Sweet Revolution

Rate this book
Tatsuki and Ohta are two beings from a supernatural, mystical realm masquerading as "cousins" in the human world. Tatsuki is in fact the successor to Ryu-Oh, the dragon king, and possesses the power of the Nyoi-Houshu, a magical dagger. Ohta is a Zashiki Warashi, a protective house-spirit without a home and is also Tatsuki's subservient lover. When their human classmate Koushi Misaki accidentally witness the two having sex, he mistakenly believes that Tatsuki is forcing the quiet Ohta into it, and he resolves to break the two apart. Tatsuki and Ohta have escaped to the human realm to avoid Tatsuki's marriage, which would have to take place if he is to become the new ruler. Even when he learns that Ryu-Oh is dying, Tatsuki refuses to return to his own realm. But when Ohta is gravely injured in a car accident, the only way to save him is to return to the home world. There, Ohta recovers, and it is discovered that his power of purification is able to restore the purity of Ryu-Oh's Houshu (treasure-sphere, the source of his magical power), thus bringing Ryu-oh back to health.

To Kouhei, to the little bird Ohta saves, Ohta Amakata has a unhealthy, submissive relationship with Tatsuki, another transfer student, one where Ohta will do anything the other boy says. There’s more to the two of them that meets the eye, for neither Ohta nor Tatsuki are exactly what they seem. Plus the time they have together on this earth may be running out. Layer upon layer is peeled away about their relationship. How gentle and kind Ohta is, how fiercely devoted to Ohta Tatsuki is, despite Tatsuki’s lack of friendliness towards anyone else. We see the two boys through the eyes of Kouhei, another boy, a likeable student a little sweet on Ohta himself, and an interesting character in own right (readers catch a glimpse of his family life). Next we see the relationship from the point of view of a poor, well-intentioned little bird who only sees the abusive side of Tatsuki. These two characters help Ohta and Tatsuki finally grasp their feelings for each other before the past summons them home and tries to separate them. Some of those who played a part in Tatsuki’s past have forbidden passions of their own. The boys’ relationship force them to confront their own feelings, plus the boys’ abilities play a part in shaping their future. All together, it was a sweet revolution as well as a sweet romance. I would have liked to have seen more of these characters, for I felt they had more stories to tell.

Short and sweet. I really enjoy the art of Yukine Honami. And the story was cute.

I would have wanted a bit more attention on the pair itself but this was nice too.

Why are house spirits so cute? Also, I second the illustrator's question, "Is this sex scene really necessary?"

I have had this book on my shelf for a while and after reading it, it will not be going back.

The story is heavily based in the demon/angel/spirit trope and it actually took a bit of time for that to be introduced to the story. Instead, the beginning is a confusing mess that it set up to look like a love triangle between high school boys.

The issues that the plot brings for these characters were so specific, that there was no way that anything else could happen. I just couldn't bring myself to care that the guys father was sick because there was no build up to the character's and I had no emotions towards them.

I liked the main story a lot; it's really cute. And there's really not a bunch of sex or anything at all graphic in it, which I liked as well because the story didn't need it. I'm kind of sad it's just a one-off and not a series.

There is some other little bonus story about some other characters and plot line that they tossed in at the end of this book but I didn't like that one at all.

Started out as a high school romance but took a very sharp turn into supernatural. Yukine Honami’s artwork is beautiful as always. Really, really would have preferred that the extra story had been left out — it left a bad taste in my mouth after what had been an otherwise very cute manga.

I bought this book at a thrift store a few years ago. I’ve tried to read it multiple times without finishing it. Now that I’m done reading it. I’m just confused.
Maybe that’s just because I don’t often read Yaoi Manga

It was a little short. I feel like we didn't really get to see Ohta's and Tatsuki's relationship before they go to the human world.

Aside from being a bit confused with the story at first, Sweet Revolution is an enjoyable, intense manga that holds lots of surprises. The story is good and the artwork is gorgeous.

This one was a neat little fantasy. It was sweet and just enough angsty goodness.
