Smart-Ass Crossing Zone. America's most outrageous alternative weekly has a to tell you what's hot and what's snot in the city of Seattle. Part guidebook, part rant, The Stranger Guide to Seattle dishes about all the good places to go and things to do for Seattle's hip set. Whether you're into the lowbrow (Coors-fueled bowling, low stakes gambling, punk rock karaoke, down and dirty thrifting) or the highbrow (chi-chi restaurants, sipping highballs, readings, film, and art galleries), this book has secrets to reveal. Also 24-hour joints, sex, independent stores, skateboarding, and scads more!
Despite the Stranger's vitality, I own this only because of Charles Mudede's writing. It's outdated - closed restaurants, dated humor - with the melancholy that pre-gentrification rotten proletariat Seattle was just better than this rotten bourgeoise Seattle.
i read this book years before i moved to Seattle, and it's a little outdated now. i'd say about half of the bars and restaurants they reviewed are currently out of business. i would love it if the Stranger (the local free newspaper), would put out an updated version of this. the problem with Seattle is there seems to be a new slew of places opening daily, with just as many closing. hard to keep on top of it.
