In 1985 Rikki James was the biggest, loudest and rudest rock star the world had ever seen; headlining sold-out stadiums and arenas around the world as the lead singer of Rikki James' Rock and Roll Rebellion. Now, twenty years later, Rikki is struggling to get by with a solo career, living life through a past reputation and driving across the county in a run-down Toyota playing shows at tiny dive bars.

Showing up at O'Brien's Pub in Wooster, Massachusetts, on a warm autumn night Rikki and long-time manager, Stevie, set up for another tiny show in another tiny bar in another tiny town. But, Rikki James has had enough of the small time and is ready to do whatever it takes to put on an Earth-shattering performance that is sure to be remembered for the rest of time as the greatest performance of Rikki James' life.

Driven by ambition and fueled by memories of a broken past Rikki will do anything to not be forgotten, even if it means committing murder, but will it be enough?

5 "fan-effing-tastic" stars! This book rocks...HARD!! It was a short read but it will punch you in the face! This was another one of my "step outside of my smut box" read challenges.

When the author first asked me to review this I was like...

But from page one it grabbed my attention and kept getting better and better! I kept thinking to myself...

And by the time I reached the end...

Rough and gritty and I loved every second of it! I felt so much pain for Rikki and how messed up the situation was! It's one of the ugly realities of going from a Rock God to a Nobody and it sucks.

I highly recommend!

Dude you had me. I did not see that coming. Holy crap that was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Nicely done on this one.

Rikki James unloved by the family. Yet when fame was in the for front LOVED by all.
Sadly though things accure during rock ages and the band part ways. Yet held true to words once a family (though not blood) always a family. Being broke is something that Rikki is use to yet does not want. So taking gigs left an right to have the money in order to get the next fix or meal is what needs to be done. However, when lead back to where it started causes flash backs that causes the breaking point.
It is now time for Rikki to tell the world what really happen. To tell everyone the truth behind all the rumors. Will they be able to understand them? Will they be able to forgive them? Will they be able to love Rikki James once again? Or, or is it just to late?

One way to find out and that is by picking up this book and reading it. I swear you will not, I repeat will NOT get past the epic ending that will have your mouth hanging open once you read it.

What happens when our rockstars fall? When the drinking, the drugs and orgies becomes too much? When you’re done on the scene, younger artists, more hipp ones takes over and you’re pushed out in the cold? What then?
This is the story of Rikki James, the lead singer of Rikki James’ Rock and Roll Rebellion. In the 1980’s they were IT. They ruled the stage, but something went awry, and they split up. Twenty years later and Rikki is struggling to keep up, driving from town to town for another gig, playing the old songs. One too many ratty bars, one push and shove too much and Rikki is ready to snap. So what DOES happen when a former rock star loses it?
King Nothing is a story that gives more than what you anticipates. It also shows you the less glamorous side of being a beloved rock star. King Nothing took me by surprise and I found myself reading faster and faster, scrolling down the pages, wanting and needing to find out more about Rikki, and what happened all those years ago. Because how could it all go wrong? How could Rikki end up like that?
There is a lot about King Nothing that I liked. Did the end surprise me? Well, not really. But the epilogue sure as hell did! I like how Rikki could work a crowd, how Rutherford made me feel like I was sitting there with the band, experiencing everything; the sex, the drinking, the drugs, every fight. He made it feel so real to me, and dragged me into it.
This isn’t a pretty story, never was meant to be, but it doesn’t have to be all glory and sparkles to work. Because King Nothing is good. Well written, grabs you in a way you didn’t expect and delivers a few surprises as well. I can’t wait to see what else will come from W.S Rutherford in the future!
