Rate this book
“Love is unpredictable.”

Even if you’ve fallen in love a million times, you can’t claim, “Alam ko na ‘yan!” And that’s because “Ang pag-ibig kapag sineryoso, nakakabobo.”

It’s really complicated, but you have to remember, “Sa isang relasyon dapat masaya ka, hindi ka stressed, hindi ka pressured.”

Because “Love is such a wonderful feeling!”

And to those who have not experienced what it is like to be loved, don’t worry, “Lahat ng kaldero, may nakalaang takip.”

365 quotes: Read one love quote a day to keep the love troubles away.

John Gemperle is the real name of Papa Jack, the late night till early morning DJ of 90.7 Love Radio's show, TLC (True Love Confessions) and WC (Wild Confessions). One of my Goodreads lady friends recommended his programs to me several years ago. I tried listening to him once because of this recommendation but did not like it. However, during the last few months, I had to come home very late at night or very early in the morning because of my phone conferences with my colleagues in the US and my eyes were already tired so if I could not sleep (blaming my biorhythms), I donned my headsets in bed, surfed the radio stations in my mobile phone and most often than not, ended up listening to Papa Jack's program. So, when I heard last week that Papa Jack has a book and the following day saw this at NBS Bestsellers Robinsons Galleria (for only P143. take note of this price, they launched this last Feb. 14 I think), I bought this right away.

Papa Jack has many followers here in the Philippines and I think this has something to do with his movie star looks:[image error]This book is a collection of the 365 quotes from the radio shows. Quotes that were spoken either by the callers (mostly) or Papa Jack himself. This is not really different from the earlier similar books that made money so Summit probably came up with the idea (strike while the iron is hot). I am talking about the recent bestsellers: Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?: Ramon Bautista's At Iba Pang Technique Kung Paano Makaka-Move On sa Wasak na Puso (2 stars) and The Best of Chico & Delamar's The Morning Rush Top 10 (1 star). The latter has a second book already and my good friend Moomai said that it was a lot better than the first so it is there in my to-be-read folder.

Since Papa Jack's programs are about callers telling him their problems on love, the quotes are funny, witty, shocking but sometimes mundane and even pathetic or stupid. But they are here in this book and they are nice to read. However, Papa Jack's advices are all common sense. For me, the reason why these programs have a lot of patrons or listeners is just that in this world of chaos and non-stop rush, we have no time to pause and reflect. We have no time to talk to friends and pour out what we are thinking and what we are feeling. Sometimes we don't even have friends to talk with. That's what Papa Jack offers. Sad but true. I also think that some callers value the anonymity because I think (I have not tried calling hahaha) you don't need to tell your real name when you call.

Overall, a nice easy-to-read book that you can finish in maybe 30 mins if you read the book straight in 1 sitting. Some quotes are just for browsing because they are really really declarations of common sense or sometimes, lack of it. That's, for me, when they become funny.

I was really not a fan of Papa Jack's program pero minsan nakakapakinig din ako ng program nia. Ok naman nakakatawa sia at the same time yung mga advice nia sa callers nia minsan talaga sapul sapul eh.

As for the book ok naman siya, I think madame din talaga yung makakarelate sa mga quotes na nakapaloob sa librong ito. Syempre di maiiwasan na at some point eh nakarelate din tayo sa mga bagay bagay na nakasulat dito. Most of the time yung mga sinasabi ni Papa Jack nakakatawa pero may tama naman minsan.

Mabilis itong basahin in an hour siguro matatapos mo na ito.

Maganda!

I am a radio person, even back in elementary...I love listening to the radio. I do watch a ton of TV but when I'm bored, just needs to chill or in a cool-down I listen to the radio.Maybe that is why I know a lot of songs, even those that are already old. My siblings used to tease me that I came from another era wherein I even know the songs from my parents' generation. When I was on field or I came home late from the office I easily get bored...then my officemate told me to listen to 90.7 Love Radio and wait for Papa Jack's show "True Love Conversations" (from 9PM to 12MN) and Wild Confessions (12MN to 2AM)...and I was hooked ever since. That was 5 years ago. Papa Jack is a radio DJ whose show format consist of callers asking for love advices. There are callers that could touch your heart, you might sympathize with them and there are some who are downright idiots that even the DJ would scold him/her on air. He is very blunt and brutally frank that at first a listener would be irritated but you know that he is just stating the facts. He always tells the caller that the moment he answers the call, he will be very blunt and be a friend. This book is a compilation of the stories and quotable quotes he did say on air from the getting to know stage till the end of love. It has humor...mostly Filipino humor, so to foreign friends, they might not understand because of the culture (mostly in taglish format) but this is one feel-good breezy read.

Papa Jack segment on LoveRadio has been my confidant during my work night shift stints for 5+ years. Knowing he finally had a book that would eternally keep his PapaJack-isms, had me excitedly bought the book. I admit he have his moments and mostly knock some sense into his radio listeners/callers' cells. I've read this book with my fellow housemates while reminiscing some of his unforgettable talks. We have so much fun reading it that I had highlighted the funny ones as my favorites. He's got nod-worthy thoughts and that inspire me to be better. He also got questionable ones that lead us to discussions. Overall, this is a feel good short read that will leave you smiling. Read on! Let love lead you to be better not bitter!

Really "aliw" this book, and fun to read. Blame it on listening to Papa Jack's show every night haha. Cute illustrations and quotes that will make you think, agree or disagree. If you like the DJ, you'd enjoy this book. And if you don't, and you're Filipino and can read and speak Tagalog, then you do have to check this out.

didnt enjoy reading this book, because I find it very "shallow" and it takes us away from the reality or the truth. Ramon Bautista's Bakit hindi ka crush ng crush mo is better, for me though

Papa Jack did a great job here. :D

Didn't knew that April Asis-Manto was the one behind the design and layout for this book, and that her husband was the illustrator. I love their collaboration.
