Mossy Glenn Ranch #1

Chaps and Hope

Rate this book
It’ll take hard work for Carlos, Troy and Will to turn the Mossy Glenn Ranch into the successful business it used to be, and even more challenging will be making the place their home.

Carlos, Troy and Will met in Where There’s a Will. They found each other and a love not many people could imagine. It worked for them, and they’ve been handed a chance at a new life and a home of their own.

The Mossy Glenn Ranch, owned by three siblings, Nick, Rory, and Annabelle, used to be flush with success. Then the previous owners destroyed almost everything, selling their heritage right out from under the three.

They bought part of it back, and asked Carlos and his partners to make the place successful again. It’s a chance he grabs with both hands once his guys agree, but there are challenges for all of them, and Will’s desire to make the place specifically LGBT-employee friendly and safe may cause more trouble than they already find when the get to their new home.

From a situation in town that reminds Will all too much of his own abusive past, to the surprising support of many of the townsfolk, the trio find themselves facing new challenges and reaching for the love and support that grows stronger between them.

A few things about me...

I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.

And it's really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I'll just let y'all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there's something specific you'd like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio:D

Mossy Glenn Ranch is a spin-off from Bailey Bradfords series Love In Xxchange, specifically the last book 'Where There's a Will' which was ironically my least favorite of the series and had me sighing with relief that it was over. But for some reason I had the notion that I should read this series.

After reading 'Where There's a Will' I admittedly liked Troy and was happy he'd found someone(s) to have a future with, Will had tugged at my heartstrings and I was glad to see Troy and Carlos get him away from his family and into a loving and supportive relationship, Carlos, however, left me feeling rather ambivalent which is rather ironic considering he really is the glue that makes this ménage work.

So now here we are one Troy, Will, Carlos story later and I'm still liking Troy. Will is grating on my nerves because he at times seemed to be a self-absorbed, conceited brat, rather than the someone who was moving on from the abuse he endured at the hands of his family and building a life for himself with the men he loves. He did still have his moments but they were a little more spread out than I had hoped for.

I was also less than impressed with the direction the plot took in this book at the point where Troy stepped in and rescued a young man from his father's abuse. This story just really stopped working for me from that point on.

For the most part I enjoy Bailey Bradford's books and I will give the rest of this series a chance in the hopes that things get better and something clicks into place for me. But for now I think I'm just going to take a break and read a bit of something else in the hopes that I'll come back to it with a bit of space between this story and the rest of them.

1.5 stars round up to 2 here on GR (Hey, there are cowboys in this book of course I had to round up).

The blurb is accurate but only accounts for about 25% of the reading. The rest is sex between the main characters that really doesn't add anything beyond how many ways they can get it on. I appreciate a good sex scene, but I read a book to get a story. A book that only contains 134 pages can't afford to be filled up with too many sex scenes or the story suffers. Readers already have to put up with stories that don't end and that are being written precisely to create series that a reader will have to buy in order to get answers. Unfortunately, this type of writing is becoming common in order to draw out a series and collect proceeds from readers. I am about fed up with this tactic and am going to start complaining loudly. I encourage all readers to start demanding more for their bucks. Seriously, around $5 for a book of in the low 100's pages unless it's on special to encourage sales? I am starting to miss real books.

It was ok. I kept feeling like this was a sequel even though it said book one. The characters kept referring to things like I should know about them. The sex was pretty good, but the story was so so.

'Chaps and Hope' is book one in Bailey Bradford's new series, Mossy Glenn Ranch, and is, essentially, a continuation of Carlos, Troy and Will's story whom I met in 'Where There's a Will'. The guys have moved to Montana to take over the running of the Mossy Glenn Ranch for the three siblings who own it, Nick, Annabelle, and Rory. I loved coming back to my guys because I knew this would be a wonderful story and that the sex would be out of this world hot. I wanted to watch Carlos, Troy and Will settle into their relationship and for each of them to find their niche.

The guys get to the ranch and discover a mess. Someone graffitied the barn and house, fencing has been torn down, the house was broken into and garbage and dead rodents are all over. Yuck. They get to work on the fixing up, although Troy has a bit of a run-in with the local bigoted hardware store owner. Will has a great idea about advertising for hands in GLBTQ friendly publications, ensuring they get employees who aren't fazed by Carlos, Troy and Will's relationship, plus the ranch could offer a haven to anyone who is down on their luck in an unfriendly situation. I have to admit that when the author introduced Drake, the guy who said he knew nothing about animals or ranching but he sure could ride a cowboy, I had high hopes I would get to see more of him!

Settling in and getting the ranch up and running takes more work than even they thought it would. They hire some ranch hands and, of course, Drake as the cook, but since someone keeps graffitiing the barns, they have to keep stopping regular work to repaint. Then Troy discovers the hardware store owner having beaten the hell out of his son, and Troy calls the police while trying to keep himself from being attacked by the crazy bigot. The Mossy G has got some interesting stuff going on and I'm loving it. One good thing comes from Troy stepping in: some of the townsfolk come to the ranch and help to paint as their way to show thanks that someone finally stepped in and helped that kid.

There was a lot of excitement in this book, and holy crap, there was a ton of sex. For a minute it almost made me want to be a man. Nah, what was I thinking? *grins* I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series because I'd like to see more of Drake and Barney, some of the new people introduced here. Of course, I'll want to check back in with Carlos, Troy and Will, also, to ensure they are still happy and everything is going well for them. Thank You, Bailey Bradford, for creating another super fun and sexy series!

I purchased this because the ending of the last book left a lot to be desired. And while it wasn't that great of a book, I needed to know how Carlos, Troy, and Will turned out in Montana.

I completely understand why this was 99 cents. Yet I managed to finish it somehow.

Like the last time, I completely skipped over the sex scenes save for the first one or two. I just don't like how Bradford writes sex. There's something raunchy-in-a-bad-way about them. I think my biggest issue is that when the sex starts, the loving relationship aspect is gone and it's really just three indiscriminate guys fucking. It's like bad quality internet porn that you film in your parent's basement. They even had the dirty porn talk to go with it, which always makes me cringe. And don't even get me started on Will's implausible ability to be, as he put it, a "spunk fountain" (gross). Just completely unappealing all around. Not even the spanking could save it.

There wasn't much of plot. It lacked any real depth. I mean, events happened, but there weren't any real overarching themes. A problem popped up, it was solved immediately after. I liked Troy's insecurities and I wished that played somewhat of a bigger role in the overall story. Also the dialogue was overly sappy and preachy, which had me rolling my eyes. I didn't like how stereotypical Rocky seemed. I did, however, like the introduction to new series characters and wonder who they'll end up with.

While I would like to know what happens to Drake, Barry (Benny?), and Fred/Anthony, I think this will be the last of Bradford's books I buy for a long while.

Although I haven’t read Bradford’s Love in Xxchange series in which Carlos, Troy, and Will met, I wasn’t all that worried about being lost as my experience when reading this author is that the books within a series stand well on their own and when needed, the pertinent information is shared. Chaps & Hope reaffirmed my faith in the author’s ability to write books that are related to others without you having to read all of the prior ones in a series (or the series it spun off of). That said, as a fan of Bradford’s work I do hope to go back at some point to read the Love in Xxchange series as I can only imagine just how hot it is.

Being as it was made clear in the blurb that Carlos, Troy, and Will were already in a well-established ménage relationship, I was only mildly surprised with just how quickly the author opted to show the reader why their relationship has been successful. Boy howdy! These are some seriously hot cowboys that have no qualms about letting one another know how much they love each other and just how much they are attracted to one another. And there is a LOT of horse saving going on in Chaps & Hope and I loved it! But all that cowboy lovin’ doesn’t take away from the fact that the guys are there to resuscitate the Mossy Glenn Ranch and due to the nature of their relationship they decide to make it a safe haven of sorts for the LGBT community. While they don’t hide their relationship, the guys also don’t go out of their way to publicize it when in town – but the bigots always seem to know and the guys find the ranch being targeted by vandalism. When Troy is attacked by a local business owner, the guys find out that their community is far more supportive than a few bigots made it seem.

I really enjoyed Chaps & Hope. Despite the fact that Carlos, Troy, and Will had met and fallen in love in Where There’s a Will, Bradford showed the continued development of their relationship. Not having read the previous book didn’t prevent me from seeing how their relationship continued to progress as there was still obvious baggage from their pasts that was addressed in this novel. With this being the first book in the Mossy Glenn Ranch series, the author does spend some time laying the foundation for the series through the everyday tasks of repairing the ranch, hiring staff, interacting with townsfolk, dealing with the vandalism, and each man finding his place on the ranch. I loved Drake and cannot wait to read his own book (at least I’m assuming he gets his own). I will admit that I was surprised when the identity of the vandal came out and my heart actually broke for the guy; I really hope that we see more of him in the series. I also enjoyed how the townsfolk rallied around the guys after Troy’s attack and I’m looking forward to seeing how that bodes for the ranch’s future. Chaps & Hope was an enjoyable read and I’m ready for Ropes & Dreams – which I just peeked and saw is Drake’s story. YAY!

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

After the end of the Love in Xxchange series, I had HUGE hopes that Bailey was going to continue on with the characters. Her series had pulled me into the world and I wasn’t ready to let it go yet! So I was really excited when I found out that she had sorta continued the series, but with a new town and state.

So then Mossy Glenn Ranch series started, and it starts with Carlos, Troy and Will. The 3 men who we were left with in the Xxchange series. This story is how they got settled in their new lives, and new roles in life.

I was excited to find out that how their lives were going to change with starting over together. During the course of this book, they are faced with the prejudice of a small town. I did like that part because in the Xxchange series, there wasn’t that much prejudice in town. The men work together to try to get the ranch back up to par, as well as hiring help.

There is sex in this book, of course like all of Bailey’s books, but there is more to the story than the sex. We are able to watch as Troy comes into his own, as Will “tries” to calm down his hyper self, and as Carlos tries to watch out for them all.

During the course of this book, we can see some of the characters that we hope will be in future books. There is the drama, the fighting, the confusion and of course the love between the men. For this being the first book in a new series, I think it was done very well and I can’t wait to read more from the series.

This is book one in the Mossy Glenn Ranch Series but comes as a spin off from the Love in Xxchange series. I will have to say it may be good to read the other series to figure to more about these guys.
Quick rundown: Carlos, Troy and Will are heading to Montana for Texas to rebuild and reopen the Mossy Glenn Ranch for their friends and start their life together. When they get there the ranch has been vandalized and they find they have a lot of work cut out for them.
This story held a lot of promise. There was lots of sex. I have to say about 80 per cent sex. That’s not a bad thing the sex is hot, though at times I felt it was a little repetitive. I expected more to come in a story about the people they hired, the incident in town etc., most of that got skimmed over and the sex took too much precedence. Having said that, I thought the bdsm was pretty hot and appreciated the fact that this ménage did not centre on just one of the three. All three focused on each other well. I would have liked to had more story and more about the other people they hired. I will say the home movie scene…. SMOKIN!!!!!
I recommend this If you like ménage, fetishes (breath, bondage, spanking and fisting though it’s not super explicit)hot cowboys and really hot mansex this is for you!

It starts off with sex, of course. I’d say there’s generally way too much sex, but what else is new for this author and the parent series?

Not that it is bad sex, or even a bad version of BDSM (I so very much dig how polite and tender everyone, especially Carlos, is – it’s the little things that convey respect and affection). It mostly, probably, even ends up furthering the relationship development (more so in the previous book, but clearly there’s room for more), so at least it may not be as much of a waste of pages as it might seem at first to someone like me, who generally prizes story development over the “erotic” aspect.
But hey. It’s not really repetitive. Much. Maybe. Whatever! (I can’t even keep track anymore, I’m so inundated with the stuff, heh.)
It comes down to sex between the three being an actual focus of the actual story (rather than something tacked on), so I suppose having this much of it kind of is necessary.

What’s a bit odd is that Will’s family did not appear to supply an antagonist – or even to wrap up that part of his life. Not that I mind. As it turns out what plot we had was enough to sustain the story.
I rather liked that the Fred/Anthony situation did not end up entirely as predicted (i.e. ).

All in all this was a really satisfying bridge volume between the two series.

I really enjoy BB's books, in fact I have loved all her books so far and this title is no exception. I first met Will, Troy and Carlos in Where There's a Will (the last book in the Love in Xxchange series) and they were sizzling hot in that book, this one is even better!

I really hope that BB doesn't keep me waiting too long for the next book in this series as I really can't wait to read what happens next on the Mossy Glenn Ranch.

If you like m/m/m, cowboys and light BDSM then read this book, it is wonderful.

I'm like most others who agree that the blurb only matches a small percentage of the story. There's no real plotline in the story. Most of the book consists of a lot of sex between the three MCs. I was unaware that this was a sequel series. It probably would have made more sense if I had read the previous book(s) prior, but I shouldn't have to. I like the concept, but the whole story was just very shallow I'll grant that the sex scenes were pretty hot, but that's about all this book had going for it.

And their ranch cook, had me bawling like a baby. His needs to b next.
Can't wait for the next story.

Very nice, hot as hell, and romantic. It ended kind of anticlimactically but I enjoyed it a lot. Those three fit perfectly and the sex was hawt! Whew! I would love to read about the cook (Derrick?) and Anthony some more.

But hay... it ends with puppies!

The new lighter version of gay porn... now with more sex and less plot. Seriously; if real people fucked this often they'd die from dehydration and exhaustion.

You really have to read 'Where there is a Will" first. It's the last book in her Love in Xxchange series. It is the story of how the menage meet and why they are at Mossy Glenn Ranch.

Probably between a 2.5/3* for me.
The three guys have come from a previous series which I haven't read but generally I didn't feel I needed that history. They are together and strongly so - intense Carlos, conflicted Troy and bouncy Will. Troy is perhaps the character I wanted to know most about - the big guy with a big heart and insecurities.
Beyond setting up the farm, which we don't see much off, there isn't much to the story - even Anthony's story line fizzled out a bit. But there was tons of sex! If you want a lot of raunchy explicit sex this'll be for you! But would have liked more story with the sex.
