Everyone assumes that Joelie Baudelaire lives a charmed life. She has a generous benefactor in Warren Jardine, and a glamorous lifestyle in the exciting city of Las Vegas. Everyone is wrong.
When Warren is arrested, Joelie has the ability to escape the emotional jail he's held her captive in for two years. Her father's house should be her refuge, but it's another kind of prison altogether. All Joelie wants is a normal, peaceful life. Discovering that she is one of The World Elite, a genetically superior race, puts a whole new set of shackles on her life.
Her destiny is planned, and her future marriage is pre-arranged. While Joelie still remembers her childhood crush on the Elite, Sender Stelle, it isn't easy to accept a betrothal to a man she barely knows beyond his photograph.
Warren doesn't want to release his control over her. The World Elite would force her to fulfill her destined duty, and Sender has gone from resigned acceptance to benign co-operation with the powers that be.
Freedom is just out of reach. All Joelie must do is defy some of the most powerful people in the world, and survive.

This book is absolutely amazing! Great plot, awesome characters, ideal setting; what more is there to ask for? Very well written also. Great character development. You get to know enough about the characters that it doesn't take you away from the story. The plot itself is so beyond good, and the author just gives you the perfect setting and amazing characters to give you a great story. Which I might add, is far from over. *Some Spoilers*
I was hooked from the very first page. We have Joelie, who has just arrived in Washington from Las Vegas, to live with her father. Mind you, this is a twenty seven years old woman, who has problems that comes from breaking it off with a controlling ex. Her world is about to get a whole lot more stressful and downright depressing. Nevermind the fact that her father, a Sheriff no less, has assigned three of his best men on the job, to guard his daughter 24-7. Forget that they have to be with her at all times and have installed cameras around the premises, and insists upon her wearing a tracking device on her ankle. Don't worry, it's basically non existent.
Joelie is about to die from all of this when Sender, her childhood crush who mind you, is seven years older than her, walks into her father's house for his weekly manfest (grill, men, alcohol). It's instant, the impression. Sender, her father John, and Sender's father Wes know what is going on around them. All Joelie knows is that there's a feeling inside of her and it has something to do with Sender.
Diesel, one of her guards, watches the whole exchange. He's immediately jealous. Catches attitude with Joelie, so she goes to her room. Days go by and Joelie has Cabin Fever. As she has to have a guard everyday, Diesel will just have to take her somewhere so she can unwind. As she's making her plans, she gets a text from Sender asking to take her out. Her father really shouldn't have given her number to him. Before she can stop herself she agrees for tomorrow. Off to the bar with Diesel she goes. She sits near older men who chat about the murders and kidnapping that has been going on in the area and other close counties. One of them goes on and on about some World Elite beings out there, which is pretty funny to her. All eyes are on her from men in the bar. Diesel is fuming and to top it off, in walks Sender. A man runs in covered in blood and screaming for help. Diesel tells her to stay put and goes with the man. Sender asks her to go with him to a safe location. As it is apparent, something is amiss and Sender knows more than he's telling her.
This is where things turn from stressful to depressing. The life that she has lived has been filled with secrets. To top off the depressing news, she now is told she is betrothed to Sender and that she signed the contract when she was 18. Sender signed his contract at 18 also, which means she was 11 at the time. Joelie is going crazy with trying to find a way out of this madness.
This story is amazing and I would recommend reading it to see where it goes. I'm so ready for the next book. That's my only problem I have with this book, waiting for the next to come. What a cliff hanger! This book is worth every penny and your time. You will not be disappointed. You will be engrossed from the very first page! Coey Cain has been added to my favorite authors list.
When i read the Blurb for this book, i think i was expecting something completely different. But that didn't mean i didn't enjoy it. I actually really did, and i read it quickly and thoroughly -its been a long time since i finished a book, especially not a paranormal one, so quickly and enjoyed it!
There were moments when you did think "they cant spread this bit out much longer" and just as you thought about maybe skim reading, it stopped and the story picked up again, so pretty good timing!
It really is about a boy and a girl. Ok, so theres this race of "Elites" that Joelie discovers shes part of, but the book doesn't go into much detail about what the races are, why they're so special and what they can do. I'm expecting that to be more explained as the series goes on.
I think this one really was a "setting the scene" kinda book. It shows you why Joelie moved, why she was betrothed and the beginning of the whole "new" lifestyle she now has to live.
The cliffhanger at the end, wasn't a complete cliffhanger, but leaves you wondering about the character and why he has such problem.
Being a massive fan of the supernatural, i was expecting a little bit more of that kind of storyline, which there wasn't, but like i say, i did enjoy reading this book, and when the second comes available, ill be sure to be picking a copy up.
The real test i think, is how to keep the series alive and the story lines fresh, unrepetitive and interesting.....
In the meantime, i hope to enjoy the series and hope it doesn't get to that point! Great book Ms Cain, thank you for the opportunity to read it and thank you for doing guest post here on my blog! I wish you the best for the next few books! Reviewed for Nevermore books
Ms Cain should be incredibly proud to have released this book. Well written throughout. A few times i though, "Grr", possibly because Joelie can be very much a girly girl. I still found it a great read. With a great supernatural/science fiction mix, it also levers the book into, sequel territory, which I'm not complaining about.
While Joelie annoyed me as a character at times, she is well crafted, as is the hero, Sender. He sounds beautiful, and if he's real I'm going to find him! In fact, all the characters De well written, no sound suspiciously like people we may or may not know.
The plot twists all over the place, so we're on a roller coaster, so hold onto your hats and remove all loose change from your pockets, because its a bumpy ride!
This is a very good book, I really enjoyed Joelie and Sender's story. Once I started reading this book I didn't want to put it down. If you like paranormal, suspense, and romance then you need to read this book. I love the characters and the story line. It kept me wanting more, can't wait for the next book in the series comes out. I can't wait to see what happens next, especially with the ending with Diesel, have to say I didn't really see that one coming. Good job Coey Cain on a fantastic book!
A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Let me just start off by saying wow! I knew this book sounded amazing, but was blown away!! Joelie is trying to move on from her sonewhat Ex Warren, who is a little bit obsessed with her. Naturally she turns to her father, who whisks her to Sender, the man she agreed to marry without knowing about it. We follow these two on their rocky relationship, that Warren is not happy about. Amazing ending that will suprise you. I hope we get to find out more about a certain character! I truly enjoyed this romantic story that had a touch of paranormal thrown into the mix. Overall I can say this is an amazing read with great characters. WaAR
I Loved "The Elite" by Coey Cain. The characters were life like and pulled you into the story. The plot was very well written. I had a hard time putting it down and stayed up long past my bedtime to read it. The Author does an amazing job of building the reader up and keeping them interested until the very end. I feel like the ending was fine up until the last page then it made me feel like it was set up for another book. Honestly, that's what I am hoping for! Please!!!!! I would definitely recommend this book for anyone.
I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. An I loved the character's especially Joelie! I loved how she constantly argues with her family after finding out she is to be married through an arranged marriage to Sender! Along the way there are danger's galore, will she finally marry Sender? I cannot wait to read more by this author ESPECIALLY if she write's a second book as would love to know what happen's next especially with that cryptic sentence at the end from Diesal.
A good start to what stands to be an intriguing paranormal romance series. There were some structure issues early on, but the core story is interesting and kept me reading.
