Clover Webster and Malcolm Mason are trying to overcome insurmountable odds: Lifelong secrets plaguing both families. The failed, bitter romance between their eldest born. The ghosts of their deceased spouses. Most importantly, the addiction that taints everything it touches. Will Malcolm and Clover be able to forge an unbreakable bond in order to traverse this landmine of a blended family?

Erica Chilson does not write in the 3rd person, wanting her readers to be her characters. Therefore, writing a bio about herself, is uncomfortable in the extreme.
Born, raised, and here to stay, the Wicked Writer is a stump-jumper, a ridge-runner. Hailing from North Central Pennsylvania, directly on the New York State border; she loves the changes in seasons, the humid air, all the mountainous forest, and the gloomy atmosphere.
Introverted, but not socially awkward, Erica prides herself on thinking first and filtering her speech. There are days she doesn’t speak at all. If it wasn’t for the fact that she lives with her parents, giving her a sense of reality, she would be a hermit, where the delivery man finds her months after expiration.
Reading was an escape, a way to leave a not-so pleasant reality behind. Reading lent Erica the courage she gathered from the characters between the pages to long for a different life. Writing was an instrument of change, evolving Erica into the woman she is today- a better, more mature, more at peace thinker.
Erica has a wicked mind, one she pours out into her creations. Her filter doesn’t allow all of it to erupt, much to her relief. Sarcastic, with a very dark, perverse sense of humor, Erica puts a bit of herself into every character she writes.
JUST THOROUGHLY INCREDIBLE! Book 2 in the Blended series adds more ingredients to the already captivating plot but focuses on Clover and Malcolm's lives. You just NEVER know what you're going to get with Erica's stories! It's as if she has a hat filled with different scenarios written on folded tiny pieces of paper that she selects at random and just goes with it. Don't get me wrong, EVERYTHING about Widow is developed to a 'T.' It's AMAZING! The fact that it IS so unpredictable adds that much more to the enjoyment. No other book compares to the honesty, rawness, and emotion that Erica's characters exude. I mean, they are so believable that if one of them were to walk by me on the street, I swear I would be able to identify them by their smell! Widow is based on two mature adults learning to forgive, let go, rediscover and take chances. REAL!!! They work to become a blended family while struggling to deal with hardships day to day life deals them. REAL!!! Both haunted by a past that continues to torment them, that they struggle to overcome. It's entertaining as hell and a DEFINITE PAGE TURNER. Malcolm is THE MAN..... MY GOD, pure PERFECTION!!! LOVE HIM and all that he stands for! And Clover....it's soooo very refreshing to read a book with the female lead in her 30's, imperfect, selfless, strong willed, independent yet beautifully broken. And she gets the guy! HAHAHA Not some needy, 20-something, perfect, virginal empty shell. CLOVER IS F'N AMAZING! The chemistry between Malcolm and Clover is an absolute thrill to read. Humorous, deep, heartfelt and HOT! No joke this book just flows effortlessly. Widow is another building block to the series introducing a few more characters while adding more meat to the current ones. Throughout it gives glimpses of what's to come and OH SWEET JESUS... I AM SO EXCITED!!!! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Since I first read Restraint, Erica Chilson has turned into that author that I get so excited for the next release. Let me just say Widow did not disappoint. We got glimpses of Clover and Malcolm in Good Girl, never the full story only what Willow, Ren or Auggie knew. Seeing life from their POV changes everything I thought I knew. AND I LOVE IT! Widow is not a stand alone and Good Girl is a must read before reading Widow. Widow takes place at the same time as Good Girl, but no worries Erica has this magic that she can write without ever having repetition or overlapping with her scenes.
Clover takes care of everyone else. She is the true backbone of her family. She's raising twin teenagers. She cares for her parent's. She is a widow, losing her husband to cancer. She's not appreciated by anyone least of all her son. She's just so tried. She has secrets and she's made mistakes. But she owns what she has done in the past, owns who she is today.
Malcolm takes care of what is his, it's the John Mason way. He's the police chief, father of 4 teenage children. He's a widower, losing his wife. He craves affection. He's made mistakes. He has secrets. He doesn't understand raising a teenage girl.
When he asks for help with Rae, and Clover acts for advice with Seth the back and forth between them is hysterical. Seeing the lengths Malcolm will go to to get Clover's attention had me cracking up. There was so much real emotion in this book. What I mean is the things that happen, could happen is real life. It maybe fiction but its real emotions that get pulled out while reading and I think it was written so beautifully. Erica takes you through it all. I laughed, I cried, I swear I could feel the pain and angst right along with the main characters.
While Malcolm is truly one of my favorite Alpha males now, I will always have a soft spot for Ren and to be able to see him with Malcolm, watching him truly fall for Willow from that man's POV was honest and real. If this book could go on forever it wouldn't be enough for me. I am so greedy, I want more! The last chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait to find out what happens.

Where do I start?! This book was EVERYTHING I was hoping for, plus some. We were introduced to all the characters in Good Girl, but Widow takes us to the next level. The story runs concurrently with GG, so we get to see different POV's for the same time period. This book alternate between Clover and Malcolm. I thought I knew what was going on from Good Girl, but I knew absolutely nothing - and THIS is the reason I LOVE Erica Chilson's writing. As an author she draws you in, gives you a fantastic story - draws out emotions, and then completely "pulls the rug out from under you". Clover is the matriarch of her brood, having lost her husband to cancer, she's raising teenage twins and feeling totally unappreciated and exhausted. She's coming to terms with her past "mistakes" and learning to live with/from them. Malcolm (mmmm...yeah, he's my new book boyfriend) is the epitome of MAN> Alpha male, police chief, single father of 4, yet he's kind and respectful. He's facing demons of his own, while providing the back-bone his family needs. This story seriously had me feeling the gamut of emotions: I laughed, cried, tensed up, and was elated. You can't help but feel connected to these characters and cheer them on.

LOVED IT!!! Widow was so worth the wait. I would have preferred not to have had to wait so long, but it was worth it. I absolutely loved watching the interplay between Malcolm and Clover as he attempted to court her using romance, gifts, affection, seduction, and guerrilla tactics - seriously Malcolm, what were you thinking with those texts and emails? I enjoy reading books in which the main characters are adults who have lived and experienced enough of life to know what they want and what they don't want. They've made mistakes, taken ownership of their mistakes, and learned from them. This is just one of the reasons I enjoyed Widow so much. Clover and Malcolm are widow and widower, have been single parents for years, and both had marriages they do not wish to replicate. While we may be spared the angst, there is still plenty of conflict and hurdles to overcome for this relationship to succeed.
If you've read Good Girl, then you already know what Clover considers to be her biggest mistake. You will also be aware of what mistake is currently plaguing Malcolm. What will surprise you is that most of Widow occurs during the same time frame as Good Girl (which MUST be read first). If you are a fan of Ms. Chilson's Restraint series, then you won't be surprised that there is actually very little scene overlapping despite the concurrent timeline. When it does occur, it enriches the story by offering a different perspective and giving the reader insight to the characters’ motivation. I was never bored nor felt like the author was recycling previously written material. I believe this is one of Ms. Chilson’s best talents. As a scene is narrated from another point of view, I regularly find myself reconsidering my initial impression - it’s often a “that’s not how it happened” moment, followed by an “I wondered why he/she did that,” which sometimes leads to a “that really worked?” bafflement. It’s thought provoking and forces me to reevaluate what I thought I knew about the character and storyline – and I love books that make me think.
At times, the more I enjoy a book, the harder it is for me to write a review. It’s that tangible “it” factor that is so hard to articulate that makes it difficult. Widow is one of the “it” books for me. I love the characters - they are so real to me that I long to be part of their world. The concurrent storyline between Widow and Good Girl makes it quite enjoyable to learn that the kids weren’t nearly as clever as they thought. Of course, the sex was HOT, but I would expect no less considering the author’s previous writing. In addition to being hot, it was also loving and emotionally satisfying. Having front row seats to enjoy the developing relationship between Malcolm and Clover was thoroughly entertaining as they made me laugh and cry, cringe and squirm, get mad at and for them, and fall in love with them. I’m already looking forward to the next installment in the series so I can enjoy watching as the Masons and Prynnes work to blend their families together even more. Besides, I have to know what happens considering the semi-cliffhanger ending Ms. Chilson gave us.
I reviewed my personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads.
This is the story of our Widow, Clover Webster and our Widower, Malcolm Mason and the blending of their lives and families.
The way Malcolm connects with Clover and tries to woo her is unconventional to say the least. From one point of view it is fun, clever and sexy, from another it is mean and bullying. I confess, early on I wanted to strangle Malcolm just a little. But it is hard to stay mad at a man who doesn't let his ego get in the way of what he wants, a man who puts the needs of his family first and who is so full of love.
Clover has spent her life taking care of others. Her brother, her parents, then her husband and children, always sacrificing her own needs and wants for those around her. Six years since the passing of her husband Sam, Clover is stuck in her life and has not dealt with Sam's death and their toxic relationship. Be prepared for an emotion packed journey. The issues from Clover and Sam's relationship had me in tears time and time again.
While Clover and Malcolm's relationship is our primary focus, there is plenty more to this story. Tracking down Devon to get him to rehab, dramas between Willow and Essie, learning little bits and pieces of the relationship between Auggie, Isis and Rob and the list goes on. Every time we had a glimpse of a secondary character I was left hungry for more of their story.
I first read Widow when it was released in 2014 and it was my favourite book that year. I was nervous about the re-read, worried it wouldn't live up to the memory of that first amazing reading experience. I need not have worried. I loved it just as much the second time around. Reading Widow I laughed and cried, I got mad and frustrated - my emotions were all over the place and I loved every single minute.
Second installment of the Blended Series. I recommend reading Good Girl first! We get Clover & Malcolm's story, Widow and WIDOWER. This series is completely different from anything Erica Chilson has written thus far, enthralling and completely original, like always! Welcome to a new town of deviants!!!
Malcolm and Clover's journey was emotional and heartfelt. I love LOVE MALCOLM! There isn't a thing I could say to explain him, he's PERFECTION. Clover is a strong shell of a person she really wants to be. Like I said, it's emotional. Secrets are revealed, pasts are not what they seem! These two are destined to be together, I'm getting chills writing this. Things always happen for a reason, and I think they went through enough pain. Can they find their future together?
"Without asking for permission, because I have Clover ample warning, I reach over take her hand. I just hope Clover realizes I'm never letting go."
Another homerun for Erica Chilson. You never know what your going to get. I opened the book and held on. I laughed, I cried, I sat smiling at my computer screen like an idiot. You know that feeling you get after finishing a book, the one where you look up and realize you just experienced this AMAZING story, and the rest of the real world is in fog!?!? The framework for the rest of these crazy characters has been set-up, I can't wait to read everyone of their stories!

5+++ glorious stars
This book had me all over the place. I was happy, sad, mad, grateful, and so many other emotions that I can't even list.
The build up in this book was phenomenal.
I was so connected with the characters that I felt like I was there physically.
When Clover hurt I hurt. When Clover was happy I was happy.
Her story and the things this mother has faced is so realistic and not something that is so far fetched that it's unbelievable.
The things that are written happen in real life. Teenage pregnancy. Foul mouthed teenagers. Being a widower and widow at a young age. Unable to deal with death and mourn properly.
These things happen to most people and to have it written in such a way that you can connect to the character shows how well an author truly writes.
Malcolm and Clover have now become my favorite couple. I can't wait to see how the rest of the Blended series by Erica Chilson plays out.

Erica Chilson did it again! this is the second installment of the Blended Series. WIDOW gives you the story of Clover and Malcolm and their journey on becoming a blended family. I'm pretty sure Erica hit every emotion while writing this. Clover, having lost her husband to cancer is raising teenage twins. she is tired and feels unappreciated she made mistakes in her past and is trying her best to cope with them. Malcolm lost his wife to depression, he is left with 4 children to raise on his own, he has also made mistakes in his past and struggles with raising his children alone. Together, as a blended family, they can make this work. Malcolm breaks down Clovers walls and she lets him in! they both NEED each other. This story is raw, emotional and more real than anything Erica has written.

Where to begin... This story totally changed my perspective about Clover, Malcolm, and the entire crew. The backstory about Clover and Sam, Camille and Malcolm, furthered the story more than I would have thought.
Second chances come when you least expect it, and Clover Webster, had no idea of what she was in for. Malcolm Mason has been watching Clover for years and now has her where he wants her.
Trials, tribulations, angst, love, romance, dangerous situations, and betrayal litter the foundation of the Blended series. From the ashes a new family is created and where they go from here, only the author knows and I can't wait to find out.
This review is for the updated edition of this novel.
Following up from Good girl, this book tells the story of the Widow and The Widower. Clover and Malcolm, two characters whose lives already intertwine as their children enter into somewhat complicated relationship. The time arc of this novel runs alongside Good Girl ( recommend reading that first to understand the complicated relationships) up to a point until truths are revealed.
This books delves further into the background and gives a second viewpoint of the adults in the novel. Their past make for some interesting reading and we discover it was not all sunshine and roses with Sam and Clover relationship, nor was it with Malcolm and Camille. But the past made these people, a building block of them now and how they think, interact with each other, their families, neighbours and friends.
Secrets hidden are revealed, children grow up and home truths that shatter are spun. Relationships evolve and a woman finds herself, her heart's desire, her truth and a man find the woman he has been waiting for after a year of patiently learning about how she ticks.
I felt torn open and put back together once this was finished, another book by the author that made me think about my life. I recommend this book for those who are willing to look beyond the surface, those who need shaking up and to those who love long reads that will hook you from start to finish.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and are unbiased.
This is the story of clover a widow who feels under appreciated and under loved and Malcolm who has had to raise what people call a man hore , a pot head and youngsters all by himself all the while having an attraction to clover but not doing anything about it until the kids pick his ear....of course there is twist and turns and the typical writing style we have come to love from ms chilson so if you read her books you can read between the lines so im not posting spoilers
ARC REVIEW From ABIBLIOPHOBIA ANONYMOUS BOOK REVIEWS BLOG
They are the same, both widowed, both with children who are missing the main component in a family... A mom and dad. They each have what the other needs, but can they work as a couple, not just a faucet in a family.
Clover Webster is everything to everyone around her. She's the glue that keeps her family together. God forbid she didn't do what she does and everything would fall apart. We met her in Willow's book Good Girl, but we didn't know who Clover was. No, not by any means. In Widow we see a totally different side of Clover. She hides well. She's lonely, holding onto something that is never going to happen. She's just the ghost of the girl she use to be. But with everything, she still has to be the Clover everyone needs.
"Just once, I want to come first in someones life, even in my own. I want the Liberty to fall and know someone will catch me before I land."- Clover
Malcolm Mason. Damn that man. Malcolm is the police chief, father of 4 and a widower. He's lonely, has been for a long time. Putting his children and work above all else, that includes finding a mate.
Both Clover and Malcolm's significant others left them, one by cancer one by their own hands. They both know what its like to raise a family alone. Not having that special somebody to lean on for support, to hold onto in bed.
With text and emails, a Clover and Malcolm will come to an understanding. Well, Clover will. She will be Malcolm's wife, it will happen. What a crazy person right?!
"I like a bitch. I like messy and chaotic, too. I want you unraveled and writhing beneath me."- Malcolm
These two level each other out, they have what the other has been searching for, but with everything going on around them can they fall into a relationship, or will the pass hold Clover back?
"You're perfect for me, little bitch. I promise you'll never regret me."- Malcolm
"loving you is so easy. It's easy as breathing."- Clover
Widow, where do I start. I had a preconceived notion of Clover, the cold hearted bitch. She had a stick up her ass. Well, wow! There is so much more behind her mask. There are reason that made her who she is. My heart broke for her, it bleed for her. Getting to read about her past, you will too. My stomach rolled. I wanted her to find happiness, she deserves it! This book show us who the real Clover Webster is, and y'all will be surprised! Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm. Damn, that touchy feely big guy is amazing. Why can't all main male characters be like him? This is a character that wants whats best for everyone, not just his self. These two are perfect together, they balance each other. There is a deep connection, speaking of things they never spoke about before to other people. They both grew in this book. There are some super funny parts and serious parts in this book. Clover and Malcolm's back and forth was hilarious!! While the two of them get to know each other we get incite into other things that happen in Good Girl. Like Devon, Willow finding the truth and other big shockers!!!! Okay, I didn't give Erica Chilson the name Plot Queen for nothing, and she weaves the plot for us. I was left with WTF!? No, I need to know what happen and holy crap! If a book leaves you like that, then my friends, its a 5 star read. I need the next book like yesterday. I'm impatiently waiting. ☆☆☆☆☆
As a fan of Erica Chilson I can happily say she has impressed me with Widow! I loved this book and in classic Erica Chilson fashion, she has made me fall in love with these characters. Malcolm and Clover have not had easily lives. They both have the weight of their worlds on their shoulders and are struggling to handle everything on their own. This was a deeper, more emotional tale than we know Erica to write, but I was not at all let down. She had the brutal reality, the touchy subjects, and the true human struggle, but she still included the quirky kinkiness, and blunt humor I love in her books. In this story you could feel the raw, deeper base emotions coming from the writer and flowing through the characters to express basic human need. You see them struggle and want the very best for them, but it's life. Not everything can be planned or expected. Trying to control everything can get you slapped in the face. This book expresses a more realistic and raw side of Erica's writing and it expresses so much growth in her as an author. I am very impressed by this tale and I know at this point I am itching for the next installment from this series that so far has a strong, deep, and truly entertaining framework set out in just the beginning. Thank you Erica! I look forward to every new side of yourself that you show in your writing and like wine, it just keeps getting better! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to read a story that has it all; emotion, romance, quirkiness, humor, lust, struggle, drama, you name it. Happy reading!
Widow is the sequel to Good Girl, so you must read that book prior or you will be totally lost to the characters and the complex relationships. While Malcolm and Clover were introduced in GG, in this installment, we truly learn about their personalities and what makes them tick. These two are such complex characters and I love being in the mind of each; the dual POVs is perfect. Malcolm was an enigma in GG, but so much of his inner thoughts and actions are explained fully in this book. I fell in absolute love with him; which I never could have predicted while reading GG. This is one of the amazing things about this series. On the outside, this group appears over the top and a little crazy even. Erica creates complex and flawed characters then slowly reveals their secrets. Like you and I ,they only want to love and to be loved by their family and those around them.
While there is a small cliffhanger, I didn’t want to throw my Kindle and harm anyone. I am counting down the days for the next book in the series. There are definitely many life altering secrets that are yet to be revealed.
I discovered Erica’s books last December and became addicted. I read her entire M&M Series in less than two weeks. In my opinion, there is no author that writes this genre better than Erica!
Another Readgasm. This book picks up where the first left off. Officer Mason and Clover Prynne's romance. In the last book we learned Willow and her cohorts (Seth, Violet, and the Mason Family) trying to get over on
Clover of hooking her up with Officer Mason. Let's just say the kids are not getting over on Momma Bear. Officer Mason and Clover are beautifully getting over on the kids. I might say they did a splendid job in the first stage of blending the families together. At the same time growing a lot as parents, and Widow and Widower have a hot and steamy romance. I felt I became Pregnant reading their encounters.
Has enough little mysteries to keep you guessing through the development of the relationship between the Widow (Clover) and the Widower (Officer Mason) that for a moment you doubt just a little if they will take that leap. The next page you are then put at ease with all the little details a love story needs to have a happily ever after. Its just amazing.
Pick this book up today...if you feel there won't be enough of our favorite young adults guess again it sets up their next story wonderfully. The ending of this books has you wanting to bribe the author to get it out immediately. I devoured this book like so many others of her books in one day.
WoW, she's done it again weaved a tale with depth, intrigue, twists, turns and then add the sex, it's everything I hoped it would be and more. Erica's character me come from her brilliant mind but I always feel like a voyeur into her secret life. She writes as though she is sitting in the middle of this outrageous soap opera, I love being drawn into her written world. I want to tell you so much about this but I won't spoil it for you the reader. It's a love story for two people who were left behind by their first foolish loves. I won't say they are jaded but they do bare scares and wounds that are slow to heal. They have so much to overcome but have overcome so much. They are both the strong to the others weakness and are on their way to being the yin and yang for each other. I know this seems repetitive but it's all I can do to but to words how great they will/are for each other. This is a series that you will fall in love with, I know I am. Great job again Erica Chilson!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
If you are not ready to be emotional torn down and build up to be left asking right from left then put then book down. If you have not read Good Girl then PUT THIS BOOK DOWN and go read Good Girl. Widow delivers a guy retching honest story that I am sure plays out in more homes across American then we would believe. To say I connected with these characters would be the understatement of the year, I grew with them. Erica has delivered a novel that I just don’t know how she will surpass in this series, but as a fan of hers know that she will for sure. So grab the good wine and tissues and be prepared to not put this book down until the last period is read.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
Once again Ms Chilson delivers a book which is so intricately plotted and beautifully written, that the reader can only devour it in awe. Widow overlaps part of Good Girl, yet is from such a different angle, that the scenes suddenly come up and light bright reminders in the brain of how it played out in GG. I absolutely loved it, and am buzzing with thoughts of little snippets of extra information that are now in our possession. For sure, they will feature again and be expanded, tickled and tormented; to be written into future story-lines. I, for one, cannot wait!
I love, love, love this story with all these characters. Malcolm and Clover are the best and I'm happy for them and both getting the happiness they deserve. I couldn't even think how it would b to be Malcom when he was younger. He turned into a caring, protective, loving, and passionate man. Clover and what she went through with Sam....insane...I don't think I would be as strong as her the way her husband treated her and how me had others treat her. I can't wait for the next one and excited to read more on all of them. I hope the next is just as long....I love long reads.
It took me a day or so to write this review. As I posted on me FB page, mind blown.... too much awesomeness! Widow was utterly amazing! Erica is a phenomenal writer. Her characters are so complex and their development throughout not only the book, but the series is outstanding. There is never fluff or filler in her books.
I never expected to like Clover and certainly not Malcolm. Well, I have learned to expect the unexpected with Erica. I <3 them and respect them as individuals, partners and parents.
Ok so this book kicked a$$. I love all of Erica's books. I have read them all. Her characters have so much depth love them or hate them. Just like her other series as each book comes out you learn another part of who they are and why they do what they do. To me I saw another side of Willow in this book and I wanted to smack her up side the head and scream grow the hell up. What I love is that Clover's story is happening at the same time with the Willows story. I love the cliff hanger and Clover is awesome. Erica is awesome and must have timelines for her stories all over her house.
How can two mature parents fulfill their needs while taking care of their kids? Two single parents take an emotional journey to try to get beyond their pasts to find a better future for their families. I loved this book and the characters. I feel like I could walk right up to these people because I know them so well. I laughed & cried with them. Book 2 in the series so we get to see events from a different point of view. Highly recommend!
Wow I'm just loving this series. Roller coaster of emotions on this one. How what you thought was the reality of your past gets shattered and puts everything in a whole knew light. Some of it is heart breaking. But what a ride. Everything seems to be fitting together perfectly then you realize that what you've tried to prevent for others may just happen anyway or maybe not. That is what we'll find out in book 3.
Hmmm....well I'm very mad the books didn't flow together like another review suggested. Things that happened in Willows book changed in Clovers book. I'm still mad at the ending I hate cliffhangers for authors who don't have a next book date ready!!! Ugh guess I will try and be patient! :(
This book had everything that I wanted. It was a roller coaster ride. I would laugh, be sad, cry. Then eat snacks, which I run out of when I read this series and every single book that Erica writes. I'm a huge fan.
I truly adored this installment of the blended series! everything I wanted and then some!! Chemistry between Clover & Malcolm was smokin'!! lots of side story with Willow & the boys too! and a damn cliff hanger to boot....CANT WAIT for the next!!!
after reading any book by erica chilson I always have a hard time starting anything else. I lovd this book. I feel like I'm. finally starting to see a little peek into all the characters lives. I can't wait for more.
I was totally swooning over Malcolm.... Glad to see Clover was coming back to herself.. Heart broke for Devon... Don't know how I feel about Willow and Ren. Willow is one of my favorite characters. Can't wait to read warped
