A very good book in general , and I'll explain why. Language of author is quite easy to understand - he seems to be a great explainer. What I liked the most were the dialogues with people from different industries , where they would present him the problem they faced( Physiologist wanted to get mathematical relationship between intensity of flashes of light and electrical signal in brain of cats, Engineer wanted to lower the % of salt after the primary treatment of oil) , and author, renowned mathematician, would always ask the question , that is on the cover of the book - " So what ?". Let's say , I give you that relationship. How will that proceed your work ? Or is it just for the sake of writing paper ? Lots of times , after this question was discussed , the formulation of the initial question would be changed , and some fundamental results would be achieved in the end. Dr. Xurgin was an excellent science communicator , and this book is a good introduction not only to different mathematical concepts , but to the way mathematicians think about the question - in more wide, more complex way than an ordinary person does. Recommended to read.
