I think this is the first volume that features art by Spaz, my favourite artist from the Sonic comics. It's also, as I mentioned in my last review, a massive turning point for the series. A couple of the issues are still pure silliness, but there are the beginnings of some significant world building, as well as character and plot development. Of note is the story involving EVE, a robot that grows and learns and destroys Robotnik (who is back next issue, but this one takes the whole situation with a much more serious tone). There are also some side stories dealing with Princess Sally that start building her up as a smart, capable leader. I remember adoring her character as a child because she liked to read, went on missions like the boys, and was generally amazing. She's a princess, but without any focus on pretty dresses (she wears a vest and boots!), and her role comes with a lot of responsibility. Her side stories are setting her up for the first mini series from the Sonic line, dealing with her training some new recruits. Still not quite ready to push these up to three stars, but getting there!

This was a pretty important volume, featuring first appearances from Nicole and Geoffrey St John, as well as the return of Anti Sonic and the Night of 1000 Sonics Event. All in all, a pretty packed volume! The writing has certainly improved, and the stories are starting to become more important and cohesive. We're about halfway through The Early Years, and I definitely feel it.

Alright, these comics are slowly starting to tell actual stories. The characters are just beginning to show signs of becoming fleshed out. Mostly it's more of the same, but Ken Penders has clearly been given some freedom with the Princess Sally side stories and were getting hints of real storytelling and emoting coming through. Still helps to have a heavy dose of nostalgia, but things are picking up!

This book contains a collection of good stories. I like the "Night of 1000 Sonics" story section. This book is also interactive with readers.

Quotes:
"..by working together, the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts" ーPrincess Sally
"If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust?!" ーSonic

I think it is a really good book for several different reasons.1. Because it is funny,2.It has great pictures and it has alot of action, and 3. It has cool things like cyborgs a seret base and cool characters.I also like the series and to make sence you HAVE to start at the begining vol.0. I did not I read them in a diffrent order and it confused me a little but I only need to read vol.14,vol.6 and vol.7.
