Harley's Heart

Rate this book
After being rescued from ten months spent in hell, all Harlan Thomas wants to do is go home to the one man whose memory kept him alive. Trouble is, Miko is not where Harley left him.

Mitsuaki Thomas was heartbroken when his husband didn’t come home from a mission. He didn’t give up when the letters stopped or even when his mother-in-law had a funeral for Harley. But when he’s forced out of his home, Miko finally admits that maybe Harley is gone. Still, he wants to continue the dreams they had discussed, no matter how impossible they might be.

When Harley shows up on his doorstep, Miko is shocked to learn that he’s alive. Miko just doesn’t know if the life he created will be enough to keep the man home and happy.

When trouble starts, Harley and Miko have to put aside their differences and learn to work as a team or the people bent on keeping them apart permanently just might get their wish. With the help of some friends, they just might have the chance to keep their little family together.

About Me
I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.

I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.

I feel like the author only relied on shock values to write this story.
This was so overly dramatic, stereotypical and borderline offensive.
Author should've done some research
The Japanese character kept saying "hai"
Everytime he answered basically everything.

*** After being held captive, there are surprises waiting for Harley ! ***
Miko did not know what happened to his husband.

We met tough Marine, Harley, in the previous story
as the team rescued him. He was badly injured and had trouble tracking down his husband, Miko. While Harley was a captive,

his evil, bigoted mother,
kicked Miko out of their condo and held a funeral for Harley,
and did many other despicable things.
Sweet, shy, Miko is Japanese and she hates that he is a foreigner.
Also, after that mess, Miko showed his strength by building a successful business, got them a new home and an extra surprise for IF Harley ever came home. It took months to find Miko, plus his constant healing, and there is trepidation on both sides. Miko is confused and angry, while Harley is now scarred and limping, and fearful of rejection.
I liked these two men together; they were perfect for each other.

I didn't understand why Miko didn't speak better English and his background as to why he feared being aggressive when he wanted sex. The evil mother was an all out wacky, dangerous, murderous villain; more evil than some others I've read about.
But, it's a novella in a series and it IS entertaining, with action, bad guys and gal, plus a sexy romance.

It's not perfect, but Stormy Glenn has a unique way to have her reader loving the characters, no matter what.
ENJOY !

I’m definitely enjoying these more as I go along. I totally fell for Miko although just a hint for the author..... Miko’s English was very broken.... why was his sister’s perfect? It would have been great to have that clarified. 😝

Harley is hot - just like all the men in this series - and his love for Miko and Kei was beautiful. Thrilled to finally meet Cecil, Miko’s manager, and now I’m jumping right into book #5 because I want to see Cecil run circles around Manny, PLUS I’ve got to know what the deal is with the Pringles.

It’s been far too log since I read the previous book in the ‘Special Operations’ series, and I was happy to finally return to it – especially since this is the long-awaited-by-me story about Harley. Harley is the commander of the men I met in the first three books, and his having vanished was a mystery to all of them. Finding out what actually happened was great, but so was watching Harley regain his husband’s trust, fight another big battle - against the person trying to keep them apart, and seeing both men figure out how to stay together for good this time.

I absolutely loved Miko and Harley. I am not sure if this is the best story, but it sure does have the best characters.

Both MCs were very weak. Harley was a disgrace to Special Forces. He couldn't/wouldn't stand up and fight his mother from kidnapping Miko and their baby, physically and legally. Poor Miko was mentally challenged through most of the book, bless his heart. He didn't even have the capacity to understand that his deposited money was illegally withdrawn from his sister's bank account. It took Miko's business manager to save both of their worthless asses.

The good? It was slightly better than the last two in the series. The bad? It was still entirely ludicrous.

I took notes while reading this but I think I’ll scrap them all because, in the end, who cares about the logical fallacies or the really weak setup?

Just a few small remarks.

I wasn’t looking forward to this premise of a soldier returning home to his estranged husband after his presumed death. And yet it was what actually worked in the story’s favour. For a little while what we’re looking at is actually the classic story of the soldier returning after the war, feeling useless without a war to fight and unneeded at home since his family was doing fine without him. Solid material.

Of course to offset that we get… I hesitate to even say it. “Harley-chan! Aishiteru! Itsumo aishiteru?”

Yeah. Oh god, I am getting “small Asian men” flashbacks from Lynn Hagen’s books. Doesn’t help that Miko here seems very slow on the uptake; he has a childlike quality. OMG, the Lynn Hagen flashbacks are hitting me really badly now.

Yeah, that was… special. After a while I got used to it. Just one more thing to roll my eyes at and ignore.

The sexual relationship between Harley and Miko I found a little strange. I am not sure if it was bowing to some cliché of Japanese reticence or following up on Miko’s childishness. On the bright side it resulted in sex scenes that were not interchangeable with the usual fare.

So yeah. I shake my head, but I’m smiling. Because at least I did not want everyone to be killed by the cardboard villains this time around.

Well I was halfway through my review when goodreads stopped running and lost all my work as usual. So infuriating. They have the world's stupidest IT team of they can't even run an app properly!!

I put off reading this book bc I typically don't like books with couples who are already established but I was pleasantly surprised by how this book actually turned out.
My first issue with this book was Miko's broken English. Why does his English have to be so broken? He can still be very culturally Japanese without speaking almost no English. It just seemed to make him come off a little weak or less capable than he actually was. It's not as of he had only been there a few months. He's been in the states for a number of years. My other issue with the book was the level of drama! The villain in the story was SO over the top! ! It was such soap opera melodrama that it made me lose interest a little. It was quite unbelievable. It could have been brought down by abt 10 notches and still been over the top but not as Days Of Our Lives.
But I wish that There was more focus on Harley and Miko and their relationship.
But all the drama did provide a new feeling of Love to their relationship. I'm hoping that Stormy Glenn will be releasing another 2 books from this series soon and in closer succession. That's the one thing abt stormy is she series jumps like crazy and it may be a year or more before we get another installment of the series! !!

Charnel's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Loving men full of heart and a mother full of hate pretty must sums up this installment in the Special Operations Series. Harley’s Heart is full of suspense and twist that kept me on my toes and eyes glued to the kindle. Throughout the story I felt for their love and re-connection. Harlan Thomas is a rescued man of war coming back home, trying to rebuild his life and feeling useless constantly. His husband Mitsuaki Thomas (Miko) is very sweet but also comes across as naive. He’s trying to make sure his husband recovers fully by taking care of everything not understanding Harley’s need to be involved.

There’s some over the top danger and adventure in the book but that’s what look forward to in Siren books in general. Stormy Glenn always finds a way to bring the men in her books to life. No matter the plot I will stay reading her series for the connection I get from the characters.

Okay, this one didn't make any sense whatsoever. It's literally absurd.
Like, this is not how it works. THIS IS NOT HOW ANYTHING WORKS.

I might have borne it though, if not for the fact that while the Japanese MC is really likable, he also comes across as a really racist stereotype of a meek, infantile (but feisty when needed) Asian wife with "silken skin", to the point where while he has a very extensive vocabulary, his sentence structure is basically "me love you long time". He can say "Harley held prisoner" but he cannot conjugate "to be"? Seriously?
It's a pattern, too - when our MCs meet another gay couple, the Japanese half of it basically doesn't speak.

This story had a couple twists I was not expecting - lots of drama and, again, 2 more very sexy characters!

This is the 4th of 5 books in the series so far but there is definitely room for more. What I like is that each book is a full story based on 2 characters with a beginning, middle and end but, you get to see other characters from the other stories throughout.

While I liked Harley and Miko and Charlie and his team, *sigh* I found the plot to be totally ridiculous to be believed just like the first book. Still I hope Manny and Cecil are next and that no family is involved ;-)

Didn't connect with this one as much as the others so the lower rating. Still a good read, and leads up to (hopefully) the next one in the series... just not one for me to reread.
