Neither Trent nor Sasha ever expected their peaceful lives to change. But when Trent is betrayed by the woman he loves and expelled from Earth's corporate ruled society, and Sasha is forced from her home on Planet Tidelia, to join the ruthless arena of galactic politics, they'll find themselves entangled in a conflict that will change their lives...and the future of Earth...forever.

Long Synopsis:
Trent Marcello's life has turned from bad to worse. Learning of his girlfriend's betrayal, he falls into a pit of despair, his world shattered, thinking it impossible for his life to become any worse. But it quickly does as he finds himself jobless, his home and family gone, the few corporations that now rule Earth, treating him like an outcast, rejecting his pleas for employment without review. Having no other choice, he leaves traditional society behind, to live the life of a hobo, following the tracks that countless others have walked before. Except his new life doesn't last long and he is soon caught up in a series of bizarre trials, conducted by a secret organization, that could cost him his very life.

Meanwhile, far from Earth, living the noble life of luxury on the paradise planet, Tidelia, Sasha, the beautiful third Princess of NHA galaxy 189, spends her idle days with her best friend and lady-in-waiting, Tiana. But these days come to an end when an unexpected gift from her father, King Johan, flips her life upside down, sending her on a journey to the other side of the galaxy to be crowned ruler of the newly created sovereign duchy...Alutia...which just happens to include governorship of the special protectorate of Earth.

Join Trent and Sasha as they learn the realities of their new worlds, experience the political trials and tribulations of a universe unknown to one, and unexpected to the other. Travel on a journey of sorrow and loss, of redemption and love, of hope within darkness....an adventure that leads to a discovery that will change their lives, and the future of Earth...forever.

Here's a little Q&A that will help me explain this book to you:

Q: What was the plot?
A: An Earthling named Trent starts an interstellar war by getting drunk. Eventually he marries a hot alien and gets new arms.

Q: What genre is this?
A: Space romance.

Q: How many facial expressions are there in this book?
A: Three, consisting of sympathetic face, stoic face, and smirking. Smirking is the dominant facial expression in Alutia Rising, by far.
Fun fact: NHA females appear to have adopted the sassy-and-I-know-it attitude, by and large (as in, when they aren't crying), in their day-to-day interactions with each other, be it during a space battle, an awards ceremony, or while just frolicking about naked in their quarters. Smirking, of course, is the perfect accompaniment to and expression of this carefree attitude.

Q: How long does it take the characters to develop strong and irrational emotions about people and things?
A: I hardly think deciding you hate someone with all your being after 1.2 Earth minutes qualifies as "irrational."

Q: What was the purpose of that catillian thing?
A: Oh, that was to make sure you thought about Sasha's breasts every time the story focuses on her (Trent fulfills this role later and we sort of forget about the cat alien for a while), because, come on, nobody really wants to read about a woman's thoughts when they could be thinking about her "bosom." (Props to the author for the awkward vocabulary, btw. Just say boobs and call this a space porno already.)

Q: How long did it take Sasha and Trent to get married "in the eyes of the Emperor" after first meeting?
A: Like 3 hours. I don't know about you, but every successful couple I've witnessed has waited at least 4 hours after meeting before passionately declaring their undying love and then awkwardly groping each other as they try to escape an enemy-held base, ideally without dying.

Q: What shape are the spaceships in Alutia Rising?
A: This is an important question and one that the author himself answers many, many times over the course of 355 pages, due to their complicated design. Personally, I don't find the concept of rectangular-shaped things all that difficult to comprehend, but maybe I'm just special.

Q: Will many people of little import die over the course of this story?
A: Yes. Yes, they will.

Surprising

I was involved with most of the characters. Even the adversary's had what they believed were good reasons for their actions.
