Chapters cover understanding a map, features, grid refs, contours; planning walks carefully; taking bearings, walking with a compass; timing, pacing and other techniques; what to do when you get lost and in poor visibility or darkness; navigating abroad and GPS and other digital technology. Packed with useful practical exercises and examples. Written by an experienced navigation trainer.

The mapping part is great but the GPS and technology side is completely dated. GPS in particular is dismissed almost entirely and references to CD maps look silly given in particular the UK OS map subscriptions and route planning.
I would not buy this edition but wait for a new one or buy something more current.
