I was actually a little conflicted with this book. Which is not to say that I didn't love every minute of it, because I did. Much like its predecessor, Tainted Grace was filled with action, romance, and characters that have come to feel like family to me. My confliction comes from a major plot twist that happened about seventy-percent into the book. I don't want to give anything away, which means I basically can't talk about it at all, but I will say that I was half-and-half on what happened. A part of me was pretty pissed, I'm not going to lie. But then this whole other side of me started rooting for it to keep happening. I never saw it coming, but once it was there, I kind of liked it. And as you're reading this, if you haven't already read Tainted Grace, you're probably pretty confused. Sorry for that.
Anyways, back to things I am allowed to talk about...I love Gus! This is not surprising, as he's been my favorite character since he first stepped foot into the pages of Grace Lost, but in this second edition, my love for him grew almost to that of worship. He's amazing. I love the way he holds everyone together. I get butterflies in my stomach every time he says darlin'. The other characters were all great as well, but in my opinion, Gus is the true hero of this series. I also enjoyed the addition of new characters. Nathan was awesome. I loved how well he fit into the group. Plus, Susan totally needed to get laid, proven by how much nicer she was after Nathan came around. Speaking of people getting laid, Zoe does, quite a few times. This book was even more geared toward adults than the last, which is good since I am one. There were a few detailed sex scenes, in fact the book opened with a pretty saucy one. Not that I mind that sort of thing ;) but I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone under the age of seventeen. And the gore! Oh, man, it was so gross at times! The descriptions were so detailed that I found myself wanting to gag...it was awesome! This series is what a zombie-apocalypse book should be, and coming from someone who loves all things zombie, this is high praise. Good work, M! You've written a phenomenal series! I can't wait to see what comes next!

I'm sort of at a loss about how highly rated these books are, mostly because there are a horde of other zombie-fiction type series that are FAR better written, with equal to, or much lower scores. I mean, I see potential in Lewis as a storyteller that I could really enjoy, but so far that potential is being unmet.
That being said, I now find myself at a bit of a crossroads...
None of the issues I found with the first book were improved. As for the character development I was hoping for, nada. I still find the cast pretty one dimensional and almost impossible to care about. If anything, I'd say my initial complaints have about doubled at this point.
Zoe is still one of the weakest, most annoying female leads I've ever taken a journey with. She's starting to make Bella Swan seem tough and rational. Oh, as for her relationship with Boggs... we've all heard that adage, "Still a better love story than Twilight", but I'm thinking Meyer deserves the point here. I was thinking that even before Zoe's little tryst with Gus began, but now... yikes. As for that deviation from the original plan? Ha! Okay, look...
In the first book I found myself often shaking my head over the absurdity of frequent and unnecessary sex scenes. Not that I'm a prude in any way, shape or form, but I find sex for sex's sake rather weak. If it makes sense, if there's actual passion, if helps to propel the story forward--if it's an erotic novel--then Great! But..
Here we are, stranded in the middle of a zombie apocalypse with our characters; danger to the left of them, danger to the right, and, "Oh! Hey! Let's go set out on that lake and have ourselves a little afternoon delight!" Though there seems to be far fewer of these scenes in the second book, I can't help but find them increasingly ridiculous. Now we got a car full of survivors up on the road, resting after fleeing (and fleeing) for their lives, but let's follow Zoe and Gus down to the water's edge so they can not only risk their lives in the stupidest way possible to give us another outrageously unnecessary sex scene--while, I should add, the father of Zoe's unborn baby waits oblivious up above--but also destroy what little character development there's been so far. I mean, jebus! First, Zoe's telling us how Boggs is like a brother, and then the next thing we know she's falling into bed with him. Fair enough; sometimes friendship unexpectedly becomes more. It happens. So then, when the guy nearly twice her age (and coupled with the redhead she constantly refers to as being like her sister) suddenly makes a play for her, we're asked to forget that the (weak, but there) character arc on Gus up to this point has been to present him as a stand up guy; a wiser, older man looking over Zoe almost like a daughter or younger sister. He's well aware that she's naïve (sometimes outright stupid) and immature, that she likely was in no way mentally or emotionally prepared for an adult relationship with her one-time best friend, and yet he's not too busy trying to survive (and keep everyone else alive) to take the time getting into Zoe's pants. Really? Okay, if you say so.
Take all that, add in the fact that the stereotypical male/female roles here (I MAN--I hunt, I kill, I protect! You woman--You cook, you clean, you cower but don't ever listen when I tell you to stay put!) are almost sickening, and you got what I would generally call a spectacular crapfest.
Yet...
(And here's where I get back to that crossroads I mentioned.)
Though I did nearly give up on the book right after Zoe's riverside 'checkup' (I actually snorted, shook my head and walked away from the book for the night, thinking I wouldn't bother going back to it), there is something compelling me to move forward to 'Dark Grace'. I don't know if I'm just a masochist, or if I'm Zoe-level naïve to think that things will turn around... maybe I just hope that by book three, Lewis will really start finding her groove. I don't know, but I'm just curious enough about whatever might be growing in Zoe's belly, and our now communicating zombies, to embark on the third leg of the journey. I do so cautiously, and with much lower expectations than I had going into this series initially.
May god have mercy on my soul.

For me this book was a step up from the 1st novel in this series. The writing and dialogue are better, and just overall a better book. I think the author has grown since her last book, and it shows in this book.

We get the more mature Zoe in this book. She is struggling with her new life and circumstances all while dealing with those wacky pregnancy hormones. She is scared about having a baby in this zombie infested world.

I love how the group functions. Everyone has different roles, and they all work together to make the best of the life they have. Zoe comments on how maybe people will look down on the girls since they have taken on the roles of keeping house and cooking, while the guys take on the more manly tasks like hunting and keeping everyone safe. I think that with technology taken out of the picture, most of society would fall back to these general roles.

I wanted to cry along with Zoe when their house burnt down. They had all worked so hard to fortify that house and had made a nice little home for themselves, it was heartbreaking to see it go.

As far as relationships go, I for one was taken completely by surprise by this turn of events. I was not expecting that at all. I wont spoil it for anyone, but wow are we in for some drama in the next book!

Will I read the next book in the series? Absolutly!
Will I recommend this book? Yes, it is a nice quick read!

HOLY SHIT!
I am so scared. I am so a little bitch I had to skim on some paragraphs cause I was soo scared. These books are better then any zombie movies I have seen. I super anxious the whole time while it was reading it.
The best part of these books it that they dont lagg and are pretty quick reads that get the point across. Plus these Zombies were original and smart to top it off.
*SPOILER* *Spoiler*
And I still cannot believe what the refugee camp did to those remaining survivors!!!! WTF...arent to supposed to be helping them.
The whole this with Gus I did not see that coming....

Tainted Grace is the second novel in M. Lauryl Lewis' Grace series.
Going into reading this novel I knew that I didn't like the main character Zoe, she had kind of rubbed me the wrong way throughout the first novel Grace Lost and honestly if it wasn't for Ms. Lewis' unique take on the zombie apocalypse I probably wouldn't have even continued on in this series because of how annoying I found Zoe...but continue I did and here I am at the end of the second installment still loving the concept and the world building...but really fucking hating Zoe...seriously in the course of a few chapters I went from being mildly irritated by her to absolutely not being able to stand her!! In the first book I thought she was whiny and annoying I kept waiting for her to grow some balls to step up and become a bad ass, because that is what is required to live through the apocalypse...well maybe she did find a little back bone but she did it at the cost of loyalty and respect...seriously... I feel bad for Boggs and Emelie for devoting parts of their hearts to such a lying weak little witch. And the worst part...she dragged Gus down with her, he was my favorite character in the first book but now I just want to punch him too.
The good part is the story is still interesting despite the character flaws, the world building is superb and the origins of this unique zombie infection is still a mystery that I have yet to figure out. I think for those reasons I will probably go ahead and check out the next book in the series...but seriously Zoe needs to either redeem herself quickly and hugely or become less of a focal point because I'm not sure how much more of her shit I can take.

Seems like most sequels pale in comparison to the original but NOT T HIS ONE! Even better than the first book. A++++ to this writer. Plot twists kept it real. The gore is beyond just fantastic. Adult scenes are hot. Not the best to read alone at night cuz its pretty freaky scary. Waiting anxiously for the next one ~ BRAVO!

Spoiler Alert!!!! I love this series so far. The author really knows what shes doing. I can picture everything in my head like a movie as I'm reading. I love the characters and I am so happy that they found each other, and in doing so, they also found companionship and even love 💘. They feel like a family in this messed up world. Boggs and Zoe are great together. Emily and Gus are also perfect together. I'm actually staying to like Susan now to lol. I'm happy for her and Nathan. I love the lol girl Jane they found even if it not get real name lol. No one knows her real name yet. It was so cute when she seen the can of raviolis and yelled..... RAVINOLIS, yay. Lmfao. It was cute that she pronounced it that way lol. I do love all characters but sometimes it does seem like Zoe is so dependant on the guys and weak. She needs to start being more independent and tough. Hopefully once she becomes a mom she will change and be a bad ass!!! :)
I am over half way through with book 2 and I have to comment on this part. I am aggravated and pissed at what Boggs did to Zoe even if Zoe did something stupid that put herself and the life of her unborn child in danger. She thought she was doing it for her family but she went about it the complete wrong way. That is still no excuse for what Boggs did to her tho. I am also aggravated that right after he did that, Zoe turned to Gus. I get it, she's mad but it doesn't mean she needs to be with someone else for a minute. She knows what she is doing is wrong but she still does it and same goes for Gus, he knows it's wrong but he still does it anyways.. Boggs and Emily don't deserve that....... No one deserves that. They may not have went all the way yet, but there is still more to the story so I don't know what will happen. Zoe has known and loved Boggs since she was born and she shouldn't do that. Emily is her best friend and she shouldn't do that to her either since she knows Emily is in love with Gus and they are together as a couple. It's just not right at all. I will add more to the review I just needed to vent my frustrations about that particular part lol.

Just finished and still love the series so far. I am freaking out about what's going on with Zoe and get pregnancy and I hope it works out. Im happy they found an island and hope they can make it home, but the way these new zombies are is terrifying for sure.

I love this series and I can’t get here characters out of my head. Great writing and characters have a way of sticking with you. Zoe, Emily, Boggs & Gus continue on their adventure. There’s some love mess in this one too, not a triangle more like a square. Lol
I didn’t enjoy his narrator as much as the first book but she did a great job. Her county boy accent made Gus sound stupid and her own accent sometimes got in the way but all in all she still did a great job. I just tend to hate it when a series changes narrators after one has been established. I already downloaded book 3 to start today. Love the zombie genre and this one has a few new ideas and that doesn’t happen very often.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Excellent read

After reading the first book of this series I couldn't wait to read this one. I love the story the author has made up.. I'm not into zombie reads or movies but when I started reading the first book I could not stop. I'm too excited to start the third book already. I highly recommend these books for anyone to read. I love the characters..but Gus is my favorite. Manly man taking charge of the group.. such a good heart and he can about do anything.. I just hate they betrayed their friends and their own lovers to sleep together. I mean it's the end of the world in this storyline..why betray the only people you have left to trust. But it's a book, gotta spice it up and I'm enjoying it.. never a dull moment in this world they are living.. truly recommend..

Tainted Grace (The Grace Series Book 2)

The further adventure of survivors. The survivors so far: Zoe - pregnant, Boggs, Emilie, Gus, Susan, Nathan, Abby, Bill, Jack, Kelesy, and Aldo. The survivors meet love with another group and the a group who have became a fortress that is not quite right. Who will survive and is the others friends? Great story.

Okay

Not the series for me. The story doesn’t work for and how things keep happening so fast with no reason. Entirely too much sex and quick hook ups. The dead are walking, who really has time for so much sex.

honestly the only decent part of this book was the mc FINALLY calling out her shitty boyfriend (it only took him SLAPPING her??) and even then it was barely a call out. Also not really a fan of the subtle anti-abortion undertones?

I’m convinced these reviews have been paid for.

You think the series can’t get any worse, it just did!

The more I read, the more I hate the characters. I am hoping they get better but I’m probably wishing on a star.

Spoiler alert.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I am still trying to figure out why the author felt it was necessary to have Boggs abuse Zoe and then break em up so to speak. I can understand why Zoe felt the way she did with what Boggs did to her, but to have Gus and Zoe betray Boggs and Em by sleeping together? That wasnt right.
I am liking the direction about the runner zombies and how Zoe can read there mind or sense them most of the time. It gives this book a twist from normal zombies that just eat brains. The roamers are the slow normal ones who are led by the runners.
Overall, I highly recommend this book as well as all the others in this series. If you are a zombie fan or fanatic, I think you will really like this. It has some romance, a little violence, and some passionate scenes.

This is the next book in the series. When I enjoyed this book, it had a lot of twists in the series. Really good book. I thought it was a bit better than the first one that is for sure. It was really good. I would recommend anyone who is in the mood for zombies to read the book.

Overall, A good book! One I really enjoyed!

Once again, Lauryl Lewis has delivered another amazing book! I am frustrated at the fact that I am breezing through the books. You just can't put the book down!
The twists and turns in this story leaves my jaw dropping more times than I can count! I was heartbroken over Kelsey. I was really angry with Zoe for not being able to sense a Runner by Kelsey. I'm assuming the pregnancy is messing with her being able to sense the "walking dead".
I really like Boggs but I am rooting for Gus and Zoe. Zoe's character is a bit annoying at times. The way she acts/reacts, you'd guess her to be about 5 years old. All the other female characters are much more mature than Zoe. It's nice having other female characters because if Zoe was the only one, I would have lost my mind a long time ago. Susan annoyed me at first because she was so rude and out of line but as I read on, I really like her as well as Emilie. Nathan's character fits so well with the others. He is amazing with Abbey and Jane!
When the story is in a climactic moment. I am right there with it, then all of a sudden at times, I have lost that moment due to typos or an incorrect word placed within the sentence. It breaks me out of that amazing zone I'm in because it makes no sense then I have to go back and read the sentence again to realize what it should have said. The book is amazing! It really is! I just wish when I am so deep into the story, that it isn't broken due to typos, etc.
Looking forward to book 3 in the series. When you think that a book, written in a series would lose its excitement, think again. I find so far that Lauryl will not disappoint.

This is book two this three part series. The third book will be released in early 2013. All I can say is WHEN????

Book 2 takes up exactly where the first ended, so it doesn't feel like you need to re-read or have missed anything. Perfect for a back to back marathon! <---me.

My biggest complaint in the last book was the lack of more characters to add to their little "survive the zombies" group. This book brings in more people...but no one is safe. Central characters are plucked off by zombies and properly disposed of by a shot to the head (we know this, fellow TWD followers! ONE head shot and BOOM, dead!). No one is safe...the book even goes into (as well as the last one) dialogue between two main lovers "this feels like the last time I'll ever make love to him...". WHAT??? Is he being killed off??? Is SHE?? Total mind fuck.

So the small group from the first story finds another small group and thus the adventure begins...

There isn't a lot I can say without giving away major spoiler, but trust me, this book is faster paced than book one and has more twists that some will love and others will, ehhh. The ehhh crowd can go back to Nora Roberts. This is an Apocalyptic zombie book where pretty much all the current "rules" of how we feel or should act are thrown out the window. We're all adults (I think).

I finished Grace Lost and Tainted Grace both within two days because I couldn't put them down. I am really impressed with how Tainted Grace played out. The enemies keep changing and it kept me hooked wondering what foe they were going to face next. I was completely caught off gaurd by the love triangle that emerged in this book, but I can't say that I was disappointed with it. I think it's going to be interesting to see what happens with it! The characters feel real, and if it wasn't for all the zombies, I think the story would feel real too. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved every minute of it. I can't wait for Dark Grace.

As the survivors get acquainted with the apocalypse we see that not everything is black and white. Zombies are evolving and now Zoe is the only one that could know what to do. As Zoe and Adma pick up more survivors (Dumb and Dumber) we see the dynamics changing from relationships to the outside world.

I know I rate this as a 4 star and yes it is really good that it keeps your attention and you have this need to find out what happens.

The story is brilliantly written with the changing zombies and the outside influences constantly changing. However the characters have their own little drama going and I swear for a zombie apocalyspe going on these people love drama.

I enjoyed this book. I had fallen in love with the first and for some reason I didn't enjoy this one quite as much. I thought the story itself was good.

I was hoping to see Zoe grow a little stronger in this book but felt that she still seems very helpless at times. I tried to write it off in my head that she is young but there are younger characters in the book who seem to be faring better than she is.

I love Gus. I think he is such a strong character. Without him this would be a much more boring story.

Overall I did enjoy the story and have started reading the 3rd book in the series already.

Would have rated this higher except for THAT disappointing plot twist. I was hell-bent on liking the MC a lot. But right now, I'm really struggling to convince myself on finishing the book because she's got very little self control. I find myself constantly rooting for Emilie and thinking she'd make a much better MC than Zoe.

Other than that, the story is very fast-paced and keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. But sadly, I fell "out of like" with Zoe. She already started out dumb, weak and dependent on book one. Which is ok with me because I'm not overly-fond of the too-tough and nasty UF heroine characters. But goodness, where did your conscience go girl?
