Sinclair Jeffries thought she knew what she was getting into when her zany, gay friend, Jesse Eddington, talked her into portraying his girlfriend during his parent's anniversary party on Huntington Beach. That is, until she met Reed, Jesse's sexy as hell older brother, and ends up getting much more than what she'd bargained for.

Reed Eddington assumed his future was settled until he met Sinclair, his brother's so-called "girlfriend," but the raw, sexual tension between them is hard to ignore. As he watches their ruse from the sidelines, he finds himself wanting to uncover more than just their amusing little facade.

Due to sexual content and heavy subject matter, this book is recommended for ages 18+.

I am a wife and mother of two girls, Cassie and Allie. I live in Minnesota and, yes, our winters are legendary! I believe this has a lot to do with my passion for reading and writing, which is something I'd like to make a full time career of sometime in the future. Right now my days are filled with chasing after children in my daycare but at night I chase after my dreams of becoming a popular writer. Most of my books are written with young adults in mind but I am ecstatic when I hear that readers of all ages enjoy them. It's a great motivator and pushes me to keep writing, even when I'm exhausted from wiping noses all day long!

My feelings on this story - LOATHE, HATE, DESPISE.
description

One dimensional, shallow, pathetic characters - cliches of a cliches.
Slut shaming, girl-on-girl hate, sexist, borderline homophobic, awful plot blah blah....

The Characters:

Heroine: poor, little, uneducated, average me Hair Stylist. She's adopted - Poor Orphan Annie.
description

Hero: tall, dark, handsome, OLD MONEY rich, annoying playboy of the model/ actress dating type. A lawyer - because despite his daddy's OLD money he needs to have a job outside the family firm. No morals, no principles. All the women he meets are after his money, or his father's connections, are shallow, $luts... UNTIL HE MEETS THE HEROINE!!!!! Additionally, apparently he's always busy with his court cases (I think he's in Criminal law- not a Corporate lawyer as I'd assume - so either he's thinking of becoming a politician or the author didn't realise that type of law pays peanuts and most rich boys circulate the Corporate sector).
description

Also he posses a self-righteous "I'm so IMPORTANT and busy- my clients need me" attitude.
Additionally, apparently he's in the papers due to his playboy showbiz-dating lifestyle (he even had an ex gf spread rumours about him being an unsteady alcoholic womaniser) - at 27 years old (still making his career) that doesn't bode well for his legal career - it's suicidal in fact. This author really doesn't know much about professional conduct.
description

Gay Friend: formulaic gay recipe of b*tchy, camp, into fashion, pretty with blond highlights - basically he's not a manly man because he's gay and has to follow a cliche (and because every cliched Heroine requires a CAMP camp friend who's bi&tchy). He's the hero's brother - but unlike the manly, brave hero he's frightened to come out of the closet.
description
Hero's Mother: snobby, judgmental, cold, shallow, poor manners (because rich people despite all those finishing schools aren't well bred- that's sarcasm btw), and uncaring because that's how rich mothers are.

Hero's father: rich, shallow, immoral, pervy and a casting director of the cliched sleazy type (because rich people have no depth to them- all that moeny you know)

Hero's fiancee: rich, shallow, $lutty, immoral, bimbo, conniving, after-hero's-connections, a top Paris fashion model who thinks everyone above a size 0 is fat (because all rich girls and models are like this - only poor girls can have the moral high ground)
Also the Camp gay Friend said his parenst wanted him to have a serious career (lawyer or doctor) like his lawyer brother (their darling) but that doesn't make sense since the father is in showbiz?

Baddie: typical cliched baddie. Won't say more but it's obvious who it is.

This book had been sitting on my Audible 'to-read/listen' shelf for quite a long time. Since the length was pretty close to the length of my road trip today, I figured I'd finally give it a go.

For the most part, I liked the story. It was straightforward and kept my interest. Sinclair, Jesse and Reed were nice enough characters. However, all of the other main characters were pretty despicable. No wonder Jesse detests his parents! Ugh! The fact that Sinclair was willing to subject herself to them for Jesse's sake tells me that she is a great friend.

Just when things started to heat up between Sinclair and Reed, Michael makes an appearance, throwing the story off-kilter. I think the story would have been far more enjoyable without the introduction of a weirdo, wack-job stalker/kidnapper. It just seemed forced and unnecessary. At the very least, it was distracting.

All in all, it was an okay story to pass time. It wasn't one that will stick with me, bad or good.

Not Safe. I almost did not finish and wish I'd just chucked it at the 20% mark like I originally wanted too, because it just got worse.

H has a fiance that he is in lust with. She is a horrible person but apparently so hot and gives great bjs and is a wild cat in bed *gag* that the H is willing to put a ring on it?!?! While he is happily engaged to OW he flirts and kisses the h, because you know, he isn't "in love" with his fiance and the h is just so hot!

Nope. Not cool.

The h isn't must better since she knows about the fiance and lets lust cloud her judgement and her "body's needs" are so powerful they turn her into a needy spineless pile of mush whenever the H is around.

One kiss I might have been able to ignore but they both knowingly cheat more than once and neither one redeemed themselves in my eyes. I didn't care that the fiance was a disgusting cheater too, cheating it cheating and it's effed up. It made both the MCs and the secondary characters douchebags.

Even after skimming and making it all the way to the end, the MCs were still annoying and shallow and so many things were left hanging that the story felt incomplete. The fact that the fiance is never caught cheating by the H, even though it was so obvious was frustrating and the H's break up happens off page which made it lack a true feeling of closure, the h doesn't find out about it until a month later.

The stalker/killer plot line was also pretty sloppy! He is never caught and the book literally ends with his POV as he obsesses over some other poor hairdresser! WTF. It was like no one cared that there was a killer on the loose since the h wasn't his intended target anymore. Mega eye-rolling was happening here.

I would not recommend. Thank the book gods it was a freebie!

Ugh... this story is ridiculous. There is no substance to the story. The ending really isn't an ending. It was just a waste of time. It was seriously a chore to finish this book.

Entretenido, bueno para pasar el rato. 2.5

ok this was a really great quick read for me..I finished it in just a few hours because I literally couldnt put it down. It kept me interested from cover to cover and had a great storyline and characters..it was something different for me and right now thats just what I needed. A quick change of pace:)
I loved the characters in this book. Reed was freaking hawt! lol and I gotta say Sinclair was my kind of girl..she doesnt hold back what she is thinking...yea I have a problem with that too:) Her and Reed are just great together and I was cheering them on the entire time! Sela on the other hand..I have to admit I wouldnt have been as nice as Sin was..I would've probably b**ch slapped her from the start! Really I mean who cheats on REED!!!! GRRRRRR....And Jesse, ok well I know he is gay but come you have to admit he sounds pretty hot himself;) Might need to try and turn that boy straight..lol. All in all I thought this was a well written book that kept me wanting more the entire time and I think anyone who likes a hold your breath, just waiting for it to happen love storie/drama would really like this.

I did however read this in 2013 but when in a book funk what better way to do than a reread. Glad I did.

I like this book. I thought it had an interesting storyline. It wasn't what I expected but it's worth a read.

I have to say the characters are great especially Sinclair, Jesse and Reed. Now at first I was a bit confused at the Prologue but as you continue reading you'll understand it more. I fell for Reed right away even though he was already taken (always thinking with down below but hey he knew in the end) but his chemistry with Sinclair was definitely hot and Jesse how can you not love him he's the epitome of BFFs. Now, the other characters you'll get to really really cringe at, say hello to Sela (said ex-fiancée of Reed's) but I won't go on cause over the period of two days Reed and Sinclair felt their bond move onto something more and as good as the story is I wished that the ending could have been a little more in depth of Reed and Sinclair's relationship.

This book started strong but then the constant POV changes, kind of killed it, not too mention the sudden appearance of the creepy stalker guy.
Sinclair is a hair stylist and her gay friend Jessie asks her if she will go to his parents home with him and pose as his girlfriend, because his parents think he is straight. She agrees. Its where she meets the super, hot, brother,Reed.
Reed is engaged to a nasty, obnoxious woman.
When he meets Sinclair the attraction is instant, neither one of them can deny it. But Reed is engaged and Sinclair has morals and would never step over the line. But when Sinclair catches Reed's fiance naked with his stepfather, doing the nasty, all bets are off.
Reed escorts Sinclair to a bathroom in the kitchen when things between the two get pretty heated, only to be interrupted by his mother calling out to him for help. Reed makes Sinclair promise to meet him later. What happens next?

The Premise
The heroine, Sinclair Jeffries, agrees to play girlfriend for her gay friend Jesse during his parent's anniversary party. She then meets Reed, Jesse's brother, and of course, they have an instant attraction, which is immediately complicated by his witchy supermodel fiance. There's a couple of other things going on that but that's the main story. I think.

The Good
Pretty sure I got this for free, which was nice.

*blinks* yeah, some funny parts, and frustrated almost sex scenes…..hmmm. Oh and I read through it pretty quickly. That’s about it.

The Bad
Honestly having an issue thinking of what is good about this. It’s like 3 different stories, all intersecting at this party, but it’s really, just a holy hot mess.

There’s a secondary (or is it the third plot?) where Sin’s being stalked by crazy man that climaxes earlier than I thought and in a very unsatisfying way. It almost made me wonder why it was even thrown into this story, since there was enough going on between Sin and Reed’s attraction, Jesse hiding his sexual orientation, Reed’s skanky, cokewh*re of a fiance and his messed up mom and stepdad. The characters are so stereotypical, and there’s a desperate need for some focus.

The Bottom Line
I didn’t hate it. But I wouldn’t recommend it

THIS BOOK

This was such a poor plot twist. The characters were so fickle, their personalities were changed now and then, and some of them didn't have any transcendence. The "villain" was so stupid, the writer didn't put much thinking about it. The conversations between them were so vague and short

DID NOT LIKE IT AT ALL!

Meh... That's what this one left me with. It was an ok story. I didn't dislike it. I just didn't love it. It had all of the ingredients to be amazing though and they just weren't used and mixed in a way that was most advantageous in my very humble opinion. Maybe it's just me though.

I've actually read this twice. I remember enjoying it. It was a cute and fun read.
There's a lot of negative reviews about this book & while I understand it isn't a 'Great' read, I don't understand all the 1 star rantings.
It's low angst, low drama, a couple of 'Laugh out Loud' moments and a lot of 'Grin' moments.
Very little to take seriously. Just a fun quick read.

Let me start with the story itself. I loved this book. I LOVED the easy friendship between Jesse and Sinclair. It was easy to hate Sela and Jack, and maybe even Mimi, and it was easy to love Reed, especially after getting to know Sela. Michael was an interesting twist to the story, especially toward the end of the book when I just knew everyone was being too naive if they believed that little sub-plot was really finished. I'm curious to see if it is continued in any way in the sequel to this book (Tangled Mess).

As for my thoughts on the writing and the quality of the book? As mentioned in several other reviews I've read, there were a few errors in it that were missed in editing, and there were a few bits of the plot that I didn't entirely agree with (there is a running thread of infidelity through the different storylines), but the overall story was cute and the attraction between Reed and Sinclair was entirely believable.

The dialogue between the various characters felt real and natural, and I found myself laughing out loud even during the more suspenseful parts of the story. Clearly, Ms. Middleton has a fun and perky sense of humor, which comes through in the writing and the characters. I found this book to be refreshing, entertaining, and a pleasure to read. Not to mention ... the sexy scenes? S to the EXY, you guys. Seriously. That scene in the back hallway off the kitchen? Woah.

Sinclair has a friendship with Jesse which could be admired. Even though she has only known him for around 6 months, the connection was instant. Agreeing to "play" along with Jesse's charade, Sinclair gets a little more than she bargains for at his parents anniversary party.

Jesse is a gay man who is afraid to fully let his parents know his sexual orientation. Hearing his parents berate and judge other people like him is enough to make him fearful. With that said, he pleads with Sinclair to accompany him to his parent's anniversary as his date. Funny things happen with him and Sinclair as they keep this farce going; until something happens that brings it all crashing down!

Reed is Jesse's brother and the apple of his parent's eye. Reed is engaged to a model, but he is not happy. From the moment that he lays eyes on Sinclair, he is mesmerized. Things get a little hot and heavy for these two very quickly, and it takes him losing Sinclair to realize how much he really NEEDS her in his life.

This book is a good read. I enjoyed reading it while I was sitting in the doctors office yesterday. I did notice a few minor mistakes, but never the less, it was a good story with a great plot.

Terribile.
Vergognosissima traduzione.

NB: Evidently I read Tangled Beauty before, back in 2014 as part of Tidal Wave but as I have no memory of that, had no sense of deja vu during the read AND had a decidedly different opinion this time round, here goes my circa 2018 review. **MILD SPOILERS AHEAD**

Tangled Beauty is a tangled mess of sleazy men, stereotypes and weird roadblocks. I loved Jessie ("the gay BFF") but he is such a stereotype of a camp gay man it's verging on offensive. The "hero" is a conceited ladies' man. The model girlfriend is a spoiled brat who uses her body to get what she wants, takes drugs and only eats spinach. The mother is a cold isolated rich snob. The father is an overweight showbiz sleaze who is lucky his antics were pre the MeToo movement. The villain is schizophrenic because of course he is. Aren't all rapey stalkers who like having their hair cut schizophrenic? Aren't all schizophrenics rapey stalkers who like having their hair cut? I wish authors wouldn't portray mentally ill people as dangerous criminals when it has no evident relevance to the plot. And is it not enough of a roadblock for a romance novel to have the heroine posing as the hero's brother's girlfriend? Do we really have to have a stalker just to make it that bit sweeter when the two inevitably end up together? UGH.

Oh boy, here we go again.
So here's that same story y'all know and are most likely sick of by now: It was late at night, I was bored and insomniac, I found a Kobo freebie. Fast forward one day and here I am, ready to rant. Let's get right into it shall we?

Okay so Tangled Beauty (honestly wtf is this name? It's so ridiculous I laugh every time I read it) is supposed to be a romance/thriller/mystery. But the thing is, there is literally no romance, no mystery and absolutely no thrill at all!

Let me sum it up to you folks:
-Sinclair is a hair stylist, she's drop dead gorgeous with amazing red hair and the right curves in the right places yada yada, y'all know the drill; she's basically perfect.
- She has a gay best friend (who talks like one of the Mean Girls mind you, because god forbids a gay guy speaks normally) and ofc his parents are so uptight, so naturally, he doesn't come out to them.
- The parents are holding a party for their wedding anniversary so Jesse (the best friend) asks Sinclair to pretend to be his girlfriend in front of his parents..
- For the record, Jesse has an older (incredibly hot ofc) brother named Reed.
- They get there and they're about to have dinner when dun dun DUUUUUN Reed shows up. Naturally, Sinclair devours him with her eyes because he's hot beyond belief. God forbids one of those characters isn't hot or sexy or whatever.
- Oh one more detail, Reed is ENGAGED to a model named Sela. And as you guessed it, she's a sore pain in the ass.
- As the non-story goes on (yes I'll be calling it a non-story because it lacks everything that could possibly make a bunch of words a story) we get suffocated by the sexual tension between Sinclair and Reed. We also get to see how much of an assholes the father, Jack is.
- Reed asks Sinclair to trim his hair and after so much sexual tension they make out. (Yes, the dude is still engaged, in fact his fiancée is literally a few rooms away but hey! He's hot so we won't hold it against him).
- Sinclair and Jesse go out shopping and then have lunch and they're joined by Reed, then Jesse gets a call from Alex (who btw happens to be his boyfriend AND boss) and gets upset over it so he decides to leave the other two alone.
- As you've probably guessed it; the sexual tension is unbearable by this point.
- They get home and Sinclair sees JACK and SELA having sex! (Because what's a non-story if it doesn't include cheating partners and an older asshole who's into much younger girls am I right?) but before she gets to tell Reed about it Jack threatens her.
- The party is finally upon us *insert hallelujah gif here* and ofc Sinclair wears a RED dress that makes her look irresistible. AND OF COURSE, some random guy hits on her and she gets "rescued" by Reed (can you hear me rolling my eyes?) THEN they start making out and shit.
- They get interrupted by his mother and Sinclair starts roaming around the house and ends up in the Library, where she finds Sela putting her clothes back on and she says something about her and Reed finishing or whatever.

Anyways.
Remember how I mentioned in the start of this review that this book is supposed to be a mystery/thriller? Yeah well at this point we're 80% into the book and all we got is horrible sexual tension, some makeout sessions, and a lot of descriptions of how hot Reed is and how sexy Sinclair is.
Oh, and we get some random chapters from this guy called Michael who was obviously stalking Sinclair. But they're tiny and add literally nothing to the non-story except telling us Sinclair had a stalker.

Here's what happens next:
- The Pastor who the parents called to help them renew their vows asks her for help.
- He kidnaps her.
- Dun dun duuuuun he's the stalker.
- She wakes up, escapes, he finds her, she kicks him in the balls and escapes.

Next thing you know Reed and the rest get a phone call telling them she was okay and she was at the hospital.

I beg your pardon oh-gracious-writer but I had no idea that the moment you include a kidnapping (and a mediocre one at that) in your book then it's automatically considered a mystery and thriller book.

Of course after that she's told that the creep got killed in a car accident only to find him in the last chapter creeping over a new hairdresser.

Oh and at the end Reed goes to Sinclair's house, finds her getting ready for a date so he just has sex with her. Because fuck logic that's why.

So to sum it all up this had no plot whatsoever, just some random moments and a lot of sexual tension.
I still don't understand why I put myself through those shitty books tbh but oh well.
