SoulShares #2

Gale Force

Rate this book
Conall Dary is the most powerful mage born to the Fae race since the Realm was parted from the human world, over two thousand years ago. But that very power condemns him to a lifetime of celibacy, because sex calls to power, and he has power enough to drain a world. When he refuses to use his talents for a Noble lady’s petty revenge, he finds himself shanghaied to the human world, his soul torn in half and his magick blocked.

Josh LaFontaine is the beautifully inked owner of Raging Art-On, a Washington, D.C. tattoo and piercing parlor. While taking part in New York City’s Pride march with a former lover’s dance company, his world changes forever when the man of his dreams materializes out of nowhere at his feet . Josh’s sensual and loving touch, the first Conall has ever known, may be enough to give him back the magick he’s lost. But before they can complete their Soulshare, a terrible accident leaves Conall bodiless, lost, and invisible, to everyone except – maybe – the human with whom he shares a soul. But Josh will need to find him before the ancient evil of the Marfach does or everything they have – and more – will be lost.

This story is part of a series which must be read in order. Conall is the most powerful mage since the sundering, unfortunately he is so powerful that he could drain the Realm, so he has a tight control over his powers and he can’t ever let go which means a celibate life. When he refuses to do the bidding of a noble lady, he finds himself cast out on Earth his soul ripped in two and his magic broken and he lands at the feet of a tattoo artist. Josh owns the tattoo parlour above Purgatory and is currently visiting friends, helping in a Pride march when he nearly falls over an injured man. Drawn to helping the man Josh takes him home, but the Marfach is on the prowl and before long both Josh and Conall are in danger and an accident leaves Conall in an uncertain predicament.

This is a brilliant continuation of the Soulshares series. Josh is drawn to Conall and doesn’t understand why, Conall understands that Josh must be his Soulshare, but his magic was damaged when his soul was torn in two and arousal causes him pain, but being separated from Josh is also painful. Separated when Josh’s workplace is broken into, Conall finds the pain unbearable and has an accident that renders him bodiless. Josh is the only one who can bring him back, but with the Marfach hunting for Conall and trying to find a way to the nexus, both Josh and Conall face a danger that could well destroy them.

This is a brilliant imaginative story that reveals more about the Loremasters and their plans and their involvement in the banishing’s, and also continues the Marfach’s hunting of the Fae and the nexus. Both Conall and Josh are great characters, Conall has lived a lonely life because of his powerful magic while Josh hasn’t been able to really settle for a man before, the two of them together are something special, the sex that they do have is really hot and the difficulties they face are definitely unique and dangerous. We see Tiernan and Kevin from Hard As Stone and we discover more about Cuinn and his involvement in what is happening, Marfach and its human host Janek are more involved in this story and it is far from pretty.

I love the way that this story is heading and the characters we are meeting; there is something refreshing in this world we are being drawn into with these banished Fae. Even though the Fae firmly believe that they can’t love they are doing a very good job with their Soulshares, and the storyline is fantastic with the story details becoming clearer and it makes us wonder just what the Loremasters are up to. Rory Ni Coileain gives us some descriptions that make us glad that we aren’t Janek. I can’t wait for the next story Deep Waters and what will be unveiled then.

I will recommend this to those who love broken Fae, uniting Soulshares, avoiding death, Urban Fantasy, hot sex, an imaginative storyline and a happy ending for Conall and Josh with the promise of more to come.

I have to say at the outset that I love Rory's books - very much. I loved Hard as Stone and couldn't wait for the second book in the Soulshares series to come out.I do love the supernatural aspects of her books and the world she has created for her characters to live and love in. They are full of vivid imagination and colour.

Connall and Josh are just too delicious for words on their own and together - that's a double dose of sheer indulgence. They are intricate, well developed characters and I just love the interaction between them.

I also like the fact we get to meet Tiernan and Kevin again who I fell in love with in Hard as Stone. I very much like it when when four, strong, masculine men get together to fight a common evil, the honestly malevolent Marfach who I sincerely hopes finally gets his come uppance in future works. Preferably in the most horrible way possible.

I am already impatient for the next one which Rory tells me is almost ready to go to her editor. Excellent. That's good news indeed.

The pen goddess has done it again! Gale Force by best selling author Rory Ni Coileain is absolutely phenomenal! In this book we are allowed a deeper glance into the Fae lore through the eyes of Conall Dary, a very powerful Fae. But Mr. Dary starts to see things a little differently when he meets Josh... And HOLY SMOKES, what an incredible story they share! Wow, I'm STILL shivering with delight after reading this. Two thumbs WAY up!

Book two of the soulshares series continues right along with the wonderfully imaginative writing Rory delivered in the first. The Fae realm is filling out, and what a wondrous place it is! Not to mention the sexy males who make up its ranks! I don't know if putting these books in the Erotica' catagory is doing them justice. Yes, they are erotic, but they are so much more than that! Well, WELL worth the read!!!!!!!

This book picked up the story about six month after last scene on Hard as Stone. What I wasn't expecting (from reading the blurb) was that we'd see quite a lot of Tiernan and Kevin from #book1. Sometimes, on series with a couple of books, we could read each as standalone and in random order. This one was definitely not it! Reader needed to read the books in consecutive order to follow the incidents unveiled one by one.

Conall was a powerful mage fae who got betrayed by a noble fae of the Realm and banished to the human world. As a result of being thrown through the Pattern, half of his soul and magick ability severed from him and practically thrown to his human soul-shared. Josh was visiting his ex and joining New York Pride as a red-headed, gorgeous, but injured and confused twink fall at his feet. Right there. On the street. During parade. He saved the fallen fae, and thus followed a chains of events that would change their world forever.

This was quite a busy book. Aside from Conall and Josh, and Tiernan and Kevin - who happened to be Josh's business place landlord and Josh's ex's apartment landlord - we met again with the evil Marfach and Janek O'Halloran, and one not-so-dead Loremaster. The attraction between Conall and Josh was super instant. The fast pace, the many use of faen or Fae language, and changes of POV from one character to the next, also the switch of premises back and forth got me grappled and stopped a few times. But I enjoyed the story no less. It helped that I had read the previous book, so this one was less confusing to follow.

The thing with fae of this Soulshares universe was that sex with their scair-anam heightened their magick ability. Now Conall was a virginal fae when he was on the Realm; yet Josh easily aroused and calmed him just by touch. With the need to regain Conall's magick ability, readers were treated to quite a number of their love scenes plus shared-dreams and dirty talk scenes. I didn't usually prefer too many smutty or the insta-love on my books, but since they're integral to the storyline... *shrugs*

And by the time I finished this book, I got a better depiction of this universe and what or who to expect to see on the next book of the series.

‘Gale Force’ by Rory Ni Coileain
This is book 2 in the SoulShares Series, and it continues the adventures of the Fae and the humans who teach them the meaning of love by introducing us to two new characters. Josh and Conall have their own set of issues to work through, starting with…
‘…Josh stumbled, nearly fell headlong, and barely caught himself... What the hell – There was a man under his feet. A gorgeous, chained man.’ (And no, that’s not a spoiler!)
Ms. Ni Coileain is a delight, delivering the same type of vivid descriptions, emotional drama and intriguing action that she provided in ‘Hard As Stone’.
I had high expectations when I purchased this book, and it surpassed them beautifully. I absolutely loved the first two books in this series and can’t wait to read ‘Deep Plunge’, SoulShares Number 3. I highly recommend this series as a must-read for anyone who appreciates a great read.

Very cool that he said the other guy wasn't his "boy" as if that were insulting. I get so tired of men calling their partners that even when they're not in BDSM situations.

That was supposed to kill him if he finished but now that he's fine he's okay enough to have sex?

Cool that they don't have to have intercourse for the bond to work. Any sex will do.

We're in Janek's head entirely too much.

Ugh. He needs to be really aroused to get something to work. I always feel that sex magic is just a hokey way of making a book more smutty.

I like that they remain true to their fae personalities on this side of the pattern and don't particularly like each other. I like the r alums of characters you live not necessarily even liking each other.

I love the peril and danger and intense love. But the injury isn't enough for what they go through. They should be hospitalized frequently. And there's something unpleasant about the stories, probably because we are with the evil guy too much.

This series is already getting stronger. I liked this book a bit better than the first. And on top of that we get the characters from the first still involved which always makes me happy. Conall appearing right at the feet of his soulshare is certainly a surprise for Josh, especially when he doesn't have any idea what's really going on. Poor Conall's never had any true connection with someone as his magic has always been a wall between him and others. But with Josh that connection is instantaneous. Of course nothing is simple and crazy has to happen in the middle to bring these two together. All that evil nastiness trying to disrupt our good guys is always going to throw a wrench in things.

I enjoyed this one a lot. I like Conall and Josh together and the way Conall's magic now has to work is interesting. The connection between them and with Josh's tattoo art is just kinda cool. I'm going to enjoy seeing all of the fae learning how to relate to each other in the future books. Conall and Tiernan were amusing. Looking forward to more of this series.

During New York City’s Pride march, an unconscious but beautiful man literally appears out of thin air right at Josh’s feet. Strangely drawn to the man, Josh takes him home, hoping to heal his injuries. After Conall refuses a Noble, he’s forced through the Pattern to Earth and wakes up to the other half of his soul taking care of him. The Pattern did more than just rip his soul in half, it also stripped him of his ability to channel magick, causing excruciating pain that only Josh seems to lessen. But when Josh is called back to D.C., Conall tries finding another way to ease the pain and accidentally loses his body in the process while alerting his presence to the Marfach, the evil being trying to return to his former glory. With the Marfach so close and Conall without a body, will Josh and Conall be able to complete their SoulShare and save themselves from the ancient evil trying to destroy them?

This story was nothing like I expected since I thought it’d be along the same lines as the previous book, Hard as Stone. And, yes, while obviously the book has the same elements, the feel of the story is different. In this one, Conall and Josh have to overcome the issue of Conall enduring severe pain if he gets too aroused. Personally, I really liked this because it meant the story didn’t start off from the get-go all smutty. Beyond that, I adored the characters. Conall is feisty and sarcastic at times. He holds a lot of power and he knows what the power can do so he has a lot of control and knowledge, which is very at odds with his innocent nature when it comes to sex. At the same time, I really liked Josh. I loved that he was channeling magick into the tattoos he created and that his tats were alive because of that magick. I really adored that about him but I also liked that Josh was such a very sweet, caring guy and I loved how much he cared for Conall. Yes, this one is insta-love, as well, but I still felt like Conall and Josh had feelings for each other that weren’t just because of having the same soul.

While I enjoyed this one move than the previous book, Hard as Stone, I had some of the same issues. Mainly, there was a lot of sex congregated together. Yes, I understand why there has to be so much sex, that’s how they’re able to channel their magick, but for me it’s just too much and I ended up skimming or skipping pages entirely. Another problem I had was that I found myself confused more than a few times during the story. I can’t even pinpoint exactly what it is but the story would be moving along then something would happen or a character would say something and I kept just going “What?? I don’t understand why they’re doing/saying this!” Sometimes answers to my confusion would eventually be revealed but others I was still confused on.

In the end, I still enjoyed this read. I adored the characters in this one with Conall being so innocent but powerful while Josh was the opposite. The storyline with the Marfach is moving along nicely, although I found some of the POVs featuring him and Janek to be a little excessive, I’m still looking forward to seeing how things escalate from here and who will show up next. I’m also looking forward to seeing more of these guys again!

Rory Ni Coileain steps it up a notch in Gale Force, the second installment in the SoulShare series, and what it leads to is a page turning adventure in a down the rabbit hole, through the looking glass plot that reinforces the romantic theme of two men who share one soul finding each other and fighting for their lives to be together.

One of the things I felt worked so much better in Gale Force, more so than in Hard as Stone, is that Conall and Josh’s connection, while still immediate owing to the SoulShare element, was explored with less surface and more substance here. Where Tiernan and Kevin’s bond was all about the sex, Conall and Josh’s connection is all about the need for them to avoid having sex, and I felt this lent a certain sentimentality to the story of these kindred spirits. Sex is about power—sex draws power to the Fae through their particular brand of elemental magick, and Conall must avoid drawing on that power, for to do so would mean certain destruction of the Realm.

Another theme that’s been reinforced so far in these first two books is that the Fae cannot love, even a soul shared Fae, which, while I’m not sure it really comes across as an inarguable premise—it sure feels a lot like love in spite of the denial—I do like the idea that the sharing of one soul means the human has the capacity to love enough for both men. The human is the Fae’s shield, his protection on earth, but the sealing of that bond can come only with the two men consummating their relationship. Conall and Josh being unable to do so led to the danger and drama that unfolds in Gale Force, and that leads to yet another fun and crazy acid trip encounter with the Marfach, the Fae’s archenemy. It has possessed the dead body of the human who caused so much trouble for Tiernan and Kevin in Hard as Stone, and I have an immeasurable love for the monstrous idea of it.

Some new characters are introduced in Gale Force—namely Terry, Josh’s ex, and Terry’s new lover Bryce—whom I felt were little more than throwaway additions in the grand scheme of the plot, other than to show that Bryce is a huge dick (mission accomplished!) and Terry, for no reason that was immediately apparent to me, traded down in a big way when he lost Josh. Bryce was a convenient device to aid in the Marfach’s mission, and Terry…well, I’m not sure about his role. Looking at the blurbs for the final two books, it doesn’t appear as if he features going forward, which is unfortunate because I liked him a lot and was hoping he’d find his own soul shared Fae to love and protect. Maybe a book five?

I really liked the substance of Gale Force, not only in Josh and Conall’s connection but in the execution of their story. I feel it’s a more complex plot with respect to the relationship than Hard as Stone, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it if you’re looking for a romantic fairy tale with a freaky villainous twist.

“You might want to lower your voice. I’m not in any position to go teach High Lord Expensive Suit across the way how bad an idea it is to call my lover a paranoid schizophrenic freak.”

Gale Force is the second entry in Rory Ni Coileain’s fabulous series SoulShares. In this tale, Conall Dary-the most powerful mage born to the Fae since the realm was sealed off from the human world two thousand years ago-finds himself sent to the human world and his soul torn in half and unable to use his magic, all because he refused to use his talents for petty revenge. While in the Realm, he was forced into a life of celibacy because sexcould unleash his power, which is strong enough to drain an entire world. Josh LaFontaine is the owner of Raging Art-On, a popular tatto and piercing shop in Washington,D.C. He’s in New York City to take part in the Pride parade with his ex’s dance company, he gets the shock of his life when a gorgeous man literally appears at his feet. Josh finds himself instantly attracted to this mysterious man, whose name, he learns, is Conall Dary. Conall realizes that Josh is his SoulShare, but before they can complete the bond, a terrible magical accident leaves Conall Faded completely, leaving Josh the only one able to sense him. When the evil Marfach returns and plots to use Conall’s power to take over both the human and Fae worlds, it’s a race to see who gets to Conall first.

This story is both plot and character driven. It centers around Josh and Conall, with Tiernan and Kevin from Hard as Stone-the first book of the SoulShare series-as secondary characters playing a major role in this book. Each character is vividly complex, three dimensional, and as concrete as anyone in so-called real life. Rory does a fantastic job of world building as she brings the legends of the Fae and their Realm to breathtaking life, and renders them as totally believable, and completely true-to-life. With a smooth plot flow and a solid backstort, there’s enough action, magic, horror, and hope to satisfy even the most diehard reader. The sex is smoking hot, and there are even a few scenes that are anything but ordinary! The author’s writing style is eloquent, original, and concise. I found myself pulled in from the very beginning, and couldn’t turn the page fast enough to see what was happening next! Told in a clever mix of flashbacks and present day, Josh and Conall get their HEA ending, but with the evil of the Marfach still unconquered, you know that there are more books coming in the future. If you want an exciting tale full of action, evil, magic, hope, hot men and even hotter sex, then you absolutely need to read this book.

Book 2 in the soulshare series is just as steamy as book 1 Hard as Stone. All though the sexual intimacy is less this doesn't diminish the intimacy of Conall and Josh but more like deepens and enhances it.

Conall is a powerful mage Fae who is sent to the human world because of a Noble. this kind of puts him off Noble Fae and explains his scowling attitude towards Tiernan when he meets him. that and Tiernan is rough around the edges. Heck the only one to soften Tiernan is Kevin. Such a perfect couple there. they do play a part in this book as well. but the main characters are Conall and Josh.

Josh is a sexy sweet kind tattoo artist who stumbles upon Conall on his way to a march. Conall has just come through the pattern and is disoriented. Josh takes care of him but it is more than that. Josh has a need and desire for Conall and ditto for Conall. These two are soulshares. conall sees this instantly but fears it. Not because he doesn't want someone but because it causes him pain. His magic is so powerful that he has to contain it so he doesn't cause harm. They become intimate in dreams. Dreams that bring them closer and help each other understand one another. something happens and Josh has to go away for a little while. this has Conall reeling and in pain. He tries to ease it and in the process almost loses himself completely. It is his soulshare and the sacrifice that he makes that brings conall back.

These two are one in a way that is different from Kevin and Tiernan. Josh is able to contain Conall and his power whereas Kevin and Tiernan are able to help strengthen each other. there battle to be together and fight the marfach is so intimate it will knock your socks off. Josh is sensual and loving and this helps conall overcome his fear of intimacy but when he does he becomes insatiable.

A sensual romantic love story of two soulshares who overcome fear of intimacy and loneliness to be together and almost lose themselves for love. A fight with evil brings their love out in full force and their intimacy becomes more sensual and beautiful. A great sequel to hard as stone.

First of all can I say 'YAY REDHEAD!' I like red hair. But I was confused when someone said "WHERE'S THE BLONDE??!" and the other person answered "The red head? No idea." No dude, he was after a blonde....

So this is part two to the soul share story. This book is about a different couple, but they interact with the first and they have the same issues, namely the same Big Bad. Whose parts of the book I only skimmed, I don't like this creature and it was getting in the way of happenings.

I have to say I wish there had been more character development with these guys, there was no need for world building, but I feel that a little would have helped flesh these guys out more. There was less mystery too, because something happens and josh is just sort of handed the information and told to fix it (not really). I wish we'd have been given more 'after' story too, to see how they were without all the issues. For example, Conall made a promise and I'd have liked to see him do a little towards it now that he's safe and bound etc

Both of these guys are strong types, though Conall seems younger I think that's just due to his inexperience and lack of knowledge of this world. After all he's a pretty powerful guy, he's got to have some kind of force behind him. I hope we get to see that in the next few books. Their relationship is far newer in this book, it covers a far far smaller time too.

I feel that the others are possibly going to be simular in that there is perhaps a race against the clock now. But I do hope there will be more Conall and Josh in book 3!

"We're both dreaming. We must be."

I started this book right after "Hard as Stone" with my expectations set sky high.

It pulled me in slower than I expected and the first few pages of the story as it unravels in present day were a bit confusing with the introduction of all the new characters but I kept going nonetheless and I was rewarded. It was like a dream in a night when it takes some time to fall asleep but when the dream starts, you don't want to wake up.

In this book Rory Ni Coileain not only expands our knowledge of the Fae lore and language but she also makes us love them even more despite their flaws, or maybe because of them. Another thing she does is to create the relationship between Josh and Conall in a way that made me gasp and sigh again and again. We have Conall, who had not allowed himself to be intimate with anyone all his life in order to keep control over his power, being thrown at the feet of Josh who makes his soul and body reverberate with desire every second. It can’t be anything but teasing and hot. Also the way the magick involved is shared and channeled is not only new and surprising, it is beautiful.

I loved the fact that we get to meet Kevin and Tiernan again in this book, that they participate in some of the key scenes and Tiernan is sexy and ironic as always. Another thing I have a weakness for is the Marfach and IT's interaction with its "meat". Dark and twisted as it might be, I enjoy it’s fits a lot.

Not to mention that every time Cuinn shows up he gets more and more adorable, so much that few times I had the heretic thought to skip the third book. I won't though because reading the first chapter of "Deep Plunge" got me hooked to it right away.

Just like the first book, the second one of the SoulShares series is a must read for everybody who likes hot M/M couples fantasy, good dialogue and visual writing.

This is book two in Rory’s series, and it is a good book. I didn’t love it as much as I did Hard as Stone, but I enjoyed it very much. As with Hard as Stone, it is a dense story, full of intricate details, colorful magick, and a magnificently malevolent Marfach causing trouble again.

Connall is literally dropped at Josh’s feet, and I liked that – we get to start their relationship together from second one. However, Connall spends a long, long time separated from Josh, and I really didn’t like that. (And neither did Josh ;) ) That is probably my biggest complaint. I like stories where the two MCs are together far more than they are apart and this is not the case here. I understand why they needed to be separate, and I understood that they had other connections, so it wasn’t completely two separate stories being told, but… I just wanted them together. (End of whine.)

I absolutely loved that we got to see Kevin and Tiernan again and that they are, in fact, actively involved in the story. Very hot. I love me some Tiernan/Kevin! The kink in the sex was just kinky enough and the magick was sensational.

I am looking forward to Cuinn’s story… his character is very intriguing, and can’t wait to read it.

I rate this book a solid four hearts of five and definitely recommend it to fantasy lovers and to those who enjoyed Hard as Stone. (You can read it alone, but it might not make as much sense.)

I kind of stumbled on this series and I’m glad I did. Fey being exiled to the human realm. Having their soul split in the process and becoming immortal until they find the other half of their soul in their soulshare adds to the uniqueness of the world that Rory Ni Coileain has created.

Gale Force is the second book and it takes a different twist than Hard as Stone. Tiernan had to wait over a century to find his soulshare, Kevin. Conall literally dropped at the feet of Josh the moment he was exiled. That was the only easy part about Josh and Conall’s story.

The Marfach continued to make things interesting and Tiernan and Kevin were also in the thick of things. Considering sex is the driving force behind the most powerful magic a Fey possesses, you can imagine how quickly things heat up between the characters in this series.

This book was a little longer than Hard as Stone, but the POV switching between characters kept things flowing pretty quickly. I have to say though, I could have done with less time in the Marfach’s head… it’s a pretty scary place. *shivers*

The author is releasing these books at a pretty steady pace so I already have Deep Plunge and Firestorm waiting to be read. Blowing Smoke was also recently released so stay tuned….

I received Gale Force in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is the second book in the Soulshares series and it was just as good as the first, if not better.

Conall is the most powerful mage and because he is so powerful he has to have a tight control over his powers and he can’t ever be intimate. Exiled on Earth, his soul ripped in two and his magic broken, he lands at the feet of a tattoo artist. Josh owns the tattoo parlour just above Purgatory and he stumbles over an injured Conall. Unable to explain the connection he feels towards Conall he takes him in and tries to help him heal.

Josh and Conall find themselves in danger and an accident leaves Conall in a very difficult situation. They are faced with several obstacles to hurdle in order to get to where they want to be.
In this book we are introduced to several more characters and are able to get a little bit more understanding of the Loremasters and the Marfach’s hunting of the Fae.

This was a great continuation to the series and once again the sex was HOTT!! I was glad that this book was different from the first book and based the men’s connection on a more emotional level. It was a real love story and I enjoyed reading it. So far, Josh and Conall are my favorite couple and I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

From my review: "Josh LaFontaine. Here is another character to love. Covered in his own ink, magic swirls around him. I loved him for his bravery, compassion, and determination. Such a remarkable character and those tats of his…well, that's one of the highlights of this story and I won't spoil it for you here. With each new couple and their passage to a SoulShares bond, the series gets better, the evil that is the Marfach becomes more diabolical, and the scope of the plot widens to show that the author's plan for all her characters is more complicated and delightful than I had anticipated…"

Gale Force is the second book in Rory's Soulshares series. And this reviewer thinks it's even better than the first.

Connall, who is a powerful mage in the fae world, and Josh, the human tattoo artist, are complete soul mates and you feel it in every word you read.

So far this book is my favorite in the series and I can't wait to read the others.

This is a totally hot male male love story you do not want to miss.

Congrats Rory and keep on writing.

Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance

The SoulShare series by Rory Ni Coileain is one that I will be reading time and again. I don't think I will be getting tired of it anytime soon. Good thing, since book 6 is estimated for release in December, and there are at least two more in the works after that.

Book two is as awesome as book one!! The bad guy is evil incarnate. The story moves quickly and keeps you glued to the edge of your seat. Action and hot sex mixed in with a romantic backstory makes for some seriously intense reading!

Adults only, this series is steamy and scorching both.

A great sequel to the first book. I love how the characters interact with each other and Tierann (Sorry if I spelled it wrong) and Kevin were still present through it all. The relationship between Josh and Conall is so strong. I can't wait to read the next book.
