Shadow Play has a lot of cool haiku's in it. They all bring the story a long with them and give you a nice image in your head of what he is imaging and listening too. This book use a lot of its surroundings to keep you engaged while reading. I was say it would be a nice book to have in the classroom but might not be as popular to the kids, unless they light haiku's and poems.
The book talks about things at night that happens outside the child's room at night in the story. The things happening outside the window is the blaze of winter stars, midnight sirens, and a train whistle. The author uses good rhyming techniques, large text, and colorful pictures. I would give this book to Kindergarteners to show the wonders of the night.
This book would be an amazing book to introduce children to the haiku version of poetry. This story has beautiful illustrations and amazing use of poetry. Definitely for older kids though, where it can be kind of hard to follow along at times.
interesting style to write a book, in the form of a haiku. Seemed a bit confusing but liked how it was about all the different shadows in the house and around the boy.
This book is made up of a collection of haikus related to things that take place during the night. This would be a good book to help children learn about haikus. The illustrations are great.
I really enjoyed this book of short stories. There were 20 different short stories that give small life lessons with different animal characters. The illustrations are very detailed and colorful, something children would love to point out what's happening in different pictures. I think it really depends on the kid for the stories, some might really enjoy some while others may find those same stories boring. The illustrations really reminded me of the "Frog and Toad" series, which I recently found out that both are written by the same author. I would include this book in a higher grade class library, I think this would be interesting to read for some students!
