and power. She is learning to control her talent as well as family spells and history. What started in Book 1 "Opal Fire" culminates in "Emerald Isle" Stacy will meet up with her first familiar, and old friends. She finds out for herself that faeries can be dangerous when insulted and that free will is not always free.
She will travel in time and through dimensions. She will put her life on the line to fulfill her destiny. Above all she finds her grandmother is wrong spirits can harm you. If fact if your not careful they might even be able to kill you. I do not know if Ms. Annino plans more in this series, but I hope she does. I enjoyed this series immensely. It has humor, drama and suspense. This series is a keeper. Although this could be read as a stand alone I promise you will get more out of it if you read all books in order.
I love this series, I have from the very first book and everything that made me fall in love with this series is still going strong in this fourth installment. Humor, mystery, a little romance and a whole lot of crazy antics, ghosts, magic, and a cast full of loveable characters (oh Thor how I love thee!!), what more could a girl ask for?
Once again Stacy is in a little over her head and once again her grandma and great aunts are right in the thick of things with their mysterious ways, hints, crazy rituals and even crazier riddles. The Geraghty girls are a force to be reckoned with and when push comes to shove, they get the job done.
I have also loved the Geraghty girls, they are so quirky and fun and not to mention mysterious. When I found out that parts of this book would be through Birdie’s eyes as well, I was thrilled, to be able to get some insight and background on one of the most mysterious Geraghty girls? Count me in!
This whole book had a different feel to it than the others, Stacy is really starting to accept who she is and she is really coming into her own. I have always loved how strong and brave she is but now there is a fierce determination there as well, her true self is really coming through and shinning.
Thor is his wonderful comical self and I love him, the Geraghty girls are as fabulous as ever. Chance is as sweet as could be and even though he only has a tiny role in this one, he won me over even more with the part he did play.
So much happens, so much is revealed, and of course there is so much I can't tell you because it would ruin it all.
I can't help but feel like this could be the end of the series, it gave off that vibe for me and I am really hoping that that isn't the case because, I would be heartbroken. I would miss everyone and I am not ready to say good bye.
I don't usually quote books, mostly because those I read are ARC's and therefore it could change before the actual release but, once in a great while something will stand out to me and be so profound that I feel like I have to share it and this is one of those times.
“That it is important to be strong, courageous, and true to yourself, no matter what the rest of the world thinks. That the greatest mistakes in life are not the ones we make, but the ones that never get made because we are to afraid to try.”
That quote is just one of many reasons why I love this series so much.
Stacey is turning 29. It's the time for a witch to come into her full powers and Birdie, her grandmother, is convinced that she will be chosen as the Seeker of Justice. Birdie and her sisters have planned a ritual celebration for Stacey's birthday, but the news that one of the four magical treasures, the cauldron, has been stolen changes the focus. Stealing the cauldron is serious. It controls the world's food supply. Without it famine will spread and signal the end of the world.
The council agrees that Stacey should have the title Seeker of Justice, if she can retrieve the cauldron, and her mother will be freed from prison. She's been there for years for killing a man who tried to kill Stacey. However, Stacey has competition. Birdie's school rival, Tallulah, believes her grandson is the true seeker. The council agrees that they should both look for the cauldron. Whoever finds it will become the Seeker of Justice.
This is a fun read. Stacey and the Gerahety girls, her grandmother and aunts, are zany and amusing. The quest is exciting and filled with magical spells and adventure. If you like fantasy, this is a book you'll enjoy.
It's the fourth book in the series, but I found it was easy to read as a standalone. It's an enjoyable read with a twist at the end.
4 stars, though...a different kind of 4 stars from the other books. This one was really different form the 3 previous ones. What I super liked about this one was we get Birdie's perspective, we get to meet some different characters, we get a glimpse into the past and it was a completely different set up then the other books were. We got to see Ivy and John again, which is nice. Lolly surprised me and I just adored her, she was one of the most vivid characters of the series. What I missed--well, I missed Chance, I mean...we get him, and I love him, but I am always wishing there was a bit more of him. I kind of missed the formula of the other three, there was something in the town going on, and Stacy working and finding things out, although, each book was leading to this final one, so I understood the need to break from the norm. I was surprised, too...I wasn't sure who could be trusted and who couldn't. As always, with the witch history, I get a little confused because that particular point is just not that interesting to me. Overall, I really enjoyed this series and would definitely read more from this author and would recommend to fans of slightly supernatural, strong female lead characters that are funny and sarcastic and a good mystery.
The books in Barbra Annino's Stacy Justice series just keep getting better and better! The books should be read in order, however. If you're new to the series, begin with Book 1, Opal Fire, then read Book 2 (Bloodstone) and Book 3 (Tiger's Eye) first. Each of them have earned my Four Star seal of approval.
Emerald Isle is wonderful! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The storyline is told from the alternating points of view of Stacy (in 1st person) and her grandmother Birdie (in 3rd person), which is a new and interesting technique for the series. I learned more about Birdie (including her childhood) and the rest of Stacy's family. Emerald Isle is fast-paced -- I couldn't put it down, and finished it in one day! Most of the beloved characters from the three previous books are present, plus new ones, the Irish residents, are introduced.
I can't write much more about Emerald Isle without revealing spoilers. Here's a teaser, though. Stacy's nemesis from Tiger's Eye, the "feisty razor-toothed Chihuahua," makes an unexpected but very welcome appearance.
Better and better. Great light cleansing read. I read a lot of technical books. When I read for pleasure or mental escape I love cozy mysteries. The characters are fun, great chemistry and now in book four starting to have some depth. Story drew me in. Love Stacy's sass! I would have given 5 stars but just like in the movies the bedroom scene was unnecessary. I don't read romance novels for a reason. Just because we enjoy it in our lives doesn't mean I want to read about someone else's bed. Cozy mysteries are usually safe from this. Leave somethings to the imagination please. Elizabeth Peters was a master at it Also as the other 3 weren't like this no warning. We were listening on audio for a car trip. Mixed company group. Very awkward. My friends didn't appreciate it.
Stacy Justice is thrusted in to the otherworld,to find a stolen cauldron. What Stacy doesn't know is the locket given to her by her dead father can get her killed, some one else wants it and will do anything to get it. Stacy goes before the counsel, forced to prove her self, correct the past history of her grandmother. And, hope to see her mother. Only to put herself in danger that could take her life. This is a fun cast of characters, you can't help but smile at them. Some laugh out loud moments as the mystery of the stolen cauldron is uncovered and the killer revealed.
Another great and fun addition to the Stacy Justice series! I was a little sad there wasn't more Chance in this one, but I enjoyed the time we did get with him. And, there was so much going on with the hunt for the cauldron that I didn't have time to properly miss him!
As pervy as Ethan was at times, I found that I actually enjoyed him as well.
Is this the end??? Noooo! This whole series has just been a delight to read. Heck I finished this book in less than a days time. Knowing there isn't another book waiting for me to download now that I have finished this one just plain sucks. I really hope to see more! Highly recommended series!
This book was great! I loved it, the story line was really gripping. Romantic and frustrating at the most interesting times. I love this authors style of writing and will continue to read her books. Hopefully there will be a 5th Stacy Justice Mystery. :)
Interesting from the start. It was well written and easy to read. the story itself takes many twists and turns that are captivating and thrilling. the growth of certain characters is enjoyable and though kind of fast-paced, fits the story line well. Now on to book 5...
Book 5 of this series has Stacey having to face some major problems, both in the legal and the paranormal worlds.
We also find out that Birdie was laying plays for Stacey's paranormal involvement before the child was even born. She had decided the child would be a Seeker of Justice.
Forget any possibility that the child would have any choice in the matter. Of course. To me this is no better than the mothers who push their children into beauty competitions when they are still very young. It's wrong no matter how you look at it.
Also, Anastasia a name Birdie said was better for Stacey than the name Stacey's parents had chosen for her. Who gives her the right to name someone else's child?
Then there's the matter of whether 29 years equal 30 years, another not-so-birlliant move on Birdie's part done in order to get things going the way she wants them.
The supernatural problem is that 1 of 4 'treasures' is missing. It's a cauldron that if kept missing could bring starvation to the entire world.
Let's look at that line of reasoning for a moment. The cauldron did not always exist. Ireland was a land that did not have a human population for a long time because it was covered by ice.
So why didn't every single human being on Earth before the cauldron was made starve to death simply because the cauldron had not been made yet?
There's the Web of Wryd which is really interesting and a strong positive point for Stacey. She also meets some amazing people there. We also will be having in this book a union of the Seeker, the Warrior, the Guardian and the Mage. Everything that goes on with that group is also well done.
However, something is missing. The announcement is made that the cauldron is missing. Shouldn't the first thing that would be done been a meeting of the minds to determine things like who would have had a reason to take it, what would that reason have been, how could it have been stolen and what kind of power would a person have to pull that off.
Nope, let's not figure out the why or the where or the who. Let's just charge in and see what happens.
Then the ending part, where someone gets killed, sort of, is a little hard to believe.
I really like the parts of this book that had to do with Stacey and Ivy, but the horrible way Birdie has been running Stacey's life from before Stacey was even born, the concealing of truth for more than one person by Birdie and the rather convenient but unrealistic ending really hurt this book a lot.
Emerald Isle reads like two books in one. He first half of the book Stacy just want to enjoy a nice normal 29th birthday celebration. However, being a witch, normal escapes Stacy most often. Birdie and the aunties have a 30th year ritual planned out for Stacy but everything goes sideways when word reaches Birdie that an all important magic cauldron is missing and Stacy needs to find it. Birdie cuts a deal that Stacy will officially be known as the Seeker of Justice and her mother freed. Only a nemesis from Birdie past butts into family affairs sending Stacy spiraling into the Web of Wyrd.
In the Web of Wyrd, Stacy meets the Goddesses she has learned of as a child. She also comes to except her destiny and embrace herself as Stacy Justice, Seeker of Justice...
In the second half of the book now that Stacy has claimed herself, Birdie, the aunties, and her grandpa are off to Ireland in a race to find the cauldron that feeds the world. But upon arrival to the castle there is something more sinister lurking afoot.
A malevolent spirit is trying to kill Stacy. Her grandpa is under a love spell. Someone they trust is going to betray them. One of our beloved four corners will be dead before the ending.
Will Stacy be able harness her power and destiny before the cauldron is lost to the world?
4.5 Stars... Stacy travels into the heart of her ancestry in the beautiful landscapes of Ireland to undertake a quest and solidify her destiny... The past meets the present and myth challenges reality as family bonds are put to the ultimate test and lives hang in the balance... Filled with humor, magic, family, and mystery this read was thrilling and fascinating... I was truly captivated by the way in which this read delved into the connection between Stacy and Birdie and strengthened their relationship through understanding and appreciating the individuality of one another, but also recognizing the familial bond that is everlasting... A great mix of mythology and magic and family and love that simply leaves you wanting more:)
This is a fun mystery series, combined with some witchery and gaelic mythology interwoven into the story. Having traveled to Ireland, I can attest to the feeling of "ancient" throughout the land. It's easier there to believe in the fae than anywhere else. I remember walking through the woods there and thinking wow, this is a little bit magical. I also like the character of Thor, the Great Dane familiar, and the other dog characters that have been introduced throughout the series. The characters are well developed and "real" enough often times to cause me to chuckle at their dialogue interactions. Well worth your time if you enjoy a little mystery and magic in your life.
