There’s nothing like a cowboy to stir a lady’s imagination - and nobody can do it better than New York Times bestselling author Jodi Thomas.
It’s Cooper Adams’s thirtieth birthday and his three older sisters have arrived at his Dallas ranch stanchly determined to find their rough-hewn cowboy brother a wife. Cooper isn't necessarily opposed to marriage, he just figures he’s old enough to make his own decisions. There’s just one problem. He doesn't know much about the ways of women, seeming a heck of lot more complicated than tending to a ranch.
Then one day at the general store, his spots Mary Woodburn. At first sight, she’s the nicest gift he could have received. She’s shy and gentle, sweetly receptive, and darn near irresistible. But she’s also a damn Yankee, the kind of woman Cooper never dreamed he’d find himself falling for. Now he can't stop thinking about her. And differences aside, with proper tending, theirs could be a love story as big as Texas itself.

Easy on the Heart previously appeared in How to Lasso a Cowboy
Jodi Thomas’s story telling is majestic! Easy On The Heart was a fun, witty, and intriguing western romance. You will fall in love with all the characters. I just loved Cooper Adam's witty over-protective spinster sisters and adored Mary, who stole his heart. I am so honored my beloved and cherished sister friend sent me this treasure by Jodi.
I have collected as many of Jodi Thomas's books as possible, and borrowed the rest. This one may not be one of my favorites, but I'd read it again. She makes me miss living in Texas.
At 92 pages, this is definitely a quick read! The story takes place in Texas, where Cooper Adams has a ranch. His 3 old-maid sisters have come from Dallas to help him find a wife. This time, they seem determined ... Cooper is now 30 years of age and "moving past his prime."
Cooper is very resistant to their plans of marrying him off to anyone who will take him. He refuses the party the 3 sisters are planning, to no avail. Like "death and taxes," these ladies will collect their due ... whether Cooper likes it or not.
The day after the sisters arrive, Winnie (the youngest) starts to shop at the second general store in town. This ramshackle mercantile is run by an ex-Union soldier (Miles Woodburn) and his sister, Mary. They are having a tough time eking out an existence in this southern state.
The interesting thing about this novella is how much life Jodi Thomas breathes into this quick read. It doesn't take long for the reader to really care about the characters and their situation.
As a separate book, "Easy on the Heart" is hard to find. However, it has been reprinted as part of a compilation, "How to Lasso a Cowboy." Copies of "How to Lasso a Cowboy," are much easier to find.
