Surviving an EMP when you're not a Navy SEAL or a prepper. Ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.
Nick Mercator is in the Medical Center recovering from injuries when a large, powerful group shows up at the gates. They've heard about Tabernacle and they want in, and on their own terms. Still reeling from the Armory raid by the defectors, the rulers of the camp are in no position to put the newcomers in their place. The best they can do is to hide their weakness.
Nick knows where their stolen arsenal is and how to get it back. Still worried about being banished, he agrees to go on a dangerous mission to recover it. While they're at it, they'll try to solve a serious problem in Dewey's hometown.
This time, maybe redemption will count for something...
I read book 4 a while ago so it took me a bit to remember who all of the characters were and what had happened. I do rather like some of the discussion on the particulars of survival. There were some minor editing issues. Example: At one point Sarah seems to be speaking and there are proper quotation marks, but no actual verb. In another place "They never saw as coming" should be an us and not an as. This seems to be mostly a Nick redemption arc, and though he can be on the unlikable side, he isn't necessarily wrong about the rigidity of the Tabernacle leadership. I will be interested to see how accepting the new group changes the community dynamics.
