Lovely story. I loved how the Feranmi tried to control the direction of her heart but God had other plans. The story was told effortlessly and each page mae me have to go to the next. I wanted to punch Farenmi but she got it together. Alex had me pumping my fist in the air like yes yes yes. Refreshing love. Refreshing read. Enjoyed it.
This story captured my attention from the beginning. I loved to dialog throughout the book. more importantly, I loved the story of triumph over adversity. Unoma's telling of Feranmi and Alex's relationship trials was brilliant. Looking forward to more from Unoma Nwankwor.
Excellent crisp writing. This was definitely refreshing and a page-turner. It left me longing for more. Excited and looking forward to the release of "Amarachi" another novel by the same author.
I am delighted that I discovered this author's writing ✍🏾 and the inspirational and informative stories. I first read a Christmas short, (Home For the Holidays) and in those 26 pages I was captivated by the story. This book is the same giving the feelings and emotions. Keep writing and I will keep reading!
I was on Alex side when everything blew up on his face, she should've given him a chance to explain things instead of getting angry with rage. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this unexpected Blessing, I look forward to reading other books from Unoma Nwankwor.
If you’re expecting your average Christian romance, you’ll be disappointed with An Unexpected Blessing. Unoma Nwankwor has entered the literary scene with a bang; her debut novel is filled with interesting characters and intriguing plotlines.
Feranmi Adewunmi has a career she loves, sisterfriends who are always there for her and a thriving ministry to young girls in need of her guidance. She’s fine with her current single status, but to her parents back home in Nigeria, the fact that she has yet to marry the Nigerian man of their dreams is a travesty. They want to solve this perceived problem by marrying her off to the son of a family friend, but Fera is not interested. She wants her parents off her back, but that won’t happen unless she has a man in her life.
Alex Montgomery is back in Atlanta after a major setback in Chicago. He’s taken the past few years to heal emotionally, spiritually and financially; Montgomery Construction is back up and running and he’s finally able to feel joy in life again. He’s determined to focus only on building his business, but a chance meeting with Fera changes everything. He hadn’t seen her in years, and at that last meeting, he walked away with his heart in several pieces. Seeing her revives feelings that never died despite the circumstances, and he wonders if he can have a second chance with her.
An impending visit from her parents leaves Fera in a quandary; produce a man or have them throw their choice at her yet again. Her friendship with Alex seems to be the answer, but both of them are so busy trying to control the situation that they haven’t sought God for His resolution to all of their situations. Each of them has a relationship with Jesus Christ and a good group of friends in their lives, but despite all the help, they still found a way to make things more difficult than they had to be.
I enjoyed the peek into Nigerian culture, and the similarities and differences between it and African-American culture. Whatever the culture, well-meaning interfering family members are well-meaning interfering family members, and they can grate on the nerves of the one in whose life they are interfering. I also enjoyed watching two strong-willed individuals navigate the maze of reconnecting as friends and contemplating romance.
This was a pleasant and enjoyable read, and I look forward to future work by this author.
Feranmi is a young woman who is originally from Nigerian but now lives in the States. She is beautiful and very independent. She knows what she wants and refuse to allow her parents to push her into the arranged marriage part of their Nigerian culture. Her parents will not let up so when her parents make the decision to come to the U.S, Feranmi must come up with a plan and a man.
Alex watched Feranmi walk out of his life four years ago and now vows to make sure it never happens again. He is willing to do whatever it takes to get her back into his life even if it means deceiving her parents temporarily. Sadly, Alex might lose her again due to his own omission of the truth.
Armed with a plan and a man, Feranmi plots out her relationship with Alex. The only problem is, how can you pretend to be in love with someone when you really are? Can Feranmi truly deny her feelings for an African American man who has her heart already? Will her parents catch on that Alex is not Nigerian? You have to get your copy to find out.
The author does an amazing job of bringing the reader into the Nigerian culture and helping us understand why things are the way they are. She also has great character development of Alex and Feranmi. I wish there was a little more development on Ini and Kayla's character.
I truly enjoyed reading the story and how true love always prevail when the variables are in balance.

An Unexpected Blessing is about following your heart and living your own life. The author does a wonderful job sharing the tug-a-war between Feranmi and Alex’s characters. The twist and turns were unsuspected especially when an ex comes into the picture. This was an exciting book with well-developed characters that share true love. This was a page-turner that kept my interest until the end. I recommend An Unexpected Blessing to others.

Newcomer Unoma Nwankwor has done a great job with her debut novel with her ability to spin a story, while adding twists and turns and summing it up with food for thought. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Feranmi Adewunmi and Alex Montgomery got together four years ago. Fera, as she is referred to, is trying to honor her Nigerian heritage and breaks it off. Fast forward a few years and Fera is still trying to honor her parents and marry a Nigerian man, but she feels like she is being pressured into doing something she's not ready for and really wants to be left alone.
How do you control your feelings in matters of the heart? Fera has tried to fight the growing attraction and has even walked away years ago, but a situation arises puts her heart on the line once again.
Unoma Nwankwor’s “An Unexpected Blessing” started off with a lot of dialogue and not a lot of substance which made for a slow start. I felt what the couple was going through could have been resolved just by communicating. There were a few errors with punctuation and wording. Overall this novel was okay.
First time author, Unoma does a great job developing the story of two people from different worlds, yet tied together by destiny. Just when you think you have your life all planned out, God comes in a throws a curve. We spend a life time searching for the right person, the right job, the right house, and sometimes what we need is right in front of us. Fera wanted to please her parents and keep the traditional customs of her homeland but when true loves comes in she must decide what does she want more?
A girl with a plan, a man who loves her, and a God who sees what we need verses what we want. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it for your library.
One thing UN gonna do is write sweeeettttttt swooony books🥳🥳🥳. Reading Unexpected Blessing for the second time and I can’t seem to understand why I never drop a review of it here.
If you think you’ve met the best book boyfriend then you need to write UN’s book! And trust me, you can end up with multi book boyfriends because you might not be able to pick just one.
Now, back to the book “Unexpected Blessing“ Alex and Feranmi’s love story was a breath of fresh air. I love their banter and how both of them care for each other but it took me a whole lot not to be angry at Feranmi’s indecision.
An Unexpected Blessing by Unoma Nwankwor, was based on two characters from two different cultures. Feranmi Adewunmi is Nigerian and Alex Montgomery is American.
This book illustrates how two people can still find love in each other from different cultures
This was a very good book. The story line held my interest until the end. All in all, I would recommend this book you should add to your list of books to read this year. The author did a very good job and I’m sure you will enjoy as much as I did.
