River Prescott has everything she's ever wanted—except perhaps a man. The unconventional ranch owning artist is very certain she doesn't want a husband. But sometimes she can't help wishing for a lover; especially after her new neighbor trespasses and she gets a full frontal view of his assets.

Edge Grayson moves onto the rundown spread he's inherited, expecting to stay aloof from nearby town business. But between local artist, River Prescott's determination to seduce him and protecting her from a killer on the prowl, the ex-gunslinger is finding respectability a lot more dangerous than his former life of sin.

I would describe this as a well-written Western "dime" novella of romance (which is akin to those old Harlequins LOL) that offers the unlikely 19th century heroine, who is uncharacteristically independent and bold, and the unlikely gentleman, who is painted with a brush as well as painted with a more interesting backstory than his heroine.

Gem Sivad is a good writer, but (IMO) never quite finishes her stories to satisfaction, at least this reader's satisfaction. Also, I like her for her ability to depict Western and include some hotness in her romance scenes. However, this little quickie is absent the hotness and provides less description of the Western setting than I like.

This is the start of Sivad's Western Romance series titled Unlikely Gentlemen, and I'd say from the looks of it, it is unlikely that I'll any future installments.

Doesn't mean I'd not read anything else from Sivad. Her Eclipse Heat series, especiallyPerfect Strangers, is one that I've read and liked.

Ms Sivad has the ability to take the reader back in time to live with her characters. I love when authors write so well that this happens.

River has to fight for what is hers in an era where women are seen and not heard. This is not who River is and she sets out to show the men just that. They assume she can be intimidated enough that she'll leave her property for them to swoop in and claim...NOT! You'll love her.

Edge enters the story via a letter he's received to claim property left to him and the locals don't like that he's there, nor do they like intruders.

This makes for a great story line and when these two characters meet, they work together to show the town just what they're made of. This book has been nominated for a RONE Award and your can get your vote in until March 16th over at the site for InD'Tale Magazine - click on the "Fun Stuff" tab!

The old west would have been a hoot with this pair!

River is so not a demure miss and Edge is no one's idea of a gentleman but they suit each other to a T.

Western romance of this type is fun, surprisingly refreshing and makes me glad for the modern conveniences we take for granted.

Glad to have found this short free read and can bet that River's friends stories are just as enjoyable.

This as good as novellas come for me. I do want to preface my review with the notion that this books subject matter may not interest everyone, so take my five stars and do what you want with them. If you are into art and intellect mixed with a little naked cowboy then definitely pick this Kindle freebie up!

Edge and River's characters are so spot-on, along with Ms. Sivad's dedication to accuracy in writing makes this novella a must read for fans of the genre. I enjoyed the antics of River, the smug attitude of Edge and all the encounters in between. I enjoyed the way they interacted, the suspense and ultimate conclusion for these two characters.

The fact that it was a novella and easily readable in one night's sitting was another plus for me. Sometimes you need something quick and spicy to satisfy your pallet. I never felt like Ms. Sivad was rushing us and I was left satisfied in the end.

It is amazing how Gem writes these books.

this is the story of River, a gal who know's what she wants and goes after it. She's an artist, a painter and she spends a lot of time out on the prairie, drawing, then painting.
Meet Edge, he's a former gunslinger, who has inherited some land from a grandfather he never knew. Tired of his old profession, he travels to look over his land.
River finds a new subject to draw/paint. He is unaware that he is being watched. Finally, they meet in town and things progress. Enter the town bully and this story gets real interesting.
There is not a lot of sex in it, this story is nicely told. Thanks Gem for a nice western romance.

This book was really cute, fun, and for me a quick read. Edge I just fell in love with him, "I'd rather peeping-toms didn't watch me bathe. It appears we all get disappointed sometimes." River I just loved her as well, "I'm out sketching today," she told him, waving at her satchel. "I brought you fresh bread." The two things had nothing to do with each other other. She was a nincompoop." This book was so light hearted. Amos he was a sweetheart as well, "hell, I know that. It's River I'm worried about. She looked at you over Sunday dinner like you're a dollop of ice cream she wants to have for dessert. Don't give into her. Don't let her have a lick until she buys the cow."

This book is so developed with twists and unexpected turns, I never saw some of them coming until it was right there. All of the characters are very strong and fill this book full of emotions. Love, sadness, fear, confusion, happiness, sex and humor! So well written you will not be able to lay it down. I highly recommend this read as one that will release your mind from all of the tension from the day. Enjoy a good read, pick up this book and relax.

Historical Western romance with a mature artist that finds love with her new unconventional neighbor.
River Prescott has saved her father's land with the money she earns with her landscape paintings and is very much a spinster because all of the men in town are macho and selfish. One day while painting at her favorite spot she spies on Edge Grayson who is hard at work fixing the fences between their land and then gets naked to cool off in the nearby stream. River gets an eyeful of the first fully naked man in her 29 years and then they eventually fall for each other as they paint and become good neighbors.
The nasty evil neighbor wasn't needed in the story but it did push up the timeline of their marriage. HEA guaranteed and part of series about independent smart ladies in the West, but a total stand alone book.

I've read many of her books and have enjoyed all of them so far. This one though just left me flat. I'm going to keep going in the series though as I'm hoping this book was just an exception.

An entertaining romance.

A unique meeting for the couple and a sweet romance following that. I liked the characters and story. I liked that the heroine was a bit older and an artist. Gave a fun spin on the character and how the story moves along. The hero also had an interesting backstory and storyline.

Everything really got tied up in a bow very quickly at the end. I don't want drama to go on too long, but this was almost fixed too easily. But it's a romance and a HEA. I can't complain too much.

There are some sexual situations that may offend readers.

Gem Sivad is one of my favorite authors and her storytelling style is so enjoyable for me to read. I liked this little novella and I liked all the sexual tension in it. Just to be clear, there is no sex in this story, but there is plenty of tension throughout their interactions. What kept this from being 5 stars for me was the actions at the end seemed hurried. The novella was the right length, it was just not as full as it could have been. I would have liked to seem some of the events fleshed out a little more. Good story, though, and I've always had a soft spot for Edge and River since Six Sentence Sunday. :)

Really enjoyed this fairly short (115 pages) story. It was out of the ordinary and querky enough to be entertaining and fun. No, it's nothing like real life but that is okay. There is enough to keep in grounded. If the author is anything like the female main character, there would always be a sense of energy around her. Someone I would enjoy picking her thoughts.

I'm really unsure about rating for this one, there is open sexual conversation but is in no way erotic. I would let my teen read it :)

A good western historical romance.
It makes a nice change that our heroine is a very independent woman who owns her property . She earns enough money not to have to worry, and doesn't need or want a husband. Our hero was a gunslinger, but has inherited a ranch. He want peace and quiet. You know there is trouble on the horizon, but the resolution is not what you expect.
A short but entertaining read.

I wanted to like this book.ad I did mostly. There were some
descriptive sexual words that I was uncomfortable with. Some bad words I can handle but descriptions of sex act I don't like, otherwise it was a cute humorous book.
