D-Day : A Very Brief History

Rate this book
Want to learn more about history, but don’t think you have the time? Think again.

D-Day was the code name given to the first day of the invasion of Normandy, an invasion that signaled the beginning of the end of the Second World War. The code name was Operation Overlord, and it aimed to dislodge Hitler and his army, who had built a stronghold on Normandy’s shorelines to repel enemy forces.

Several nations participated in what was dubbed the largest amphibious invasion the world had known, and its success was in no small measure due to a detailed series of measures implemented to ensure that Hitler was fooled into thinking that the invasion would occur elsewhere on the French coast. This is the story of the day that changed the course of history.

The Very Brief History series is intended to give the reader a short, concise account of the most important events in world history. Each book provides the reader with the essential facts concerning a particular event or person; no distractions, just the essential facts, allowing the reader to master the subject in the shortest time possible.

With The Very Brief History series, anyone can become a history expert!

Some very avoidable mistakes - George IV instead of George VI - and a very rushed ending. Otherwise, a good introduction

Great snippet of history

Read this as a supplement during our visit to the beaches of Normandy and it contributed greatly to our having more insight into what transpired there.
