This was a very good story. I read this book for free on Wattpad. It appears to have been written by someone in high school (notes before and after chapters talk about homework and such) and there are definitely editing errors all through the story. Regardless of this I still really enjoyed the story and the style of writing. Lux and Damon are both characters I can to care about (with Damon this took much longer than with Lux) and the story was surprisingly good.

Lux is a werewolf and 15 years old when the story begins. She's shy and a little chubby and because of this everyone teases her and calls her names...even her brother, Jared. She has a penpal in another pack that invites her to come to their pack because she's treated so badly in her own pack. Lux never intended to go, figuring that deep down her pack cared about her but when the final blow comes, she knows when it's time to leave.

Damon is 16 when the story starts. All werewolves in the book are able to sense their mate when they turn 16. Damon is the future Alpha and apparently is going to be taking over the pack in 1 year. He used to be friends with Lux but went along with the teasing in more recent years. Damon ends up being a good guy but makes some messed up decisions and both him and Lux end up getting hurt by his actions.

The day Damon turned 16 he realized Lux was his mate but didn't tell anyone. Later when she realizes it, Damon says some hurtful things and implies that she's lying about being his mate due to her long term crush on him. Lux is hurt and it gets even worse when she gets home and Jared starts yelling at her for embarrassing him by lying about being Damon's mate. At that point, Lux has had enough and as soon as Jared leaves, Lux takes what money she can scrape together and goes to the pack of her pen pal, Jason. Jason and his packmates are great to her. They become her best friends and she learns many things, including being a mechanic and fighting. She learns to be one of the best fighters in her pack and is put in charge of training their fighters. 2 years later, Lux is much changed and is pretty kickbutt. She's lost the extra weight, rides a motorcycle and can kick the butt of just about anyone that comes up against her. Her peace and happiness in her new life are shattered when she and her pack have to go help another pack that's having problems with rogue werewolves attacking them. She's supposed to be in charge of training fighters and is happy to help until she finds out the pack in need is her old pack. Full of angst and worry she goes with her new pack close at her back.

When Lux gets there everyone is shocked at how much she changed and most people don't recognize her. They also can't believe how good of a fighter she is and she has to show a couple people not to mess with her. Damon wants to talk to Lux but she refuses and tries to stay away from him as much as possible. Damon's not happy about this but since he doesn't really show any remorse, Lux sees no reason to give him anything. Her brother is guilty ridden about how he treated her and there's some drama as they try to work things out. There are major issues with the rogues and some people are killed which causes some issues. The problems spawned by the rogues are multiple and not always seen until too late. Through many obstacles, Damon keeps at Lux, trying to get her to talk to him and give him a chance. Lux pushes him away a lot in the beginning but after a while Damon convinces her to let him prove himself (Damon has kind of pushed her in to a metaphorical corner by this point but regardless...) and Lux finally agrees to a date. I was pissed at Damon for the beginning of the book but he was willing to admit his mistakes, apologized and grovelled enough that I was ok with Lux finally giving him a chance. They have a wonderful date and this seem to be going very well for Lux and Damon but evil people scheme in the background and causes a mis-understanding that has Lux thinking the worse. She makes a dumb decision and ends up in deep water and gets captured by the rogues. There is much stress and drama and Lux almost dies (have a tissue handy) but things work out and Lux and Damon get a well deserved HEA.

This was a very good story. I liked the characters and thought the story was very well written. The sexual content is rather tame. They do have sex by the end of the story but it's a "fade to black" thing. The author has a more explicit sex scene on her profile but even that isn't bad). I'd like to read more by this author. I've heard there's supposed to be a second book in a series with this one and I'm going to see if I can find it. I'd recommend this book. :D

12/2/18 - This is a reread and I will say I still liked the story but I forgot just how horrible the editing is...like really, really horrid. And there were more plot holes/areas that needed suspension of belief than I remembered. However, I still got pulled into the story and was very emotionally engaged with the characters so I still liked it very much overall. :)

Wow this story made me cry and sob and turned me into an emotional wreck.
I actually hated Damon for most part of it for how he treated Lux in the past. All the while seeing the good side of him and his admittedly hotness.
I was so mad at him and Jared that it made me shake with anger. I couldn't stand how bad they treated Lux that day before she decided to leave. It was painful and angering.
I think I liked Lux. She was kickass and strong when she came back and didn't let people walk all over her. She kicked their butts and took no shit from them.
I loved Lux and Damon's relationship. Really hot and cute.
Jared really made me sad for how he cried and felt bad about what he did to Lux. I kind of forgave him too. He was too pitiful.
I liked Jason... up to a point. I mean, he sure wasn't perfect. He did some mistakes with Lux and I also think he was a bit too sticky to her. But it was clear he loved her.
The twins were funny and cute. Taylor was cute and sweet too. I liked Chase too. But I guess I'll get to know him better in book 2.
So, the story was good and I connected to both Lux and Damon and could feel all their emotions.
That time Lux went in heat snd Damon ehm helped her was HOT.
And the hidden sex scene (written in a chapter apart from this story) was steamy! And Damon was soooo sweet with her. Every girl's dream of a first time. Mine sure wasn't anywhere similar to that.
Well done, even with all the mistakes and typos.
3.5 stars.

Found on Wattpad.

Mate or Note begins when Lux finds out who her mate is, the next alpha and most popular guy in school. But he rejects her because of who she is. So Lux runs away to a new pack leaving her family for years.

Now years later when her old pack needs help, since Lux is the best at fighting she has to go back to help train them.. But they never expected her, especially after everything that happened now they are trying to make it up to her.. But Lux isn't sure she should trust them.

This book was okay. It wasn't great, but not bad either. It has a interesting plot line, with likable characters. I loved how Lux was able to change a lot, and then come back and throw it all in their faces. That was really wonderful. Then the whole plot was just interesting. However, there was just something about it that didn't exactly make the book great. It just felt sort forced at times when it came to the dialogue. And I really hated what Lux, and one of her best friends did towards the end. To me that was just major stupidity speaking.

My primary thought reading this was how I would love to edit it, because the grammar is GHASTLY! Even the title is incorrect. Mate or Not. Is not a sentence. You're still a Jerk could pass muster, but it isn't a very good title. Oh, I know, how about "Mate or Not, You're still a Jerk"?! Like, Ready or not, here I come!
The story itself was pretty average, neither horrible nor outstanding, but ugh, sometimes you could hardly understand what the author was trying to say. You have a problem if your readers have to deconstruct and then reconstruct your sentences to understand the story.
Not worth the trouble.
I didn't even finish it.

I read this on Wattpad (link to it is in other reviews).

I loved the story, the characters, the intense emotions, and protectiveness. I'm a fan of the rejected mate trope and this book fit the bill. I read this story in one afternoon; it was engaging and written in a way that made me need to know what happened next.

Lux is teased, bullied, made fun of, and Damon, a guy in her pack commits the ultimate betrayal - he rejects his mate bond with Lux. Tired of everyone's treatment of her and nursing a shattered heart, Lux and her wolf flee the pack, renouncing status and affiliation. Lux finds herself on the doorstop of her penpal, Jason, and his pack. Two years later, Lux is a strong, competent member of her new pack, and 100% different than the girl she was when she arrived. Her life is happy and going well until a meeting with her pack.

Going back to her old pack was never an option until the rogue population exploded and pack members were disappearing never to be found again or found dead on pack land. I enjoyed the surprise her old pack was treated too upon their arrival. Her hard exterior and ability to hold her own had me rooting for her through the entire book.

Just a quick note - this is an unedited Wattpad story. There are grammatical mistakes, missing and wrong words, and other issues a good editor would help correct. My ratings generally do not take editing issues into account. My 5 stars for this book are based on the content, characters, development, world building, and the author's ability to write emotions into the story. The author of this book made me tear up no less than three times. I enjoyed the book and it's one that will stay with me.

Really bummed on this one.

I've never read a book via WattPad before, but this sounded sooo interesting, and the reviews were all great, so I signed up and started reading.

It started out GREAT! The 1st chapter sucked me in and I was invested in the H/h , even shed a few tears while I dove into the story. What went wrong? The plot really meandered in the middle, and by the time I got two thirds of the way through, I just didn't care what happened next.

This also had some serious wth? plot issues

I also felt like the author couldn't decide what genre she wanted this to be, the characters are all clearly young adult age, being 18-17, but they seem to slip in and out of the YA category. They live apart from their parents,, get drunk, and have sex .but they go to high school, sometimes(depending on the character) live with their parents and worry about prom dresses. O.o

It felt very forced, like the author wanted them to be teens, but didn't want to limit the story by having those annoying things most teenagers have. You know, concerned parents.

Overall. A very talented author who I think will write great things in the future, and will most likely never acknowledge she wrote this later on in life :)

I love rejected mate stories! They just have that thrill in them. Like how they get up and accept the fact that they're other halves don't want them. This is one of the best books in my "Rejected" list in Wattpad. Truly amazing indeed.

Plot: Lux finally found who she was and she moved from the pack that made her life a living hell just for the hell of it and when finally she gets up and leaves after she fines her pen pal is the alpha of this pack and how nicely he treated her and then she moved packs the new one treated her better and she grew as a person and learned to stick up for herself and became stronger but now she has to go back to her old pack and fines that her old pack's alpha is her mate and she now faced with the conflict of having her main bully who torment her is her mate someone who was supposed to love her and care for her and protect her.

Personal Response: This is an amazing book to see that you can overcome battles and become stronger as a person. It truly is an amazing book.

Characteristics: Lux she was this shell of a person that showed no emotion and stayed quiet and let all the abuse happen but she soon develops into thing strong women who doesn't take crap anymore.

Recommendations: I would recommend this to a mature audience again there's cursing and there is some violence.

I loved this story. It’s a paranormal story but has great storyline. The characters are fun and engaging. The twins are probably my favorite but it also shows how forgiveness is a wonderful thing. How even when someone is mean we don’t truly know what they are going through. It’s a wonderful love story about redemption and forgiveness.

Our main girl Lux is a badass and I love the relationship she has with her boys. The twins Shane and Cameron are my absolute fave. Decent read - if things were a bit more detailed and maybe a little more tension was introduced, the book could be better but, it was a nice read

"Mate or Not. You're Still a Jerk" is a Wattpad original that is among the amazing unpublished writers out there.

Free to read,

http://www.wattpad.com/story/503475-m...

You can find out for yourself just how amazingly talented this writer is.

SinplyAWriter took this story and added layer upon layer of story. She made characters that are more than two dimensions. It is well designed and very thought out. Not only is the story so outlined with amazing detail, her brilliantly crafted words added to the overall beauty and wonder of it.

*** Spoiler Alert***

Turning the age when a wolf with be able to discover their mate, she finds out that she is destine to be with her brothers best friend Damon, the Alpha of her pack. It should have been her defining moment but when she confronts him, he calls her a liar and denies what they are.

Finely fed up with the abuse, Lux makes a hard decision and leaves her brother and her pack to join with another she meets online. Two years later, her small pack is forced back to stay at her former pack's territory due to the growing threat of a deadly vicious rogue group.

Lux wants nothing to do with her former pack, she tries to leave behind the memories that torment her and move on. She has grown taller, stronger, slimmer, and is rumored to be one of the best single handed fighters around. Now she is being asked to train her former pack. How will it all go down when they finally meet again for the very first time, the "New" Lux.?

All is not well in Kansas but with a love interest to boot, a couple of rowdy werewolf twins, her mate may just have to grovel a little before she will ever look his way again.

Again, check this story and her others at Wattpad.

I found this on Wattpad along with the other books in the Mate or Not series.

The book begins with an introduction to Lux when she is still younger. Fighting with getting bullied then the rejection from her mate Lux runs away leaving a note to explain her disappearance. On her run she meets with her pen-pal Jason and decides to join his pack. Years later with constant threat of Rogue attacks Jason joins forces with another pack, but the only problem is this certain pack is Lux's old pack. Home to her bullies and her mate.

After all Lux went through she is a strong, confident character that pushes herself through every obstacle thrown at her with grace and humour. Lux has to be one of my favourite characters, she is a independent female protagonist with a rough background so when she faces her fears she faces them head on a refuses to look weak. Yet she still has her moments of weakness but she manages to return even stronger than before.

This book is one with a similar storyline to others, except the whole description seems to be in a lot more detail.

Just read this and I liked it. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started, but the story and the characters captured my interest.
It's - sometimes painfully - obvious this is the author's first story. It's not edited, there are many spelling mistakes and also some plot holes. Not enough world building and even the characters could have benefited from more characterization.
Still, this story had heart. It addressed a sensitive topic, bullying and had redemption as it's central theme. I found myself liking the characters, caring about what happened to them. I think that's always the mark of a good writer in the making.
