Há muito tempo que não voltava a Elizabeth Adler e foi com imenso prazer que, quando, pessoas disponibilizaram este e-book, eu o descarreguei e... num dia de espera... tirei o e-book reader da mala e foi esta a escolha.
Li apenas um livro de Adler "Um casamento em Veneza" e adorei.
Não sei realmente porque nunca mais peguei em livros da autora, ou melhor até sei... vamos descobrindo outros autores, os gostos vão mudando e estamos sempre em mudanças... então Adler foi deixada para trás.
Creio que o retorno não poderia ter sido melhor.
Penso que este livro no entanto faz parte de uma série, mas que, não se nota em quase nada que o é.
A história é independente, apenas as personagens principais são as mesmas.
Neste livro, conhecemos então vários personagens todos com problemas e a irem de férias para esquecer esses mesmos problemas, acontece que, inesperadamente a casa que tinham alugado para férias... não estava nem um pouco preparada. Tudo degradado. Tudo velho e em mau estado.
Então, é aqui, nesta casa que não é o que se esperava que todos se conhecem ao mesmo tempo, pois a casa foi alugada para todos... ao mesmo tempo, no mesmo espaço e tempo.
Adler tem uma escrita muito envolvente e é de muito fácil leitura, tendo panos de fundo como homicídios, tentativas de rapto, roubo de arte, abandono de filhos e romance, não se perde o fio à meada e entretem-nos com todas estas teias.
Claro que o que mais gostei (e penso que quem lê este livro gostará e é atraído para), foram os miúdos. A relação que se criou entre eles... um, abandonado no hotel e que cria situações para se entreter e não pensar na sua situação, outra que, o pai a adora e lhe dá tudo e que... perdeu a mãe muito recentemente... juntos vão formar o par mais delicioso de detectives que já li recentemente.
Outra das coisas que mais adorei foi, claro, os dois cãezinhos. Uma que é toda "pipi" e outro que é do mais maluco e que não liga ao que lhe aconteceu, sendo um cão super descontraído.
Sim, estou a falar de cães....
O desenvolvimento da estória é muito bom e o final não podia ser outro.
Gostei e espero em breve voltar a esta autora que me proporciona sempre bons momentos.

Elizabeth Adler is a writer who specializes in romantic fiction and romantic mystery fiction with settings in exotic locations. Adler is an expert in describing a place so that it comes alive, and in There’s Something about St. Tropez, she writes a delicious send up of this luxurious tourist destination. The descriptions of food, wine, sunny beaches, and well-appointed hotels are so entrancing it almost doesn't matter what the story is about.
The story: Mac and Sunny, his fiancé plan a month long vacation, renting, Chez La Violette a beautifully appointed, chateau. Mac gets called away for some last minute shooting for his detective television series and Sunny travels on ahead. After a difficult journey, she finds the chateau, only to also find that another person is already there and claims to have rented the house too. Soon others arrive claiming to have rented the house as well and they quickly realize that all have been scammed. Mac arrives and the “misfits” as they are referred to for the rest of the story, find accommodations at the “Hotel des Reves,” and beg Mac to find out who scammed them without the assistance of the police.
Each character has their own troubles and soon they become Mac and Sunny’s troubles as well. Mac cannot stay away from any mystery, even on vacation, and Sunny laments that they will never find time alone together.
They do end up sneaking in time alone and these scenes of romance and sex are undeniably cringe-worthy. Sunny is too often described as “Sexy” which the narrator, Julie Briskman pronounces with exaggerated emphasis.
The many mysteries complicate the plot to the point where it becomes difficult to keep track of what’s what, but a sweet sub-plot featuring two kids, both abandoned by their mothers, keeps the story from becoming just a frustrating attempt at score-card keeping.
The narrator adopts regional accents for characters identified from certain areas, which helps to keep track of all the many personalities, but is a bit hammy.
I enjoyed this story, but I realize that those of you who can’t stand this genre would have many complaints. Also: if you cannot stand whiny “purse dogs” stay away. Sunny has a feisty Chihuahua that she spoils rotten.

O primeiro livro desta autora e adorei, todos os detalhes, pormenores, tudo me fez ficar presa a este livro. e o final? como eu gosto, surpreendente e deixa-nos com vontade de mais.

Note: for me, 5 stars is phenomenal (and 4 is loved it)
I closed this book and exclaimed "now that was a true beach read!" My husband commented that I've said that only once before about a summery beachy chic lit type read.
I loved this story of connection and relationships that arise from the randomness of life. I truly enjoyed the silliness of the misfits and their mysterious antics around St. Tropez! It tickled me pink and left me with that warm fuzzy I've-had-a-touch-too-much-sun feeling!

Apesar de não ter lido o primeiro livro da série Mac Reilly, "De Malibu, com Amor" e se não me tivessem chamado a atenção para tal passava-me completamente ao lado a série, consegui lê-lo perfeitamente, tendo a autora o cuidado de não estabelecer muitos paralelismos com o passado. Portanto, não me senti perdida.

This book is obviously set in St. Tropez, but it didn't give me the glamour vibe I expected. It is a mystery. It has some interesting characters. I finished it.

After finishing the second book I know this author is not going to be on my favorites list. These are very “ light mystery and romance”. They would make a nice clean read for someone looking for light adventure. Once again my favorite characters were the dogs.

Adorei este livro, muitas personagens, cada uma com os seus problemas e mistérios que fez deste livro um dos mais interessantes da autora.
5 pessoas que fogem para Saint Tropez, e que vão unir-se para tentarem descobrir e enfrentar os seus medos.Controem uma forte amizade nesta estranhas férias, que ira mudar as sua vidas.
Adorei também a amizade entrea as duas crianças do livro, Olivier e Little Laureen o pequeno Francês que foi abandonado no hotel pela sua mãe, e a pequena americana que perdeu a mãe e que veste sempre fatos de ballet, são encantadores e vão ajudar-se e aprender a serem novamente felizes.

DNF. I rarely do reviews, but this book was terrible. I listened to the audio book, and skipped from the second to the last disc to hear the end. It did not at all make me regret not listening to all of it. Convoluted plot lines. Stilted language. And then a male character called a woman he had just met "Baby." And she didn't even blink. What is this, 1965? Also, the narrator's constant mispronunciation of the French hotel drove me nuts.

Makes a breezy read, it's very Elizabeth Adler, if you like the genre, then it's perfect.
A bit too obvious for me, though, I've read better books written by her, but made for a nice, easy read anyway.

I read the first book with Mac & Sunny and just really enjoyed it so much so I got the other 3 in the series. This is the second one I read and it takes place in beautiful St Tropez on the Mediterranean Sea. They have rented a house on the Sea and when they get there, they find out 4 other people have rented it also. The house is a wreck and they move to a hotel. There is such a fun story line with solving a crime, solving a murder and two lonely children on the trail of a mystery. And a Ghost is in the mix. Fun read!

I just couldn’t get into the story to care. I gave up about 44% of the way though.
Nothing happened except a bunch of people got scammed by a fake vacation rental and they all had interesting/somewhat mysterious backgrounds but nothing to want me to finish.
Then add in a string of home invasions/thefts and a murder (which I assume will all be related to the scammed group) and it just doesn’t feel cohesive.
I’m out. Plus Sunny is an annoying woman and Mac is such an idiot of a man. This book doesn’t age well with the current climate.

Um romance leve com alguns mistérios e acção à mistura. As personagens são interessantes e criam empatia e cada uma tem os seus próprios problemas por resolver.
Lê-se bem mas não funcionou totalmente comigo. A primeira parte do livro não me cativou apesar de a apartir daí se tornar mais interessante.

Um grupo de desconhecidos encontra-se na mesma casa que foi alugada por todos em nome individual. Depressa chegam à conclusão de que foram burlados na casa de férias. Decidem alojar-se num hotel próximo e ficam amigos próximos rapidamente, iniciando assim uma investigação à burla que lhes acometeram. No final resolvem um caso de quadros roubados, escondidos na casa de férias la Violette.

I just couldn't get into this book. I listened to the audio version and I found myself zoning out. The only characters I got invested in were the kids as they seemed to have the most interesting story. I dont think I will read anymore of this series.

I really enjoyed it, was my first book to read by Elizabeth Adler. Kept me intrigued. Loved the characters, hope there is more written about them in books to come. Next on my list is the one I should have read first "One of those Malibu nights"

What a snore. I stumbled across this at the library days after my trip to the French Riviera so opted for this light summer read to feel like I was still there… but I could not wait for it to finally end. Not enough depth and quite boring

I read the first few chapters and couldn't get into it, so I skipped to the middle read a few chapters, then I just read the last chapter to see how it all turned out.

It was an okay book. Not entirely predictable but not one that keeps you super hooked, either. A good book for traveling or sitting on the beach.
