Jo Burke hasn’t had it easy in life and that includes her history with men. She’s resigned herself to the fact that she really knows how to choose ’em. Not. So when Tate McBride comes around, she doesn’t trust her instincts for a minute because those same instincts have proven faulty time and again. He can’t be nearly as great a guy as he appears to be on the surface. Tate McBride enjoys being around the feisty redheaded but can’t quite get her to trust him. He’s not worried, though, because one way or another he’s going to win her over. When Jo’s life is in danger, Tate comes face to face with the possibility of losing the woman he loves. He’s not about to let that happen
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
Loving this series so far, but no so keen on this story. I miss the real cowboy stories - this seems to be mostly based on a con artist who is married, though Charlee (Jo's half-sister) doesn't know this. He also wants Jo killed, which doesn't happen - and all for money. Saying that, I did read it to the end and it was good reading, but far prefer a more cowboy-ish leaning. 3.5☆
Insert my frustrated sigh here. This chick, Jo. She's having lunch with Tate. Tate's ex shows up and invites herself to join them, sits down at their table, ignores her, flirts with Tate, etc. So Jo tucks tail and runs away. Tate doesn't make his ex shove off, doesn't make Jo stay, just sits there dumbfounded as his ex takes his place of his date. Fuck both these characters, but whatever... I can forgive once.
Okay so, in a scene later on, the ex shows up during Jo & Tate's date and demands a dance with Tate. Jo tells them to "Go on, have fun." and so Tate runs off with his ex girlfriend and Jo stands around on the sidelines while the ex tries to get Tate back. Are you kidding me? If Jo had any less of a backbone, she'd be a fucking jellyfish.
I can't stand how little self-confidence Jo has and her freaking about food is making me hungry. Tate is a moron that is so determined to be a gentleman, he lets his ex drive away his current love interest. The author also does a horrible job at foreshadowing - just by the sentence used to introduce a character, I knew exactly what would happen, which was confirmed by their first sentence even though it's supposed to be a suspenseful secret.
The cowboys just get hotter, the gals get more beautiful, the love more explosive, and the peril more dangerous.
Tying You Down features another of the McBride men. This time it's Tate, and he's got his eye on Jo ... who he hasn't seen since she was 11 years old. At that time, Jo's stepmother had sent her away to school and this is the first time she's been back in 15 years.
But true love doesn't always run smooth. There's an old girlfriend of Tate's who keeps popping up, making her presence k nown as much as she can. She has decided that she wants him back and what she wants, she gets. When accidents start occurring and putting Jo at risk of losing her life, Tate is worried sick that whoever is behind this campaign will finally get the job done.
Jo's sister has a new man in her life who she suspects of being something other than what he presents. So is he behind the accidents? Or maybe the girlfriend who wants Jo out of the picture as far as Tate is concerned.
Intimate moments are hot, hot, hot.... but it adds to the story and does not detract from the action going on outside the bedroom.
I am going to sound like a broken record when it comes to the narration for this series. But he just sounds too old for these characters.
I really enjoyed this story. Jo and Tate do not have it easy their love story has some big road blocks they have to over come. But they work through it like champs. I sure didn’t see where the story was heading.
I feel for Charlie, I hope she get a HEA because she deserves it. She is a little naive but that is normal with her age. I think I forget these characters are only in their 20 to early 30’s with the sound of the narrator.
Get ready to listen to a story with a little of everything! Tate has loved Jo since they were kids. Now grown, and both back home in Prescott, he finds his chance to finally make her his! This story has a little slow burn, Jo and Tate are getting to know each other again. Jo's younger sister, Charley, gets herself mixed up with an older man, David much to Jo's disdain. There is a lot going on, Jo dealing with her battle of anorexia, Tate is having trouble on his ranch and Charley is blinded by love. As Tate and Jo get closer, accidents begin to happen to Jo...and when her life is at risk, Tate will do anything he can to find out who is doing this and keep her safe. McCray weaves a story of lust, love, greed and deception. All the twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat and this cowboy will find his way into your heart. With some cameos from the previous installments, you will feel right at home as you listen.
David Quimby is this series for me, he brings to life the McBride men, each with their own personality. I love his easy pace and warm voice and always enjoy his narrations.
Have it in Audio This is book 4 to the series. I have heard book 3 and this was just as great. David again did a great narrator voice. He had a smooth voice and was clear
Hero is Tate. Heroine is Jo . Tate is on a lunch date with Jo. Tate had feelings for Jo when they were younger but before they can grow Jo’s mother sent her away for school. They haven’t seen each other for 15 yrs When they are sitting down at a restaurant who shows up and ruins the mood ? Tate’s ex girlfriend . She just sits down and monopolize Tate’s time. Jo just gets up and leave. This with Tate’s ex happens again . Jo is always left out. Tate’s ex wants him back. Meanwhile Jo’s sister is dating a shady character. Accidents start to happen to Jo. Nothing is taken seriously at the time but they keep on happening and Tate is worried Grab it and see is it Tate’s ex who wants Jo out of the picture for good or is the shady character that is dating Jo’s sister
Book four in the Riding Tall series is a little dated. I actually read these when they first came out but discover I have all the Riding Tall II so I wanted a little catch-up. Jo Burke use to live in Prescott. At age eleven, after her dad died her evil step mother sent her off to NY and boarding school. With no money except for tuition she became a model. While modeling she became anorexic. Having moved back home to be closer with her step sister Charlie she opens up Jo-Jo’s.
Tate McBride runs into Jo and remembers her from way back when. While he would love to date her, she is shy and an old, old, old GF is back in town thinking she and Tate will pick up where they left off, before she dumped him. These McBride boys have being a gentleman down to a science. He needed to tell her to take a hike way before Jo finally spoke up.
There is a mystery here. We know all the details but a couple of accidents, a hit man, and a McBride PI puts things together.
Tying you down is the second book in the Riding Tall series I've listened to and second book by Cheyenne McCray and confirmed my initial reaction that the author is very talented and the series is a worthwhile listen with the right balance of suspense, love, and sexy times. This story does deal with a character who once was anorexic and still struggles with the psychological effects.
David Quimby is a fantastic narrator who really delivers! He's one of the few male narrators who can successfully tell an entire story with multiple characters who never grates.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I am a big fan of Mr. Quimby's voice, he can change it to fit the characters and their emotions masterfully. - 5 stars
I enjoyed this new instalment in the series, and had fun tagging along Joe and Tate as they get their second chance at love and eventually HEA. Joe's protectiveness and the quick thinking of Tate save her sister, Charlie, quite suspenseful. I really got to dislike Tate's old girlfriend who kept popping up and causing drama. Looking forward to the next book. - 5 stars
Captivating. As the saying goes! When in doubt, check it out Jo had the opportunity at the church to find out the truth about David and she didn't take it. Jo thought she was over thinking her doubt because she has lost faith in men. She didn't trust David✔️ He is the worst of the worst, a predator. She trusted Tate ✔️ Tate was exactly the right man for her so her instinct was right on the money. I am really enjoying this series.
We have emotions and great plot. And what a plot. Jo and Tate are perfect for each, both have a past. Jo picking the wrong, men and had a Tate an ex girlfriend. A Ex you just don't need .
Oh Jo's sister, Charlie's boyfriend David... well let's say he needs a good, sharp shock.
I liked this more than the previous books in the series. Richer story, although there was definitely one editing problem that should have been caught. Nice couple, I thought Jo's anorexia was handled really well.

The story was great! I love cowboy romance books and was itching to read one when this fell into my lap. It was just what I needed! This romance was unlike many others that I have read and was very refreshing.
The narration was interesting... The narrator was good but I feel he was not the right fit for this type of book. I would have preferred a narrator with a more sensual voice.
Tying You Down by Cheyenne McCray was a great read. I really enjoyed reading Jo and Tate's story. Jo hasn't always had the best past with men and that makes her not trust her instincts when she met Tate. When Jo's life is in danger, Tate realizes just how much he'll do for Jo.
Audiobook Review Really like this series. David Quimby does a wonderful job making this audiobook a pleasure to listen as always Great characters and with a very entertaining storyline.
Jo and Tate were childhood friends, until her dad died and her step-mother sent her away. Now many years later, Jo has returned, purchased a bar and is doing her best to counsel her much younger 1/2 sister in relationships. Tate is glad that Jo is back and wants to be more than friends, but will he be able to convince Jo? Meanwhile a con man is making moves on Jo's sister, and she no longer wants Jo's guidance. When several attempts have been made on Jo's life, will Tate be able to protect Jo, and find out who's behind it all? This was a well written book with just enough suspense that kept you on the edge of your seat...or white knuckling your steering wheel! Thankfully, the bad guys are caught and we have a great HEA. Great narration as well. Look forward to catching up on the rest of this series.
****A gifted copy was provided by the author for an honest review****
This book is about Jo Burke and Tate McBride.
Years ago when Jo was a pre-teen, she knew Tate but her wicked step mom sent her away to New York City to school. Now that her step mom is dead, Jo is back to help her younger half-sister out and that puts her back into Tate’s world.
When this book starts, we see Jo and Tate together coming from Tess and Gage’s wedding. Tate is making some veiled comments about how he wants to get more into Jo’s life. Jo, who has been hurt by men before, is leery to let him close to her. Tate lets Jo know he will get into her life and show her that he Is serious and not like the other men that she knew.
As the story progresses, Jo is dealing with her half-sister and this guy who is not what he seems. Jo is worried she will be hurt terribly. Jo’s sister will not listen to reason about him. She has blinders on and nothing Jo says or does will get thru.
Tate’s x-girlfriend comes back into the picture. She wants to get back Tate. She is horrible to Jo. This causes Jo some insecurities. Tate does not show he wants his x girlfriend around. Jo and Tate work past this and just realize they have something special and it is worth looking into.
As they are dating and as Jo is trying to keep an eye on her half-sister, Jo is besieged by “accidents”. Tate is terrified he will not be able to keep her safe. As the story comes to a climax, there is a major twist and turn. It had me on the edge of my seat. This is such an awesome story. The words are so deep and paint such a picture that you feel that you are literally in the story. I will say I hope that Jo’s sister gets her own story down the road. Another fantastic story in the Riding Tall series.
Talk about a hot and sexy romance - wow! And this isn't only a romance, there's plenty of tension to be had and danger to be faced.
I loved the way Jo and Tate's chemistry just burned the pages. And Tate is a definitely an alpha male, but he is also caring - which is a rather brilliant change from so many of the alphas out and about in romance books. He treats Jo the way she deserves.
I was holding my breath through a number of places in the book, not knowing if, how and when the various dangers would be overcome.
Cheyenne McCray has created a world full of characters you could imagine meeting (well, Tate is that bit special!), but you know what I mean. And Jo's past is grounded in reality, you believe she's gone through her history - it rings true.
Man oh man...poor Jo, once is enough to have someone try to kill you...after two times I would be looking over my shoulder but three times really...she should be cowering in the house and afraid to leave. Geesh. I was looking forward to reading Jo's and Tate's story and it didn't disappoint...it had suspense and action but it didn't lack in romance or steamy sex scenes. Not to mention the fact that you don't see stories where the heroine suffers from anorexia. It's a subject that isn't talked about and needs to be...especially in a world where media forces the thought that if you aren't the size of a runway model then you are fat.
I highly recommend this series to people who want a great read that is not only a quick reading series but also has great stories as well.
So, I think the last book and this one has changed my mind about this series. It started out kinda flat but the last two books have really turned it up.
The danger and darker elements that the author is incorporating into these now is really keeping me interested. I just hope they don't start becoming repetitive.
With all that being said. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found myself yelling at some of the characters and wanting to slap some sense into them. I think I even wanted to crawl into the book and corrupt the plot a little bit. I think Prescott may be a town full of closet crazies!
I think I'm fully vested in this series now and I'll definitely keep reading.
I LOVE CHEYENNE MCRRAY'S BOOKS I'VE READ MANY, MANY OF THEM. THIS WAS A ROMANCE WITH A BIT OF A MYSTERY TWIST. AN EXCITING STORYLINE, I ENJOYED TATE & JO THEY WERE MEAN'T TO BE. TATE IS A MCBRIDE, FINE A** ALPHA MALE ALONG WITH THE REST OF HIS BROTHERS, THE WHOLE CLAN, ALL EYE CANDY (RIDING TALL SERIES). SMOKIN' HOT, STEAMY OMG! BREAK OUT THE COLD DRINKS. . . WHEWEE!!! JUST LOOKING AT THEM WILL GIVE YA' CAVATIES.
Jo, a woman with poor judgement in men is attracted to Tate but can she really trust herself with her assessment of him? After all, it's always backfired in the past, right?
Tate decides that he'll prove to her that he's the right man for her. Once realizing that he's in love with the woman, her life is in danger but he can't lose her.
In this HEA read, McCray succeeds at a little suspense, some heat and passion and a wonderful cast of characters.
Jo and Tate make a good couple. Both have been hurt in the past and have some issues (especially Jo) now. The one element that I found most interesting is Jo's issuees with food and. How she deals with it. So many times those things are not talked about and kept hidden. Food issues are real and a problem in our society. More important is to know they kill.
I recommend this story, although there are a couple of explicit scenes I would, with discretion, allow a teen to read.
Another great book with a good amount of action all wrapped up in good old fashion cowboy romance. Cheyenne McCray is a superb author who puts lots of detail into her book to make you feel like your right there with the charaters. Towards the end (usually the last couple of chapters) it gets a littel rushed and a lot of the details get missed. Would love to dive in to more of these characters once they get thier happy ever after. Can't wait to keep reading.
I'm loving this series, the Mcbrides are hot... Tate and Jo's story is just as good as the rest! Jo left her hometown when she was 11, her stepmother sent her to boarding school... She left everything she knew, including Tate... She started modelling so she had money to live on and was hurt time and time again by men... so when she comes home and Tate asks her out, she's too afraid that he will hurt her....
3.25* This is a great series and I would highly recommend it to everyone. I cant wait to see what comes next. However I enjoyed this book but it wasn't as good as the rest of the series. It just felt like it was missing something. Jo and Tate were good together and I'm hoping to read Charlee's HEA. I'd also like to read more about the McBide cousins.
Just like Jo, I had a feeling David was a no good scoundrel but I had no clue how evil the man would become. Jo lucked out and managed to evade death not once, but three times courtesy of David's scheming ways. I'm sure it'll be no surprise to the readers to see good overcame evil. It usually does in romance stories and that's what we all want to see happen. :)
