It’s a good book the reiterates the need to be data focused in CRE. You’re a technology company that’s product is CRE. Babe Ruth’s quote, "Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today's games," lingers on from the onset of the book. In today's landscape, relying on outdated tactics is a recipe for mediocrity. It's time to shift your mindset and embrace innovation. Don't settle for being just another player in the real estate game when technology can revolutionize your approach. One of the book's key themes is leadership. Beyond the Building by Rob Finlay is a comprehensive guide for people who run or are thinking of starting a commercial real estate business. In the book, Rob goes over strategies to position yourself as a technology company and use data to improve your performance and satisfy your customers.
The book is a good guide, and there are online resources that further help readers to work through the materials and apply it to their own situations. I especially like that there are sections specifically about small, mid-sized, and large businesses, so readers can get tailored advice on how to implement the concepts depending on the current size of their company. I would recommend this book to anyone who's interested in commercial real estate and especially people who are already running a business and would like to optimize it. Although the book is helpful for everyone, the focus is on US businesses and locations.

It guides small and midsize CRE firms in recognizing market trends, predicting industry shifts, enhancing leadership skills, and gaining a competitive edge. Finlay challenges the conventional view of real estate firms, urging them to embrace technology and position themselves as tech companies investing in real estate, charting a new path for the industry's future.
Don't bother to read it - it's a bunch of repackaging of KPI's and basic data analysis. Very rudimentary. The author is supposed to have over 20 years of experiences in this field, but the book certainly did not reflect that. Data driven organization is nothing new. I was hoping to learn about the metrics that one can use to arrive at the valuation of a commerical property. No such luck.
