The Battle for the Solar System #3

The Attribute of the Strong

Rate this book
The Pandoran War is nearing its end... and the Senate's Mistake have all but won.

In the seven years following on from the Pandoran's push beyond the Mitikas Empire, the allied forces of the Helios Confederation and Independent worlds have fought a bitter series of unwinnable battles, being pushed back further and further as the enemy war machine continued its unrelenting assault against all those that opposed it.

And now, leaving a galaxy in ruin behind them, the Pandorans have set their sights on Sol, in preparation to finally complete the Mission.

All seems lost.

But then, in the final forty-eight hours of the war, while journeying to Kethlan in one last desperate bid to track down the elusive Admiral Jason Zackaria and find a way to end the bloodshed, Simon Dodds makes a discovery that could herald a chance at victory, if only he can convince himself and everyone he loves that the battle is still worth fighting.

Overall, a small step back from the improvements of The Third Side, but still just as readable. With the war winding inexorably towards its bitter end, the Knights are once more sent on a mission to end the war. Victory will mean an end to the Pandoran threat forever; Failure will mean the end to everything. With the stakes this high, one can forgive the somewhat slower pace of this book by comparison to The Third Side. Where The Third Side had action and suspense coming out of its earholes, these come in smaller packages spread out across the book until the ultimate climax. Intersperesed within are flashes of the trauma and war weariness felt by all involved, and the sense of impending doom.

Once again, these books are more popcorn sci-fi, but are still enjoyable enough for any sci-fi buff; so long as you don't try and put too much thought into some of its niggling issues.

The third part of this story eventually ties up the loose end. An intriguing and and entertaining read which will bring out many emotions. You will feel the anguish of the characters as you are immersed in the storyline.

Not quite the can't put down book of the first two books in this trilogy, but you will feel the need to finish the story and will be happy you have. The conclusion ties up all the loose ends and won't leave you thinking what happened next.

It's not often I give a book a 5/5 rating but this book, along with the series is one of the best around in sci-fi. Excellent story driven world with lovable and hateable characters set in the worst case scenario imaginable. The book often shows you the meaning of fear, hopelessness and despair. A worthy read for action junkies and sci-fi nerds.

I really enjoyed the final installment in this series. I thought that the second book wasn't as good as the first so I opened this one with some trepidation. Once I got into the main part of the novel I remembered why I loved the first one so much. I just wanted to know what would happen, who would survive. I loved it.

Masterpiece

The author is capable of making you feel that you are actually in the battle locale. The good guys took body blows but remained true to the human spirit of fighting to the end. Over the first two books the characters grew on you so that when one passed in battle you felt as if you lost a friend. Read this series of books you will not regret it.

If - as I was - you're contemplating reading this, wondering if you should carry on after finishing the second (somewhat lacklustre) book in the series, I'd say that the answer is a definite yes. This is by far the best in the trilogy, and reaches a satisfying, gripping conclusion.

A Nightmare is a Dream

With the end of the human race looming ever closer,Dodds nightmare of being killed by the admiral burning in his mind, he fights to change it with the surprising twist. For this I thank the author for unique insight and talents. You will love the end???

This was definitely a case of a series that gets better with time.

this last instalment was great. Full of action, some romance, some loss and we finally get answers of where the invading army is coming from.

The end is a bit anti climatic but overall a fun read.
