Since the Banishment, Rena has become the Drakan Enforcer, cleaning up the messes her dragon brethren make in order to keep their presence in the human world hidden.
When a group of rogue Drakan begins killing dragons who refuse to join the army of the Destroyer the dragon they believe will become their true king Rena has no choice but to take action.
Special Agent Noah Ford appears, seemingly out of nowhere, to offer his assistance and protection. Protection, from a human? Hell, no. But something about him draws her hypnotically, erotically close. Some secret he refuses to reveal.
Every clue Rena uncovers indicates Julian, leader of one of the five clans, is the Destroyer. But when she confronts Julian, the blue mating fire a phenomenon that hasn t been seen since the Banishment engulfs them both.
Burning with need for two very different men, Rena must choose to kill the one destined to be her mate. Or see her people s dreams of home turned to a pile of ashes.
Warning: This novel contains high-speed car chases, crackling thighs, magic duels, naughty words, and sex on ceilings, tables, high in a tower, in the shower and you get the drift.
Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).
Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.
Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.
Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.
I am most excited about Ms. Hart’s unique world of Dragons. It is unlike any dragon books I have read before. It is not of magic and fairytales, but a dark world full of power, danger, and violence. These dragons’ constant battle for power and survival making the plot full of non-stop action and drama. I was totally and utterly enthralled while reading this book.
The Drakan are a race of dragons that were banished to earth from their realm eleven thousand years ago. Five Clans remain in this world and since then, and it is prophesized that there will be one dragon that will be King and will rule their world back to greatness. Unfortunately, it is also in that prophecy that the “Destroyer” has the power to wipe off humanity and their race from existence.
Rena as the “Enforcer” is responsible to find this “destroyer” and pretty much the race’s survival is on her shoulders. Talk about pressure, right? No, she is not a damsel in distress; in fact, Rena is actually a very strong heroine physically and mentally. Despite the abuse from her peers and family, she will prove her worth in a big way. The blurb mentioned of a love triangle between Noah Ford, an FBI agent and Julian, one of the Arcos(leader) of the dragon clans. Both men are definitely sexy, but I found myself drawn to Julian who has a great deal of power over his clan. This book focused on Rena and Julian’s relationship and their connection to the dragon politics. I have to say it’s all very intriguing. And damn, Rena and Julian are pretty damn hot together. I’m not quite sure how Ms. Hart will fit in a third party in their relationship, but there seems to be a promise of some angst. Noah, our sexy FBI, did not have much playing time , but from how this book ended, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him.
The world building is wonderfully done, without in any anyway overwhelming me as a reader. I do admit that I had to pay attention to the family/clan dynamics and most importantly, the prophecies. The characters roles in this world really comes from a long line of blood ties and their powers are pertinent to how pure they are. I love that this world is not just limited to one clan but five. It gives you an impression of how big Ms. Hart’s dragon world is. And I assure you, it’s world you won’t want to miss. Breath of Fire is an impressive start to this series!

While this book does not end on a "cliff hanger", per say - it does leave a lot of questions unanswered. Once again, I have caught myself deeply interested in characters and story that are so well written that I'm incredibly disappointed that I have to wait for #2. Truly worth it, though.
“The Destroyer is a great pretender. His power is to be feared. He is seduction incarnate, and all will follow him into battle without knowing the truth. He will destroy humanity, so the Drakan will starve and be forced to feed on the weakest of our own race. If the Destroyer comes to power, then this shall come to pass.”
Rena Drake had no choice to become an enforcer of her kind. She is a Drakan. She cleans up the mess her dragon brethren make to help keep their kind hidden from the humans. When a rogue Drakan begins killings their own, Rena has little choice in doing what needs to be done, even if it means going into another clans territory, which could cost her her life. Then her world is rocked when her aunt tells her of the prophecy. She is the one who needs to find the Destroyer and defeat him. In the end her choices will affect everyone.
“There will be a child born of two descendants, whose power is greater than all who have come before him. A child to rule all, to make peace with the gods as his forefathers failed to do, and return us to our homeland.” “But there are two sides to every prophecy, Rena- the light and the dark. One side gives hope, but the other delivers despair.”
What Rena wasn’t expecting was Special Agent Noah Ford to come into her life. There is no denying the chemistry between them but Rena is confused as to why her powers don’t work on him. He seems to know an awful lot about her for someone who is careful to keep her existence scarce. When he offers to assist her and protect her she begins to realize there is more to him than meets the eye. The pull they feel towards each other makes no sense to her but Noah seems to understand and he refuses to let her in on his secret.
“No matter what you’re feeling right now or what happens in the future I want you to know how much I want you. I’ve dreamed of you,” he said, running his finger down the slope of my cheek. “and from now on you’re mine.” “Excuse me?” I said, ire raise at his presumptuousness. “I don’t belong to anyone but myself.” “Not anymore. And just as you belong to me, I belong to you as well. Your body burns for me just as mine burns for you. I know it goes against every part of your nature, but I want nothing more than to protect you. And to love you.”
Unfortunately for Rena, all clues are pointing to Julian as the possible Destroyer. Julian is the very powerful leader of the Belgae clan. When she meets up with him, her inner dragon goes berserk with want and need. When they kiss, the blue mating fire engulfs them. The thing is the blue mating fire is a phenomenon that hasn’t been seen since their races banishment. She is shocked that her enemy is destined to be her mate and she knows her clan would never approve of this. But her dragon craves him, needs him and she has these feelings she cannot fight, try as she may. *insert smoking hot sex on the ceiling*
“I’ll be forever grateful to the gods for choosing you for my lifemate, but love has no place in the midst of battle. I’m sorry that you have been burdened with such an emotion towards me.”
Rena is torn between her need to two very different men and she must choose either watch her people’s dream of returning home turn to ask or kill the one destined to be her mate.
“I’ll give you the time you need to get things straightened out with your clan. But if you take too long I will come after you. You are my lifemate. We belong together. And I will not live without you.”
Liliana Hart created such beautiful, magical creatures with the dragons disguised as humans. The chemistry the characters have with each other. Poor Rena was caught in the middles of two gorgeous but very different men. Although she was never able to fully explore things with Noah, there is something there between them. The sex scenes with Julian and Rena WOW, be sure to have a fire extinguisher ready.
I loved that this had dragons in it. I have to admit, I am used to reading about witches, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, angels and fairies and the dragons were a breath of fresh air for me. I look forward to seeing where Rena ends up.
A fantastic story with heartache, suspense, romance and the shock factor a wonderful read!
Received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Interesting story, very well done. The heroine is the Enforcer for dragon-kind, but she's only allowed to police her own clan due to the quarrelsome nature of the Drakàn. When the story begins, it seems as if it might be a police-procedural type story, only with dragons, but it veers quickly into a tale of prophecy and fated ... fate. I guess? War with the gods. Kind of. There is definitely a heroine. The story is told from her first-person POV. The hero is a bit more problematic. She has a fated lifemate, but she swings from being furious enough at him to split him in two, to being madly in love. That part annoyed me some, because she kept forgiving him before I was ready for her to do it. It was a much better read than I expected from the cover copy. Very well written. I liked it, much more than I expected to. Good stuff.
I can honestly say there aren't books from Liliana that I haven't enjoyed reading so when she wrote this story in my favorite genre I was all sorts of excited! I figured this wouldn't be a standalone and I hate starting a book if you are just going to end up waiting for the next one to come out, well I finally gave up waiting for the next installment and read the book, of course I enjoyed it and as I figured there should be another book or two to the up the story but it looks like they won't be forth coming. So I'm left saying, what happened to the rest of Rena's and Julian's story Ms. Hart?!
Been waiting for the next installment but to no avail. Guess there won't be, but i would really love to see Rena's love triangle with Noah although am totally gunning for Julian. I loved everything about this book. It was wonderfully written and so rich. I couldn't put it down.
A completely new view of dragons, different from other stories I've read. This book drew me in like Iwas part of it. Iwnt to know more about Rena &Noah
I wasn't into Rena & Julien at all - he was so controlling and rude & aggressive, clearly their attraction was purely physical. I would have much preferred Noah, they had the same physical attraction and she seemed more at ease with him and he respected her. Relationships aside the world and magic were awesome. I would read the next installment if there is going to be one, but it's been seven years so I'm assuming no. Which sucks as I was looking forward to some steamy Noah and Rena scenes.
After having read more than my fair share of paranormal romance stories about werewolves, vampires, and angels, the idea of a story centered around dragons had me intrigued. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Liliana Hart’s Drakan were far more mysterious, dark, and sexy than I expected. In an unforgiving and violent world like theirs, only the strong and determined survive, and emotions are a weakness that few can afford to feel.
Rena was essentially stuck with her life. Stuck between her dragon and human sides, stuck living with a father who hates her, stuck suffering from his wrath, and stuck with powerful gifts of the mind but lacking other abilities that she craves. Unlike most of her kind, she doesn’t want to forget about her human side, and her role as an Enforcer just makes her stand out even more. She just doesn’t seem to fit in anywhere, and even though she has this darker side that calls to her, there’s a part of her that has a huge heart and wants desperately to be loved. She was a misfit in every way, and in every way the perfect heroine!
I couldn’t transform into a dragon, but just because I couldn’t make the change on the outside didn’t mean my dragon wasn’t inside me. ~Rena, Loc 1177
Rena’s Drakan, banished to Earth when their Realm was destroyed eleven thousand years ago, believed wholeheartedly in the Prophecy. It was their chance of restoring their Realm, but it was also a warning of what could happen if the one called the Destroyer is not stopped. As Rena found herself right in the middle of the fight to find and put an end to the one who would become the Destroyer, she also found herself in the arms of Julian, the mouthwatering leader of the Belgian clan of Drakon who she couldn’t seem to stay away from. He was powerful, unrelenting, and lusting after Rena like nobody’s business!! Julian was the epitome of the alpha male with his cocky refusals to Rena pushing him away, and the passion between these two was HOT!! I thought the whole “sex on the ceiling” warning was just a joke, but it’s not…and I’m so glad because WOW! Rena tried hard to resist Julian’s temptations, but between that crazy blue mating fire engulfing them and her human side falling for him, she was in for a struggle. And the whole time I was thinking “why are you bothering to fight it??!!” because well, he’s just that delish!!
“You lie.” His voice whispered across my skin. “Your resistance wears thin.” He ran his hand over the swell of my breast, and it sent shivers down my spine. ~ Julian Loc 2108
I didn’t want to hurt Julian, and my mind didn’t want to love him. My body, on the other hand, needed his flesh between my teeth and thighs more than I needed to breathe. ~Rena, Loc 2345
The gruesome violence that is essentially the way of life for the Drakan definitely warred with Rena’s good side. Not knowing much about her mother, it’s as if half of her is hidden even from herself. As this secret side of her started to reveal itself, it became clear that she’s going to be one hell of a force to be reckoned with. And she’s going to need to be, because Liliana Hart didn’t hold anything back and it’s clear this is going to be a very bumpy ride!
As far as the love triangle goes, I’m not sure what I think yet. To be honest, Noah’s character wasn’t around much and didn’t leave much of an impression with me. He seems almost inconsequential to the story in this first book, and I really loved where things had the potential of going with Julian. With an ending that leaves you wondering what the rather precarious future holds, it remains to be seen if this will be Noah’s chance to make his mark. I’m in for the long haul with this series either way, but in the meantime I know whose team I’m on!! The Rena Drake series gets an absolute thumbs up from me, and I look forward to more from Liliana Hart!
Love me some dragons and I adore Liliana Hart's books so it was a no brainer choosing this one. I just knew that she would treat her dragon world with respect making her dragons more than just dragon-shaped humans and making them the lethal predators they really are. And when I clicked onto the last page, I can say that she really delivered. The dragon world, the intriguing and scorching hot characters, the twisty plot? All good.
Rena Drake is a Drakan Enforcer. Her job is to keep the humans from learning that they share their world with some big, bad predators. Lately, her job has gotten even more difficult because someone new has decided to slaughter the humans and leave the bodies lying around for all to see. Rena's life is not easy with a father who hates her because she is like her late mother and too human. She lacks several of the traits that would make her a dragon and she constantly feels the tug o war between her two natures. Shortly after she investigates and cleans up the last of many crime scenes which now is the killing of a dragon not a human, she is approached by enigmatic FBI agent, Noah Ford, who knows more about what she is doing than he should and wants to team up. He also wants to start something up of a more personal nature that she warily agrees to, but also wants- dragons are lusty creatures afterall.
Then she learns of the prophesies that point to a certain powerful drakan ancient as the suspect in the killings who she must now investigate. It is very dangerous to approach Julien, leader of his clan, about the possibility that he's her killer and the one seeking to destroy the clans. Things get complicated when she discovers that Julien is her mate placing some hard choices before her.
I was drawn in from the get go when Rena's voice tells the story. She's an 'it is what it is' type of girl who accepts her situation and makes the most of things. And yet, while she is tough because of being brought up in such a home with her brutal father, she has softer feelings and dreams of finding love. Rena is confronted by two different males who want her. One is a certain FBI agent who has plenty of secrets while knowing all of hers and the other is the most powerful dragon in the world who claims her as mate while he might also be the Destroyer of her race. The love triangle angle isn't a huge deal in this book because for the most part she is with Julien in passion and in conflict. Oh Julien! He is one dangerously hot alpha dragon who doesn't get the concept of love though the way he is with Rena tells me there's hope for him.
Speaking of conflict, I love that feeling this book gives of nobody being necessarily what or who they say they are. It's all told from Rena's perspective and she is a good observer so she knows not to trust lightly, but she still has no idea what all is going on under the surface with people. Even Noah, Julien and her own family hides stuff from her. The plot was so tricksy that the big ending was almost a complete surprise. Now, I was a bit disappointed about the end leaving things the way it did, but I assume the next book will take care of that.
So if you enjoy a spicy paranormal romance involving dragon shifters and other unique paranormals, give this one a look-see.
Well, with a phrase like “Burning with need for two very different men” in the synopsis – how could I NOT want to read this book. I LOVE a book filled with indecisiveness! Especially when it has to do with two very good looking men! What I love most about this book is that it was constant. Constant action, constant evolving and constant plot direction. I honestly didn’t find my mind wandering at all with this book – I was engrossed in it the entire time. It might seem just a tad slow to you AT FIRST – but honestly; it’s just the introduction of everyone && it seriously picks up after that.. Page Turner!
Like most interesting books, our lovely Rena is sort of an outcast. Apparently; this is something that can be blamed on her mother. You will totally learn why when you read this one! (Yea – I’m not spoiling ANYTHING for you! This is def a MUST read, so I am giving nothing away!) What I love most about Rena? Despite being who and what she is – she has a softer side. A side that would be referred to as her “human side” & a side that some would rather she hide away completely. I 100% think it makes her a better person! It shows a more REAL side of her and gives just a touch more insight to the kind of person that she is.
So.. unable to ignore her calling, she decides to see what’s up with all these crazy rogue Drakan. Of course, things can’t just be simple for her and here she is… caught in the middle of TWO lovely male specimen! I LOVE the fact that this triangle is full of danger and mystery – it makes it that much more intriguing :) Our two lovely males are named Noah and Julian.. Yeah; they have THOSE kinda names! In all honesty, I STILL have a hard time choosing between the two, so I can see why Rena has her work cut out for her!
I will point out that there are some steamy scenes in here. & not your typical scenes either. Seriously. You must read this book. Not just for the amazingly sexy scenes, or the drool worthy males – but because the characters are just awesome. I feel like I could have said way more in this one, but I honestly don’t want to get anything away! & since the pages turned THAT fast for me – I feel that one little slip will give away too much away. So I will end this with GO AND READ BREATH OF FIRE! I can’t wait for the next bo
I was drawn into reading Breath of Fire because of the beautiful cover, I love the cover, the woman, everything about it really fits the novel. It wasn't very expensive so I bought it without second thoughts. I definitely didn't regret it, Breath of Fire was an awesome book!
Reading the first chapters, I had the feeling of reading a typical urban fantasy novel. There was this hard-boiled investigator (only that she's a supernatural creature) and there were murders. Hart tells us a lot about her world and the Drakán race in those first chapters. It might have had a tendency towards infodumping if it hadn't been so interesting. Really, I love her world-building. The special abilities, the non-human approach to life, everything that is so typical of the Drakán, it was a great concept and I enjoyed it a lot. Only the part with the different realms was a bit confusing, or not explained enough.
Then love interest #1 is introduced: Noah. I loved him, was really into him. It sounded like insta-love, at least for him, but then he said that he'd known her for a long time already. But unfortunately, even though Noah was my absolute favorite, his time was fairly short in the book. Soon, we meet love interest #2: Julian. And it is Julian's and Rena's relationship that the book actually focuses on.
I was into Rena from the beginning on. She had this tough feeling, despite her extremely sad background of being an outsider both in her society and her family, being hated for her destination as an Enforcer. I could totally relate. But her instant attraction to Julian just pissed me off because he's not a likeable character at all. I got that this was due to them being destined mates and I was glad that it pissed Rena off almost as much. In the end, I was missing a bit of that kick-ass law woman from the beginning.
Liliana Hart wrote a wonderful first book in this exciting new series. It has a great atmosphere which is created by an experienced writer. I'm having high hopes for my darling Noah in the second book. I'm sure he and Rena will have more time together and I will love that book even more for it.
Who is Noah? What is meaning of dream with tatoo's on both sides of the body? These are a few of my lingering questions!!!
Rena is an Enforcer for The Drakan and much, much more. More even than she knows. Someone is taking the Drakan people and killing them then leaving them in piles of ashes. Rena needs to find the Destroyer before it is too late.
Julian Is the Arcos of the Belgian clan considered the strongest of the clans. Is he the Destroyer, Rena must travel to Belgium to find out. This is where the story really ramps up!!!
This is not my usual kind of book, dragons, realms, Drakans, etc and if it hadn't been written by Lilianna Hart I would not have ven picked it up. AND I would have missed the BEST stoy I have read in a while. I could not pu this book down once I started it, I did not want to miss a thing. Not to mention I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation.
It was wonderful, better than wonderful, and was so well written that I felt like I was part of the story. I am not going to tell you about the story because I do not to give anything away!!! You MUST read this book, you do NOT want to miss the experience of a life time.
Now I have to wait for the next book, grrrrr. BUT this a book that even after you have finished you are still thinking about it - going oh that is what that means, this is why it happened, where is this going from here , why did it happen and how will it be resolved. So many questions, so many things to think about. Just what a book should provide, once I am don I still what to think about what has happened and you do with this book.
I will be re-reading this book - SOON! Get it, it will take your breath away and open up a whole new world!!!
Okay I must admit Breathe of Fire was far outside the realm of my normal read. I mean I don't tend to read books of this nature since we were dealing with alternate Realms and Drakan's which in short are dragons that live on Earth disguised as humans.
So yes it's outside of my normal read and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the book which so happens to be the first book in this series and now I'm itching for the second book, guess I'm hooked.
Rena Drake is part of Drakan clan but her powers as an Enforcer someone who can read minds far supersedes most in her clan but little does Rena know she also has powers that far surpass others she just needs the right ummm stimulation ;) to unleash those powers.
We meet FBI agent Noah Ford who seems to have some types of powers as Rena can't read his mind as she can others and they have an instant "attraction" to one another ~ I'm hoping the second book delves further into this attraction and we find out exactly WHO Noah is or maybe WHAT he is.
See in this book we are introduced to Rena's life mate the one whose mere whisper of words and touch promise erotic moments that one can only wish to experience in their life but is this truly her life mate or is there really another option out there.
This book is filled with war amongst an unknown evil that once revealed I never saw coming. It's filled with some hot roll's in the sheet and it filled me with a desire to want MORE so guess I have a new series to read. If you enjoy a paranormal type read with some steamy love scenes, suspense, and a mystery thrown in for good measure then I highly recommend you grab Breathe of Fire and give a chance! I'm happy I did cause I really ended up enjoying it and it did grab me from the moment I started reading it
I totally like the idea about a complete series about dragons... Rena was a great character... totally loved her... But my one and only issue with this book is the love triangle! It so was not needed...and it wasn't even fleshed out well.
Ok... so you go Noah... who we meet first... he all mysterious and secretive, about who he is besides a FBI agent... Rena and Noah hit it off, as if they are mates or something... They start getting down and dirty, then Rena and Noah's right side starts burning... B/C Rena doesn't understand what is happening... Noah stops and that is pretty much where Rena and Noah relationship is paused..
Now Rena, the dragon enforcer for her clan, get sent to Bulgaria and there she meets her life mate (dragon's true mate) Julian.. Ok.. Julian was awesome... totally liked his dominating personality.. Rena can't help but fall for him, because well he is her true mate... TRUE DRAGON MATE>>>>!!!
The entire book the big mystery is who is Rena's mother... So they have the battle, we find out who the Destroyer is... (Which is gonna be a shocker...there, actually a double shocker!) Then after the big battle... we finally learn who Rena's mother is...
After finding out who Rena's mother is... we in a sense learn about Noah...but here is the thing... is Noah Rena's other mate? Who knows... Seriously...this was a great story.. with great, great smexing...but the who love triangle is just eh!
Noah is missing half of the book, so who should she choose... who knows b/c we really don't known much about Noah as of yet... but we know she has already mated with Julian.. SO... IDK>..
Don't let the triangle steer you away from an awesome Dragon Story! I can't wait till book 2 comes out... Instant Download!
People who have dragon ancestry can interbreed with us and produce children who are more or less gifted with dragonish behaviours. As an Enforcer, gaining the role when her aunt flew off with her hoard, Rena Drake has seen the best and the worst of her kind. Ancient dragons eat human flesh, newer ones just meat. Now a group of renegade Draken is going around killing humans. Rena's job is to stop them from endangering her community.
BREATH OF FIRE is required to make a Draken's body burn up. A female Draken was killed, and Rena has enough on her plate when an FBI agent shows up. Noah Ford is trying to understand the rash of killings. Rena is thought to be a psychic... she can erase memories. There is a lot of violence in this tale and Alasdair, clan ruler and Rena's father, is a source of some of it. Each clan is suspicious of the others and some Draken are using that to their advantage.
My usual quibble with urban fantasy - that it starts off as adventure and quickly becomes hierarchies and who gives orders to whom - is realised again as Rena hears a lot of Draken history and gets ordered around. This slows down the adventure. Every time we meet another dragon things get crashed around and people get broken. Well, that's what you have to expect of dragons. We see that Draken like the colours red and gold; not all can take dragon shape; and they take longer to grow up than humans. Then Rena gets a lifemate, Julian, and her inner dragon begins to take over, including shapechanging, hoarding and mating behaviours. We wonder why Noah Ford was introduced as he's not in the picture now.
Liliana Hart has written a lengthy absorbing fantasy read, with plenty of action - not all of it pleasant.
Rena is the daughter of the Archos of the American Drakan Clan and its Enforcer. She has never been able to shift into her dragon, but has the ability to control all but the strongest minds.
Julian is the Archos or leader of the Belgian Drakan. He's possibly the most powerful of all the Drakan. He is handsome and charismatic.
Noah is an FBI agent in the paranormal division. He is more than what he seems but will not share that information with Rena.
All Drakan are in danger of extinction. The Destroyer of the ancient prophecy has been making Drakan disappear. He is also killing some, drawing the attention of Rena Drake, Enforcer of the American Drakan. She needs information and help from the other clans, so she travels to Belgium to meet with the most powerful Drakan of them. Julian is all rumor reports and is also her fated mate.
This novel looks to be the start of a great series. Rena and Julian’s roller coaster relationship has many problems but the two are drawn to each other like magnets. Julian’s inability to admit his love for Rena is a huge problem as is her attraction to Noah who appeals to her non-Drakan side. The plot is full of action, treachery, sensual love senses, and twisted familial ties. It is impossible to put this book down, and I lost a lot of sleep because I could not put it down until the last page. Unfortunately, now I have to wait to find out what happens next. I will wait impatiently for the next installment.
This is an original review from http:bookedandloaded.com - I received this title directly from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Breath of Fire is a new Urban Fantasy by Liliana Hart. Hart has simply enchanted me with Breath of Fire. Not only was this story sexy and bold – it was also mysterious and original. Many times we know (or at least I do) what the conclusion of the tale will hold. I am just waiting for the author to tell us the story of how it happens. Breath of Fire holds you at every page and makes you rethink what the ending could hold with every flip of the page. I started to become so engrossed in the story telling I didn’t even think about what the ending could be…I just hoped it wasn’t coming soon.
Hart has taken world building to a glorious new level and ends with shocker. Rena Drake is a great character. She is true and bold – with a conflict boiling within herself she is just beginning to grasp. The only downside is … I WANT MORE! I think any Urban Fantasy fan will love Breath of Fire – especially if you like a little extra spice!
Several times during reading "Breath of Fire" I came close to throwing it at the wall and giving up. The twist at the end was one of its few redeeming features.
The main character is supposedly a strong, kickass female. She has a job that comes with a huge amount of responsibility and is rather old and worldly wise. She has a brief almost-fling with a character in the first few chapters after which he is pretty much a minor character and that is putting it kindly. I saw no real love triangle at all in this book, it was just another cookie cutter "ooo we're mated so I can forgive you anything even when you are being a complete asshat" variety of paranormal love story.
The dragon idea, while not exactly new in the genre, added a bit more flavour than the standard lycan books.
If you've ran out of paranormal romances and are looking for a novel that will give you a greater appreciation of the better written books in the genre then I'd suggest reading "Breath of fire"
I absolutely loved this!! Not your normal run of the mill paranormal story with vampires and the like. This was Dragons or the species name are Draken. They were banished to live in the mortal realm. They live in human form and over centuries their pure Draken blood has been diluted through offspring with human mates. There a 5 difference clans and Rena is her clan's enforcer who makes sure they stay hidden from humans by cleaning up mishaps and deaths. She is also the clan leaders daughter although he despises her. The story starts with Rena tracking down rogue Draken who have been killing and kidnapping humans and their own kind. The journey it takes her on is fantastic! Such a joy to read a unique story!! The only downside for me is I don't think there are any more in this series. It was published in 2013 by the looks of it. It really is a shame. Still even though the end leaves it open for more it is a complete story and I highly recommend reading it!! Top marks!! 5/5
I really enjoyed this book. I met the author at RWA Nationals and had never read her work before. The first few chapters were well written with lots of details, but MAN! Somewhere around Chapter 3 I got sucked in deep. The scenes with Julian were fan-freakin'-tastic and I was constantly wondering what the heck was up with Noah. Liliana really does a great job of keeping a constant thread of tension throughout, building an amazing world and giving us rich characters. (Not to mention a OMG surprise or two at the end.)
I love, love, love finding new authors! Liliana Hart is one I'll definitely try more of.
The first part of the book was a bit slow, but then it picks up quickly. However, this first part is important for future plots. The author creates interesting characters and I got pulled in wanting to know what was going to happen to them. Then ending has two unexpected plot twists. This was a decent start to what could be a great series. I look forward to the second book in this series and I expect the it to be much better than the first.
I can't really find anything negative to say about this book. The writing was good, the characters were interesting, there was good foreshadowing and excellent plot twists, and the love scenes were pretty hot. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because I wanted more Noah and I didn't get him. I hope to see lots of Noah in the next one, which I will definitely be waiting for.
It's a VERY long while since a book held me captive like this. I was literally shouting at the characters as though they were right in front of me, had me looking like I belonged in the loony bin LOL... What a fantastic read.
I revised my initial 5 star review to only 3 after years passed and the author determined she would not finish this series (duet?). There is not a finish to the story and although it was very good it is not complete enough to warrant a strong recommendation on its own.
I love the feel of the book. Everything was raw, about strength, dominance - everything that's expected for a tale of a race of dragons. The twist at the end is surprising too! Overall, this was a great read!
