Boxed set of three award winning High Heels Mystery novels featuring fashion designer turned amateur sleuth, Maddie Springer, including:

ALIBI IN HIGH HEELS - book #4
Baguettes, bodies, and haute couture galore! Shoe designer turned amateur sleuth, Maddie Springer, is at it again, this time in fabulously fashionable Paris. When Europe's designer de jour, Jean Luc LeCroix, invites Maddie to show her creations at Paris Fashion Week, Maddie's sure she's died and gone to heaven. That is until Jean Luc's top model is found dead on the runway, stabbed with a familiar stiletto heel. Sure someone is trying to frame her, Maddie enlists the help of her friends, including the sexy Detective Jack Ramirez, to uncover a daring jewel heist, a devious blackmailer, and even a few skeletons lurking in the closets of those closest to her. But as the evidence mounts, Maddie becomes the prime suspect and Ramirez is stuck between a badge and a cute blonde with a tendency for trouble. Will he stand by her as she attempts to track down an international killer, or will this be the case that finally comes between them? One thing's for sure, if Maddie doesn't uncover the real killer soon, she may be saying her final adieu.

MAYHEM IN HIGH HEELS - book #5
Maddie Springer is finally walking down the aisle with the man of her dreams. And she's got the perfect wedding planner to pull it all off in style. Well, perfect, that is, until the woman winds up dead - murdered in buttercream icing. With the help of her fellow fashionista friends, Maddie vows to unveil the cold-blooded killer, but as the wedding day grows closer, tempers flare, old flames return, and Maddie's race to the altar turns into a race against time.

FEARLESS IN HIGH HEELS - book #6
Morning sickness sucks. Which is why fashion designer turned amateur sleuth Maddie Springer has spent the last six weeks being a couch potato and Moonlight vampire movie devotee. But when Maddie's best friends finally convince her to venture out, Maddie stumbles on a dead body of a girl who has been bitten on the neck, and life suddenly imitates art in the most deadliest of ways. Now Maddie is smack in the middle of a murder investigation involving a deadly dance club and a coven of Hollywood "vampires". Not to mention navigating the world of baby showers, diaper genies and Lamaze classes with her LAPD Homicide detective husband who would rather his pregnant wife not continue popping up in his murder investigation. Between the hormones, the homicides, and a flurry of fangs, Maddie and her gang work to track down the deadly truth... before the killer bites again!

Fire your editor! Are there spoilers here - probably

Before I comment on the actual stories here - full transparency I never read the first 3 books. I started with this set believing the character development would be further along and the mysteries would be more complex. Yeah, NO. The progression from book 4 to 6 saw Maddie getting dumber and more reckless. What kind of mystery series is this? She NEVER solves the mystery! There is a full cast of characters, that if fleshed out, my make this entertaining. I had to keep reminding myself these are the 4, 5, and 6th books in this series. Why is this so poorly sketched out? She's not funny, or endearing, smart or talented. She's a shoe designer who's never really working. She goes to Paris and sees the Eiffel tower on the LAST DAY but talks about it through the entire book. She's disrespectful- she calls her kind and sweet step father Faux Dad - Fake dad? When her actual father appears he's a joke! Just another outrageous character to check off a diversity box. Oddly enough in all the places around California and Hollywood movie lots all the Latinos are gay or dropping off enchiladas and there are no mentions of other diverse people.

I slugged through this mess hoping for something redeemable but with every glimpse of interest it was ruined by shenanigans and slapstick. Maddie is frequently referred to as 'Lucy' - Lucille Ball would sue if she knew her name and rhetorical likeness were being abused in this way. I'm a huge mystery fan and I didn't care who killed who, I never guessed who did it and was never surprised by the ending. The other caricatures in these books (yeah I said it) were wasted props to hide how ridiculous the main character is. I would never use the word 'heroine' to describe her as she always needs to be rescued (insert serious eye roll).

Oh the editor comment - there were missing WORDS. Not just missing punctuation or the wrong their/there/they're but actual mission g words in the middle of sentences. Who can focus on solving the mystery when you're trying to figure out what the author was trying to say!

I'd give Book 4: 3 stars, Book 5: 3 stars, and Book 6: 2 stars.

This series of books remind me of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series. It's got a similar writing style with similar characters and situations. The biggest difference is that the Stephanie Plum series feels much more polished. Also, the Stephanie Plum books actually make me laugh out loud. The High Heels series never made me do that although I did occasionally roll my eyes. ;-)

In the "High Heels" series, the author relies heavily on a formula and every book between 1 and 6 has exactly the same formula and just minor variations to the plot, etc. I think that reading all 6 books back-to-back really caused me to notice the formula and weaker characterizations. The author has phrases too that were highly predictable. You knew it was coming before it was said. That is fine for light, simple reads.

I wish the author would allow Rameriz to stand-alone and shine. It would be interesting to see him allowed to play a larger role in the overall story, I think. I was glad to see Felix get pushed to the background more in this set. He was an ok character but really pretty dull, I thought.

I don't know that I'll ready any more in this series. I may. I don't see me reading these books over and over again through the years like I do with Stephanie Plum.

High Heels Mysteries Boxed Set Vol II

This box set was great. I would read any and everything about Maddie Springer. Now that she and Jack are married, it was a treat to learn they were having twins.
