Mina wants to put her seduction by a golden-eyed devil behind her, but the birth of her son, Jacques, renders that impossible. She tries to forget the only man who ever roused her passion, but when she notices her son exhibiting strange behavior—and less-than-human characteristics—she must face her past and learn to trust, and love, again.
Howling drunk, the one thing Remy clearly remembers is seducing Mina. A pity he didn’t think to get her address, especially since he marks her as his mate. When she disappears, he’s got plenty of time to regret, but he doesn’t get a chance to atone until she comes back into his life with an unexpected surprise.
Thrust into the role of father, Remy works to bond with his son while gaining forgiveness. But will he get the chance to truly make Mina his mate before danger threatens their fragile happiness?
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
I loved this book! I love Eve’s books so this was not a big surprise. I do however enjoy Eve’s darker books over her humorous books that she is most known for. I like my books dark and twisty.
Mina has been raised by some extremely religious parents that have kept her overly sheltered. They stringent upbringing has left her with some interesting notions of right and wrong. Premarital sex with the sexy drunken frat boy… all kinds of wrong and everyone in her life that should have loved her regardless turned their backs on her when she needed them the most. I just loved Mina. She is queen of make the most out of what you have. All the hardships have made her stronger.
When evil doers strike Mina Remy is given a chance he never imagined he would have. How can you not love a man who never gave up on finding the mate that he didn’t exactly wrong, but he definitely didn’t do right by her? Remy dives into the role of father and mate at the first opportunity. He is the perfect mate. He knows he has much to atone for and he is eager to make up for the lost time. There is just one problem, the evil that put Mina back in his life is not backing off and they are putting a roadblock on his path to a happily ever after.
I LOVED Pierre and Jacques. These two guys add something very special to Mated to the Devil. They gave new meaning to the tight family bond that shifters find in pack life. The advice father gives son, and son bumbles, and grandson getting to know caring people that he never had in his life was so real. Jacques and his reactions to his newly known father are so sweet. Remy meeting his son for the first time… there are truly some heart wrenching moments between these pages. Pierre being the older and wiser trying to do what is best where his pack is concerned while trying to not scare Mina made him the perfect alpha.
I also found it interesting that a race issue was addressed. I’ve read books where there is a mixed race couple, but never where there were issues due to it, or a child experiencing racism. Jacques and his mother have both experienced hatred due to the obvious race difference. Sadly this is something that happens in the real world and I was surprised to see it brought up in one of my escapes into a book.
I love Eve Langlais' books and this one is no exception. Some may find the beginning a bit rough. . It does contain some dubcon. If dubcon with the hero bothers you - You might want to take a pass. However, I think Langlais handled it well. I loved both the main characters. They weren't perfect which added to the appeal for me. Werewolf/shape shifter paranormal with the heat cranked up. Highly recommended to those who like to take a walk on the wild side
I’ve seen Eve Langlais’ books here and there, but have never read any of them. I’m glad I took a chance on Mated to the Devil. So, so glad. Eve Langlais can tell a great story.
I have to admit, I’m a sucker for secret baby tropes in romance novels so that’s what drew me in about the blurb. Add in a paranormal twist to that and I’m hooked.
The story begins with 19 year old Mina attending a college party with her two cousins. There she meets Remy who saves her from a rape attempt. Her savior, who I should also mention is a Lycan, already knows that Mina is his mate from the first moment he senses her. With a powerful urge to mate and claim Mina, he does exactly that and what’s not so great is that he wasn’t in the least sober when he did it. He didn't even ask for her name.
Mina comes from a very uptight and religious family with strict beliefs. Finding out that she’s pregnant after one night with the devil with the golden eyes and sinful touch wasn’t what she had in store. After finding out about her pregnancy and especially that her child is of mixed race, she is shunned by her family and disowned. Their only belief of her is that she is a whore and her bastard son is the progeny of the devil.
Soon, her baby boy, Jacques, starts showing traits that’s not so normal in four year old boys. Concerned, Mina takes him in to see a doctor. Little did she know that her choice was going to put them in danger.
For five years, Remy and his father, Pierre, has been searching for Mina with no such luck whatsoever. Call it fate or coincidence, Mina & Jacques is finally found after five years of searching. Now that Remy has found his mate and son, he will do anything to protect them and make up for his past regrets and prove to Mina that loving him, a Lycan, is not a sin.
I absolutely loved this book. It is a bit darker, but it does have added bits of humor thrown in as well that lightens up the story. With a rich cast of characters, this book easily captivated me and kept me turning the pages. I really adored Mina as a heroine for her protective mother instincts and especially for her strength. She endured hell after being disowned, but she did with what she could. Four year old Jacques was also a ray of sunshine in this book. He was absolutely adorable. And then there’s Remy. He definitely wasted no time stepping into the father role. Oh, how I loved Remy. He was a sexy Lycan who was sweet, caring, extremely protective of what is his and what I loved about him was that he was strapped with a naughty sense of humor. I also loved his flirtatious behavior with Mina.
What I found interesting about this read was that the author touched on real life issues in this book. Racism was clearly evident and race issues were addressed. Mina was worried that Remy’s family will not be accepting of her due to her being white and her son of mixed blood. Concerns of her also included becoming the object of racist remarks or snubbing like she’d already suffered from her own family and even from strangers on the street. The author even noted that Jacques gets teased at school for him being of a mixed race. However, I loved the message given in this story that color does not matter, only love and family.
Overall, I highly enjoyed Mated to the Devil. Reading this book was time well spent. I enjoyed reading every second of this story & am definitely looking forward to more books by Eve Langlais. With that said, this is a highly recommend from me for those looking for a darker, more serious, shifter story with rich characters, an engaging plot and a dash of sexiness thrown in.
QUOTE:
"You are one sexy woman, Mina Leblanc."
Me? Sexy? She couldn't help her lips from curving into a pleased smile. "Thank-you. You're not too bad yourself." Her grin widened at his mock chagrin.
"Not too bad? You wound me, baby."
She laughed. "I doubt it. I think you have more than enough ego to recover."
"I don't know. I might need some convincing."
"What happened to taking it slow?"
"I am or else you'd already be on my lap helping me steam up the windows."
Book Disclaimer: I received a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
Read this book a long time ago and just now getting to the review. I did not love this book it had a lot of plots and subplots that made no sense. Like why the hell did he make her go thru all that bull. Her whole rebellion does not even make sense given her upbringing. She has had a hard in the family lottery but honestly he was not any better at first. Just that he was better at his manipulation of her. Also, for me Anytime a girl is raising a child on her own someone somewhere is an asshole. No sugar coating it here.

Sweet second chance PNR read with good worldbuilding. Insta-love on H's end - H was amazing though he makes a drunken mistake in the beginning. The h was naive, too religious ( she kept thinking the H was the Devil bcos he tempted her!!) and wimpy - she kept fainting. But she was a good mom and had her heart in the right place.
First, let me say this.....I really enjoyed this novella, honestly! No matter what else I say, remember that. It was nice getting back to some of the more traditional Werewolves. More of the recent PNR stories tend to try to put a twist on the classic and that's great but sometimes it's nice sticking with the traditional. The chemistry between the two main characters is smoldering and there's some great love scenes. But before you run right out and buy this novella, be warned that the book does deal with some heavy issues, among them are rape, interracial relationships, bigotry, religion, child abduction, poverty, teen pregnancy and stupid drunken frat boys. All kidding aside, the author tackled some heavy issues in a short amount of pages and did it expertly although I do have a few comments on things that did grate me a little. First, I've read plenty of books where the couples are of different races, species and even different worlds but in all of them, the underlying theme is love conquers all, which is fab and why we read romances. Usually the authors deal with describing the characters quickly, so you get a mental picture of them and then the story moves forward, maybe there might be a reference again later to their looks but usually it's a passing comment. In this story, I cannot count how many times he talked about her ivory skin or her of his cocoa skin. It honest got in the way of the story for me for a bit. I was like "ok, I get that you're different races, move on already!" . The next thing that got on my nerves a bit was the religion. I understand that she was pure as the driven snow, figuratively and literally and basically she'd been brainwashed by her ultra right wing bible thumping bigoted parents but you'd think that after they booted her as a pregnant teen to the streets, she'd spend some of the last 5 years discovering who she really was and maybe easing up on her ultra right wing views but alas, 5 years later, she's still just as ignorant as the day they met. She is all about asking why God did this to her, why God isn't listening to her, calling the man who knocked her up the Devil and talking about being a sinner. For me, her ignorance also got in the way of the story. You would think after living in homeless shelters and on charity, that she would have changed her life views but alas, no. This is character does NOT radiate super strong, super smart woman but she does have a great motherly inner strength. She cries at the drop of a hat and spouts religious fervor but mess with her baby and her claws come out. Our hero on the other hand is a total caveman or werewolf. He's ruled by his nether regions and emotions. He screws up at every turn and BTW, we never do find out what his job is? Anywho, besides all these sticking points, the novella was a fun read for any PNR fan. Not totally unique but definitely a fun quick read. I gobbled it up in one night and I highly recommend it!
What an interesting book. This was definitely one of those cute 'I found you after so long' books that I can pleasantly say did not disappoint me. It had the plenty mixture of romance, drama, hardships, sex and struggles which I found to have helped the heroine to be a much stronger person. And speaking of mixtures, i definitely did not like how the heroine's family reacted toward their daughter's baby. They were so inexorable and heartless, i felt like punching them in the face. The racism situation in this book also did not sit quite well with me as I found it a tad bit too uncomfortable. No one should be judged by the color of their skin and even though this is fictional, I just felt the need to say it.
But overall, I loved it! It was so cute and I enjoyed the epilogue too hehe
4.5 stars. This book was great. Remy, love that caramel! How cute it was her son Jacques. Remy's dad Pierre, he was the rock. Mina's parents were the worst racist, religion freak Mofo; I am glad that she didn't want to be part of them no more. Mina and Remy were both suffering for years. Pierre was the hero in this story in the beginning; Remy, adorable, trying to keep his mate and him falling in love with his son. Jacques was a cutie pootie, caramel complexion with blue eyes, adorable. Remy and Mina finally had the moment they wanted to be together, even though Mina was just confuse from her upbringing, calling him the Devil, because of what he did as a lycan, but she know who she loved and who loved her at the end. Bravisimo to Ms. Langlais, another book that I do not have nothing to complain about. Loved the Characters. But I think Dean needs to have his story and Pierre as well needs to have another mate.
I always enjoy Eve's books she is one of my favorite authors. I can always expect to have a good read, a good HEA and a smile when you read a book by her. This book goes along with that, but I didn't like that we were always reminded that he was black and she was white. We got it and didn't need to be reminded all the time. Also the religious thing was a little over the top.
1.5 stars A truly... well... bad book. How it managed to get a nearly 4 star rating I'll never know. The writing sucks, the characters don't fit their age, the characters are flat, the... well, nearly every aspect of this book got on my nerves. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I'm a huge fan of Eve Langlais, but this is my least favorite of her works. I almost skipped it altogether after reading some reviews, but made sure I was in a decent headspace and cranked through it.
A trigger warning is needed for the first 2 chapters that involve an attempted sexual assault and then dubious consent, although, in my mind, saying no (whether meant or not) means no and is not consent at all.
Past that, this turns into the typical Langlais story of a couple and their instant attraction/mating bond with the token baddies threatening that new bond.
I first heard about Mated to the Devil by Eve Langlais on a soon to be released listing somewhere. Eve Langlais is a hit or miss author for me. Either I really like the book, or it really tanks for me. This was one of the hits.
The story opens with Remy, at one of his college fraternity's parties, drunk and scenting his mate. He follows the scent and finds Mina. Mina is a very innocent, very sheltered young woman who made the mistake of allowing her cousins to drag her to a frat party. Mina's first sight of Remy, his eyes are glowing from the wolf's excitement of a hunt through the party to find it's mate. Since Mina's parents are religious fanatics, her first thought is that he was the devil. And when her body responds, just standing next to him, she is sure of this. When Mina retreats from him, Remy drowns his sorrow in more alcohol.
Mina finds the cousins who brought her, at her Aunt's insistence, and begs to go home. But they are busy drinking and making out with guys and urge her to just cut loose and have some fun. One of the guys at the party offers to let find some quiet time in his room. But when they get to the room, him and his buddy start to try and rape Mina.
Remy, by this point is beyond wasted. He decides to head up to his room and sleep it off. But on the way there, he once again smells Mina. And then he hears her. Pleading for the boys to stop and to not hurt her. Let's just say the wolf goes off the collar at that point. So Remy bursts in, beats the ever living tar out of the 2 boys and they carries Mina off to his room. In his drunken wolf ridden mind, the boys had attempted to take what was his because he hadn't marked her yet and decides to rectify this. Mina attempts to dissuade him, but her refusals are weak and he quickly uses her own body's response to over come them. They both pass out afterword.
Mina wakes up and leaves, but Remy still very drunk sleeps till his father, a sheriff, wakes him the next day. Remy is being expelled from school for putting the 2 boys in the hospital. Remy explains to his father what happened, everything that happened, including marking his mate. The only problem - he never got her name and has no way of finding her. It's not until they finally find Mina's Aunt that the real worry started though. When she tells them that Mina was thrown out of the family for being a whore. It will take five years before they meet again and the story truly starts.
I really liked this book. The story was so good, I didn't even mind shedding a few tears throughout it. (And I won't read a book or watch a movie knowing I will cry during it.) Mina has a lot to overcome due to the way she was raised. There are times when she starts to comes across as weak, but when put to the test, finds her strength. Mina impressed me time and again. I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads. It is definitely worth a reread.
Mina grew up in a strict home, one with many rules and very little love so when asked by her cousins to come with them to a party she accepts never knowing that night will change her life forever. When Mina see's Remy at the party she is instantly attracted to him but overwhelmed with all that is going on around her asks someone if she can sit in his room for awhile. When Mina goes to sit in the room she quickly finds that the guy and his friend have other ideas. Remy knows the second he smells Mina she is his mate, but being drunk makes a decision to wait to get to know her, after a night of to much alcohol Remy finally decides to call it a night but on his way to his room hears his mate scream for help and manages to save Mina just in time from the two men. Now that he has saved her Remy decided to seduce her and claim her and he does, the problem with that(among many) is that he never learned her name and he wakes to find her gone. The years have gone by with no sighting of Mina and Remy is the shell of who he once was but a lot has happened in Mina's life since that night and all of it life changing. When Mina is finally found Remy will have the shock of his life because Mina won't be coming alone and now. Remy will have to not only make her fall in love with him and agree to be his mate while keeping her safe but he'll have a new person brought in his life that will change his life as well. This was a really good PR I loved Mina and Remy and Remy's dad in this book. The story flowed great and I finished this book quicker than I thought I would, I've found that lately a good werewolf romance book is getting harder to find(and I'm a sucker for a WW/BM story) and I was glad I took a chance on this book. I would defiantly read another book from Eve Langlais in the future and Will be keeping my eye out for what is to come.
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
Oh, it has been much too long since I read an Eve Langlais book. I had forgotten how incredible they are. What an amazing story!!
Our heroine, Mina, ends up at a frat party with her cousins and quickly feels out of place. She's from an incredibly religious household, and it's hard for her to let go of the conditioning. But after getting a glimpse of a guy that turns her inside out, she's a bit confused.
Our hero, Remy, wasn't looking for his mate, but after catching one whiff of her his instincts kick in - both the dark and the light.
The circumstances of their eventual meeting were very dark, and led to some very intense moments - opposites attract, sparks flew, and the emotions made things even sexier. The circumstances following their encounter, however, were some of the most heart-felt I have read in a book in awhile and I was absolutely hooked from beginning to end.
I would love to tell you more, but I refuse to spoil it. You simply must read it yourself! Let me just say that Mina and Remy together are amazing - each providing what the other is missing and completing each other and their family on a way that neither had even hoped for.
LITERAL ADDICTION gives Mated to the Devil an easy 5 Skulls and can say it was one of the most gripping dark PNR books I have read in a good long while. I highly recommend it to Paranormal Romance readers and Eve Langlais fans far and wide!
MATED TO THE DEVIL introduces us to Mina, a girl who has been raised by a family that takes religion to the fanatical level, and Remy a werewolf who is a frat boy in college. As is the case with the shifters in Ms. Langlais world Remy could scent that Mina was his intended mate from the first whiff. Poor Mina has been dragged along with her wilder cousins to a frat party and is surrounded and subsequently man handled by drunk frat boys, when she is saved by Remy.
Some of the things I love about shifter romance is the alpha male, take charge, protect and possess, mate for life heroes. We are given the chance to see what happens when things don't turn out the way that our alpha male had planned. I love also that Ms. Langlais heroines are spunky and have a backbone and Mina doesn't start out that way but she sure learns to stand up for herself.
The heat in this book is pretty steady through most of the book and has a bit of kink as well. MATED TO THE DEVIL provides a devilishly good read and several a hot as hell sexy scenes with our hot werewolf hero and his mate. This book is on the shorter side so it is something that you can read and enjoy in a weekend if not just a Saturday.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
I am a real sucker for the heroine who ends up in hard times because she gets pregnant and has to go it alone. I think I've liked this theme since I was, like 13 or something. The spunky heroine who does it alone, who sacrifices, and who does not back down but is not bitchy or all nasty hard ass chick (the type makes you wonder what any guy would see in her). Here she has done a very good job and there is no portraying all the sudden a single mom on her own can have her own house and all that. Especially if you are innocent and very unworldly. Enjoyed Remy and the contradiction that occurs when he realizes he didn't give so much choice in the act itself. Warning: There is attempted rape and she gets together with Remy same night so my peeps who would find this far-fetched are gonna rail on that a bit. Since I liked overall theme and plot I just rushed on by that - it's fantasy. MOST interesting ending - I've never seen it done like that where what happened to the pack. Notched it up for me because yeah that's more realistic. I mean it's paranormal - so yeah not so much realism - but still. VERY much enjoyed this. Langlais is a phenomenal author and continues to please!
Hey, so if you rescue a girl from being raped, then take her into another room, pin her arms to her head, ignore her protests because you can smell that she’s turned on, then have sex with her? That is rape, not “seduction.” Doesn’t matter if she “could have said no” or “could have pulled away more.” It is disgusting that they talk about how Remy rescued Mina from other men but in the same sentence describes his actions as “seduction.” To quote my favorite movie, “I don’t think that word means what you think it means.” I have enjoyed Eve Langlais’ books, but this one did not do it for me.
It's not often I read an MF story anymore. So it's fab when I finally pick one up and I really like it. The characters were really well written in this, and though I don't normally like reading stories with heavily religious people in them, it didn't bother me in this. It added to the story well and I wasn't expecting the racial issues that were involved. I mean the woman is mated to a wolf and she's more concerned about skin colour... that's just weird. Not a bad weird, just, well, weird.
My biggest issues with this are two fold, no matter what she said years afterward in the written scene where this begins she very clearly said no and stop, maybe she did end up liking it, maybe he wasn't violent in the way of her previous attackers, but the fact of the matter is she said no. No means no and any form of ignoring that is rape. Loving the child she created with him doesn't justify his actions.
The second thing, as a result of his actions at 19 she lost her home, she lost her family, she lived in a homeless shelter and had to bust her ass to find her way to living in a slum and that was a step up from her previous environment. She lived like that fighting so hard for six years because he didn't bother to listen for. I don't seen anyone getting over a life like that in a matter of days. No one is going to live through all that and then jump back into bed with the man who caused that direction of her life three days after he reappears in it.
Believable, realistic healing and forgiveness doesn't happen overnight and I'd rather read a longer slower paced story I actually believe than have the character provide instant forgiveness to keep the story moving forward. Sorry I don't buy it. And I honestly, based on his actions, don't believe he's really sorry for what he did either.
Another thing that just bugged me, though not as much, was breakfast. Mina goes into the kitchen to make breakfast and apparently that results in a bowl of fruit loops, the next day she tells the kid she's gonna make him pancakes, decides it's more important to brush her teeth and the serves him fruit loops again. I'm a little concerned that her idea of cooking is to make empty promises and serve fruit loops.
Overall I liked the story, though I felt like it rushed through the challenges many mixed races couples face because of small minded people and that the issue, if it was going to be included, deserved more attention and respect for a real life struggle.
I just felt like this story had too much going on to jump through those things like the characters could instantly get over them or surpass them or they would suddenly go away. With real issues like the ones broached here I think they would have been better served with slower pacing, longer healing and a longer story.
I hated the beginning, his behaviour towards her was moronic and extremely invasive, way too forward because of his drunkenness. As if that wasn't enough, he continued drinking while planning how he would "woo" her. Very smart. Not. He was not much better than the guys who tried to rape her before he came to the rescue, ignoring her protest and just taking what he wanted, once again because he was too drunk. But of course he had to be, only this way the author could excuse him basically raping her, justifying his actions with the pleasure he gave Mina. Which doesn't change the fact the she said no and told him to stop multiple times, he just carried on because he was stronger.
And there I had asked myself in the first chapter how she would end up giving into him after all given her strict education. Well, she didn't. And then she calls it "his seduction" after. Her other thoughts from the next morning only confirm rape myths further, stating that her protest was halfhearted because she had wanted his touch, had been hoping he would ignore her protest like he did. I needed two days to read those first chapters because they weren't enticing to continue reading at all.
The story got better once the time shift happened and the little boy was there. Remy was a great dad, I especially liked how he kept mentally complaining about the "dust" that made his eyes water to justify his "unmanly tears" whenever he was touched. Still, the romance unfolded way too quickly, the whole story took place in only a couple of days.
Further, Mina annoyed me sometimes. Is she stupid? Remy literally tells her he wants the three of them to be a family, and three paragraphs layer she wants to leave the conversation because she understands now that he doesn't want a family despite their connection? Was something wrong with her ears or something?
Plus, some details were never mentioned to the reader. What was his job? What was her job before she moved? I don't know. There were additionally a few missing words and some content mistakes like announcing that they'll make pancakes for breakfast but then acting like that never happened and eating something else.
Overall, a quick, albeit mediocre read, enjoyable but not special, with a very irritating beginning.
Mina wants to put her seduction by a golden-eyed devil behind her, but the birth of her son, Jacques, renders that impossible. She tries to forget the only manwho ever roused her passion, but when she notices her son exhibiting strange behaviour—and less-than-human characteristics—she must face her past and learn to trust, and love, again.
Howling drunk, the one thing Remy clearly remembers is seducing Mina. A pity he didn’t think to get her address, especially since he marks her as his mate. Whenshe disappears, he’s got plenty of time to regret, but he doesn’t get a chanceto atone until she comes back into his life with an unexpected surprise.
Thrust into the role of father, Remy works to bond with his son while gaining forgiveness. But will he get the chance to truly make Mina his mate before danger threatens their fragile happiness?
Review: Mated to the Devil by Eve Langlais is a Paranormal Romance. I did like the way it starts ….. She’s here. My mate.
This had to be a first for me. Mina gets talked into going to a frat party with her cousins. (been there, read that) but unlike most of the stories I have read, Mina is a god fearing Christian. She is afraid of her own shadow; her parents rule the house with an iron fist. So not sure how she got talked into the party, but that is not the point. Mina wanders through the house, unaware that she is being stalked.
Remy is a party loving, loud and proud a**h**e. He is from a long line of shape shifting alphas, (so he has stuff to prove :) He doesn’t ever believe he will find his mate. And certainly not at a college party. But all of a sudden he smells her, and that is it, he is hooked.
Remy has this all consuming desire to find and claim his mate. The instincts kick in and he is totally focused. But with alcohol in his system, the wolf seems to gain control. Remy needs to woo his mate, before he can claim her. There is no female shifters, only male. And the females once bitten take on some of the males characteristics, faster, better hearing, and aging process seems to slow down. So Remy has to woo the female before explaining what he is, then he gets to bite her. And apparently no sex before claiming as well, as the instinct to bite kicks in.
Remy manages to corner Mina in the kitchen, and practically begs for a kiss. She by now is totally freaked, she wants to go home, she is convinced she is going straight to hell, and her soul is in peril. After escaping Remy, Mina goes looking for her cousins, but gets told to go wait in a bedroom, as they are having far too much fun to go home yet. Mina gets escorted to a bedroom to wait for her cousins, but gets more than she bargains for. Her escort turns out to be a total scumbag, and along with his friend tries to rape her. Mina is saved by Remy, when he finds and dispatches the would be rapists. He tries to comfort and calm Mina, but the wolf is still intoxicated, so it’s logic is all instinct at the moment. All the male smells are other males all over his mate. Things take a different turn.
The story then picks up five years later, with Remy a broken man, as he never found his mate, he never got her name. She never went to the college, and no one noticed her at the party. After his father cleared up his mess at the frat party, Remy was sent home in disgrace.
Mina is now a mother. After being thrown out by the family, and disowned. She has a daily struggle to provide for her son Jacques. But her son isn’t the same as other kids, he growls and his eyes glow. Driven by fear that her son is the spawn of Satan, she goes to a doctor. She needs answers and she needs assurance. Jacques on the other hand isn’t having any of it, and tries to bite the doctor! After the doctor tries to tell her that her son will need to be studied, Mina becomes afraid, what if they take her son, maybe he is strange, but he was her son, and she loved him dearly. Unknown to her, Remy’s father Pierre gets a call from a shifter working in the labs, Jacques blood was flagged. He can’t believe there is an unknown wolf in the system.
After tracking down the unknown wolf, and making the realization that this is his grandson, Pierre has some decisions to make. He doesn’t immediately contact Remy, as he knows his son is unstable after losing his mate. But Mina isn’t having any of it, she wants nothing to do with Remy, she still thinks he might be the devil, as she lost all control that night, and it must have been something he did. An attempt at trying to kidnap Jacques, convinces Mina to leave with Pierre. And they leave for Pierre’s home.
Remy is a broken wolf, he barely sleeps, he hardly eats, nothing holds his interest. He walks straight into his father’s home, and the scent hits him instantly. He won’t believe it, he can’t understand where it’s coming from, and he thinks he is finally losing his mind. But there is also another Lycan in the house, Remy is afraid that the other wolf has laid a claim to his female. The reunion between Mina and Remy doesn’t go as smoothly as Remy thinks it should. She faints, he apologizes, and a tentative truce is struck. Mina won’t believe that Remy hadn’t stopped looking for her, and wanted to be together. And Remy is stunned to find out that he is a father.
There is chemistry between Remy and Mina, and he thinks it will be only a matter of time before Mina becomes his. Boy does she make him work for it. She is suspicious and distrustful. Her family hurt her with their cruel actions and comments. She can’t believe that a handsome man wants dumpy and plain Mina.
The Christian and the race issues were well handled, with Remy being black and Mina being white, and Jacques was of mixed race. I liked that although they had sex within the first few chapters, they didn’t immediately jump back into bed with each other. We got to see them evolve in their new relationship. The fact that Remy had a son with Mina, didn’t mean that they were going to be a couple. Mina needed to be treated with respect and love, and Remy gave that to her in spades. I liked the interaction between all four of the main characters. The love Pierre had for his son shone through. And a mother’s love that Mina had for her son, even though she thought he was the devils child.
I really liked this story. And I hope we get to hear more of the other wolves. I will be adding this author to my reading list. I would also recommend her to many of my friends. The sex was hot, the violence graphic enough for me. And the couple worked well. There were funny elements that had me laughing at the most inappropriate times (the bus raised a few eyebrows).
To be honest I didn’t put the book down until I was at 50% mark, at that time I had to do so because I needed to eat. I loved the book because I am just a sucker for 2nd chances and this is what the book was mainly about. To be honest, I don’t really get to read much about books that has an element of racism in it so this is somehow new to me, but the whole racism thing wasn’t the center of the whole book although it was still quite a big part of it. I love how family oriented the plot is and its quite funny how religious Mina’s family is. I also loved the statement there where she said that the level or her family being religious is not normal, and she is right they are fanatics. Any parent or family who disowns their child because she got pregnant in a way that doesn’t fit their religious standards are just crazy fanatics. For the characters, Jacques is absolutely adorable and brave. And I think remy did a good job atoning for his mistakes, I loved that he was emotional throughout the story and that he was allergic to the supposed “dust” in the air. I am so glad that mina had found her backbone and that she had grown courage and wasn’t so self-pitying and insecure all the time. I so loved that in the end, even though not everything turned out perfect for them, she didn’t blame anyone and she just enjoyed life. Like they say…it doesn’t matter if the devil fell in love with you, as long as he loves you with the same intensity he loves hell..( or something like that..)
my only downside was that there was no description on what was remy's work, or what he had done after the incident in the college frat house..
3.5 stars. Not quite what I am used to from this author. A darker book with quite a few issues addressed. Zealous religious fanaticism, racism, young pregnancy, struggling single mother. Whilst I did enjoy the storyline I struggled through the first few chapters with the over religious comments from the heroine about sex being of the Devil, her holding her child down to be subjected to testing and the idiotic drunken behaviour of the hero. Once past this phase of the story I really enjoyed what was delivered and would love to have more about this group of shifters. What happened and who is behind everything? The crazy doctors behaviour was insanity at its best but I want to know exactly what he did with his own daughter, her mate and his own grandson. Are they alive or did he kill them? The separation of the pack at the end was sad.

Mina and Remy first met while Remy was stinking drunk one night at a college frat party. Their lives were forever changed that night as the result of drunken reactions, but until a few years later and a chance encounter throws them together again.
Although this book did not contain this author's usual snarky, funny characters, it did have a story to tell and a very good one. The characters had very different backgrounds and beliefs and she explained their actions based on each character's upbringing. Well done.
This book was all over the place. The summary makes it sound like the male shifter is bad, which isn’t the case. The author addresses prejudices with different multi racial couples, but also ties religion into a lot throughout. I found it confusing, it hints that being very religious equals racism, but then the heroine in her own way is very religious and judgy, but we’re supposed to like her. 🤷🏼♀️
It was a good read, however, I wished the story would focus more on the paranormal aspects of the werewolf. There were only a few times where the characters actually shifted into their animals. The romance however, was definitely present. I felt as if it was more a contemporary romance than a paranormal romance.
One fateful scary night results in a pregnancy, a mating and then a missing mate.
A little more religious than I’m used to, this book did have quite a few mentions of god in it. However it fits well into the story line because Mina grew up in a very religious household. Remy and Mina were cute together.
Enjoyable but it wasn’t really anything new, and it started a little cringe. There’s definite dubious consent in this, and just because the scene happened immediately after an attempted rape, it was real uncomfortable to read.
