Ellen blossoms under Ash's tutelage in the ways of the world, and soon longs for lessons in love from the exotically handsome man. Her desires soon blaze into a conflagration as Ellen realises she can take her destiny into her own hands.
Ellen soon has a proposition for Ash: take her as his mistress and teach her the ways of the world.
Ash has a counter-proposal: dare to take him as her husband, and live the life she has always dreamed of, even if it means defying all of upper-class English society by marrying an outsider.

The only witness to the crime is a handsome young man who gives him a lovely miniature of the most beautiful woman Alistair has ever seen, and sends him to The Three Bells tavern and brothel.
Viola Morrison, an impoverished gentlewoman, lives in a secret room in the brothel, hidden there by her brother Sebastian, who fears his dubious business associates would be even more of a danger to her than the ladies of the evening.
When Alistair comes to seek Viola, she is determined to help the attractive barrister discover the truth about who really killed his client.
When Alistair’s house and office go up in flames, Viola and her mysterious friend George realize there is far more at stake than simply bringing a murderer to justice... WORD COUNT=83,000
A 3 because I like the series, not particularly this book
So I'm disappointed in this one. The first story, Lawrence was a mean bas****, and Mathew's sister after the first night (jumping into bed with him), was a scared little mousey doormat. Not to mention more than half the story was the description of tea and the history of it. I can't tell you how many pages I skipped over on account of that. Next, Ash, all grown up now and well experienced, but yet still a virgin. Ellen is naive and jittery. They spend time together as friends, then fall in love. Knowing exactly what a liar and a conniving b**** her sister Georgina is, Ellen allows her to tear apart Ash and herself. Fast forward to after the marriage. They're so in love that they wait well over a month to consummate their marriage? She needed to go that slow with the man she was so in love with? Charlotte made a hell of a stir and started a feud between all the friends, which was as stupid as herself. I never did like her. I could go on, but that's enough spoilers for the ones who will still attempt to read this. Again, more than half of this story was about his Indian heritage, the myths, the gods, his religion, the beliefs, on and on. Really, I thought I was reading a romance novel, not a history on a country I have no particular interest in one way or the other. Last but not least, Alistair Grant's story. Seriously, I had to drag myself through this one. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not get into this story. I put it down a few times, even read a couple different books in between start and finish of this one. But in the end, I had to make myself finish it. If you're a fan of this series, then I suggest you trug through it as I have. You'll no doubt need to read this for the next one. I'm on to the next installment, but I stand by what I said. This is the first out of the five that I had to make myself read.
