The Dungeon…where lust hurts so good.

Kendall Hall has a successful restaurant in Manhattan and a budding career as a television chef, but despite her accomplishments, there’s still something missing—a satisfying love life. That changes when she becomes a member of The Dungeon, a sensual, sexy and stimulating club where a wide spectrum of BDSM fun is enjoyed. It’s at The Dungeon where she meets her sub, whom she delights in dominating, though Kendall keeps her identify well hidden.
Casino owner Magnus Richards is handsome, charismatic and a member of The Dungeon. He has no idea his Dominatrix is also his business partner, and with Magnus’ face concealed beneath a leather hood, his identity remains secret as well. As they work closely together to open a new restaurant, Kendall and Magnus begin to fall in love…until their BDSM identities are revealed, which could destroy any chance at happiness—professional and personal.

Why I Read this Book: The premise for The Dungeon got me. I enjoy reading about people being in compromising positions.

What I Liked: Kendall and Magnus were both strong leads who end up in a very interesting situation. For the most part, I liked both of the leads. I liked Kendall’s brazenness and I really liked that Magnus is a smart business man who worked his way up in the business. Though there was a time when I could have smacked Magnus for being such a hypocrite and egotistical idiot.

It was interesting to see both Kendall and Magnus switch back and forth between playing the role of the dominant and the role of the sub, both in the dungeon and in their professional and personal lives.

Sydnee, Kendall’s best friend, was a great secondary character and I would be interested in reading her book.

What I Didn’t Like: Never once was protection used or ever talked about between Kendall and Magnus. This is a BIG pet peeve of mine. It makes the characters careless and irresponsible. And speaking of their sexual relationship, Kendall gives Magnus her anal virginity with ease and no lube.

The way Kendall and Magnus went about in handling (or I should say the ‘lack of’ handling) their big conflict. Instead of talking it out with each other, they instead turned to their respective best friends, whom both “gave it to [Kendall and Magnus] straight”, and allowed their friends to do their groveling, and ultimately fix their relationship, for them. Kendall and Magnus left the fate of their relationship in the hands of their friends instead of handling it themselves, like actual adults do. This didn’t work for me.

Memorable Moment:

“There’s nothing like a good hard dick, pulsating in and out.” She closed her eyes as if reminiscing about her last sexual encounter. “And in and out.”

Sydnee nudged her. “Uh, Kendall, snap out of it. You’re not in your bedroom. You’re out in public.”

Overall Impression: Even though there were things that didn’t sit well with me, things that took away some of my reading enjoyment, The Dungeon was still a good, fun read.

Between her successful restaurant Lavender and her about to be televised cooking show chef Kendall Hall doesn’t have a spare moment for a personal life. A dry, arid spell to say the least. When someone recommends a place called The Dungeon Kendall is intrigued. Taking the plunge and going to the D/s private club is a real eye opener. Kendall discovers that she has raw Dominatrix skills to hone and enjoy.

Casino owner Magnus Richards is a dynamic, wealthy businessman with the world at his feet. He’s decided to open another establishment only this time he’d like to add an upscale restaurant to the casino. After interviewing several candidates Magnus asks Kendall to join the team. They work well together in business and taking the plunge they are even better in bed. Masterful and exciting Magnus is always in charge when passion overwhelms the couple. What would Kendall say however if she knew that Magnus has another side, one he indulges in with a membership to The Dungeon?

Playing games with masks, even as consenting adults can have repercussions. Kendall and Magnus are a perfect match. Unfortunately when the masks come off one night Magnus is unable to accept another way that they mesh, Kendall as a Dominatrix and Magnus as her submissive. It’s one thing to be submissive behind the mask, another to show yourself to the world, or the woman you’re falling in love with…

Simply put, The Dungeon sizzles. Exploring what a person is willing to display in public verses behind closed doors is the premise here. Kendall is definitely a strong personality and never lets go, whereas Magnus needs to let someone else take charge at times. Their budding relationship is in danger because he can’t handle Kendall knowing something he’s secretly ashamed of. The Dungeon is not by any means hard core, though D/s scenes between the lovers are shown. The tables are flipped in The Dungeon and this time it’s a she on top.

The Dungeon by Velvet is not part of a series but I can see more book in the future. I chose this book because it was interesting even to someone that prefers her erotica to be male dominated instead of female dominated.

Kendall Hall is a successful chef with her own restaurant and a TV series about to hit the air. She is on top of the world and looking to expand. The one thing missing is her love life. To get that on track she joins a BDSM Club called The Dungeon. There she learns to be a dominant. Kendall comes across as a control freak. It fits that she is a domme. It is also realistic that she keeps her identity hidden due to her increased fame.

Magnus Richards is a Casino owner looking for a restaurant to put inside his casino and after meeting Kendall finds she is a perfect fit. Magnus is a strong man. He comes across a good business man.

The chemistry between Magnus and Kendall is blistering hot. The sex scenes were intense. I loved that Magnus and Kendall switched dominate and submissive roles throughout the book. I was not fond of how overly harsh some of the scenes at the BDSM club were.

I found this book to be well written. The main and secondary characters were interesting. I was not fond of how Magnus and Kendall handled there relationship. It comes across as childish and unrealistic when they dragged their friends into it. Overall, this was an interesting read.

Trite. Written as a teenager who thinks this is what BDSM is. Do. Not. Buy. Yuck. Terrible. Characters and story sucked. Wish I could get my money back. Wish Ellora's cave still had the ability to create reviews. If so, I am sure I would not have gotten this book. I cannot imagine anyone liking it. Cringe.
