Set in the Colorado Territory in 1873, this tale follows the softhearted-yet-determined Bianna Delaney as she searches for her kidnapped twin brother and find herself in the arms of a tough and ruthless man
Fayrene Preston was born in Texas, USA where she raised. Her high school years were straight out of the movie American Graffiti — good friends and that wonderful rock ‘n' roll. After high school, Fayrene attended college and earned an Associate degree in Business Administration.
Almost immediately afterward the university, she married a Navy man and for the next five years they traveled back and forth across America several times and lived on both coasts. Although the marriage didn't last, she was blessed with two completely wonderful sons, both grown now, and the most beautiful little granddaughter you've ever seen in your life!
She counts herself as very lucky. Books have always been an important part of her life, and now she gets to make her living by writing them. She can't think of anything to make one happier. She published her debut novel as Jaelyn Conlee in 1982, now continued writing as Fayrene Preston.
“Your breasts in my mouth as I suck them make me feel as though your life is flowing through my veins.”
"Copper Fire" is the story of Brianna and Sloan. When Brianna Delaney is visiting Colorado with her twin Patrick, she comes across the brooding stranger Sloan, and as he stares at her across the bathing chamber, passion ignites and they share a searing kiss. Soon Patrick goes missing, and Brianna uses all her resources and strength searching for him, picking up strays like Kamanahna, Phineas and Henrietta on the way- and accepting her growing attraction to Sloan while he fights it. Intense book filled with occasional humor and lust. I loved how kind both Patrick and Brianna were, the oddballs scattered throughout the book, the attraction between the leads and the OTT boob obsession, especially the hero's obsession with the them became a little hilarious at a point. There is a second story between Wes, Sloan's nemesis and Anna but that will be detailed in the next book I guess.. My only complaint was the abrupt ending and cliffhanger, because the book ended out of nowhere with literally nothing resolved. I know there's a second part to all three of these books- but those had a mild cliffy but this was a BIG one. Safe 3.5/5
-The love scenes were unique for sure. The hero has the ability to suck the energy out of you through your nipples. I lol'd out loud at that. -There were traitorous bodies, to a degree. -The novel ended on a cliff-hanger. I might have to get my hands on the next one. -The heroine, Brianne, was actually okay for me. I like spitfires who aren't completely idiotic, imho. -The hero was a knock-off Rhett (from Gone with the Wind) named Sloan. -This was a quick read once I really got into this, though there were several plot lines that were never really finished in this one. It might get covered in the next book after this one. The kidnapping plot device of Brianne's brother ended disappointedly, and was never really given the proper denouement. -Cover Snark: I would say this book took place in the 19th century, but the heroine is wearing 80's blue eyeshadow. I'm not an expert on makeup during the 19th century, but I don't think that was accurate. -Brianne is also a redhead, I heart redheads. :D -This one was actually light-hearted and trying to be funny; sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't.
Years and years ago, Sloan Lassiter's brother died because Wes McCord lied to them about the location of a watering hole. Since then, Sloan has been practically dead inside. Now though, he heads to Chango, CO to find Wes and finally enact his revenge. He does not expect to encounter Brianne Delaney, who fascinates him with her laughter and plain-speaking and kind heart. He instantly knows, innocence or not, he wants her in his bed. Brianne though can see the coldness inside Sloan and is wary of him. But when her twin brother Patrick goes missing, she ends up needing his help. She makes a bargain that, if Sloan finds Patrick, she'll give him her virginity, but even before he does, she needs to give him shows of good faith (makeout sessions). Sloan finds Patrick but doesn't tell Brianne, since he's enjoying the foreplay and doesn't want it to end. Brianne, in the meantime, is falling in love with Sloan and is doing her best to stop him from going through with his revenge, fearing he'll get hurt. Well, he does, and it's Brianne to the rescue, but how will they stay alive when Wes and his thugs are after them?
So this was kind of a significant cliffhanger and I didn't care for that. Yes, Sloan finally admits he loves Brianne, but he doesn't admit that he's been lying to her about Patrick and letting her worry and nothing is really resolved with Wes. And also, Sloan is still a bit cold and Brianne doesn't really know him well, so this still feels incomplete. Yes, I know this comes in parts, but to reiterate another reviewer, this feels like a bigger cliffhanger than the other 2 in this series. I did like Brianne, even though she collects strays (probably my least favorite heroine trait, but it doesn't seem so bad here because she befriends them instead of nurturing them). I didn't really understand why she fell in love with Sloan (except for confusion because of lust) because he was kind of an ass. I didn't like him much. And yet the two of them together have just enough angst and unresolved and resolved sexual tension to keep me interested. And also knowing how Sloan will get his revenge against Wes is pretty interesting since Wes seems to be even more of an asshole than Sloan. And he's the hero of the next book! Yikes! It'll be interesting to see how he gets redeemed.
Also, maybe trigger warning: this gets a bit incestuous at the beginning as the woman that Sloan believes to be his half-sister pretty much seduces him while he's drunk and he comes THIS close to actually having sex with her. Hands were in all kinds of wrong places for two people that closely related. Turns out she's not really his half-sister, but neither of them knew that... Yuck.
