I have finished reading, but the story has not ended! This tale of Clara is the first one that captured me outside of reading. I found myself through the day thinking about this book. Trying to piece together information. I was moved by the author’s written words. I felt apart of the story… feeling the character’s emotions along with them (pain 🗡️, love 💗, & heat 🔥) I can’t wait to see where this story leads!

If you enjoy any of the following, you will devour this book:
✅ Loves to Enemies
✅ Enemies to Lovers
✅ Curvy and strong FMC
✅ 4 🔥🔥 Princes (this book is not why choose)
✅ Morally Grey Men
✅ Romantic Fantasy
✅ Magic
✅ Fated Mates
✅ Spicy scenes 🔥
✅ A competition with adventure
✅ Mention of crystals and gemstones

Trigger warning: death of a parent, blood, death

I received this book as an arc and this is my honest review.

The rollercoaster of emotions this book put me through was spectacular. At no point did I know who Clara could really trust. All the men are hot and competing against her for the crown. The friendships made on Clara's adventure are so sweet. There aren't many spicy scenes throughout the book but the scenes that are included are beautifully written and 🔥🔥🔥. It does end in a cliffhanger which made me SO excited for book 2.

Overall I'd consider the book a 4.25 ⭐ but I rounded up to 5. This being a debut novel is amazing! There were some things I think could have made it a tad better but I am confident the next books in the series will reach a solid 5.

I wish we saw more of Clara's backstory in the beginning to make it a little more impactful. I do appreciate that all the important and good stuff happens on page!! ( I am not a fan of brief descriptions of things happening afterward or fade to black scenes) This being an arc there were minor things like sentence structure and things like that that may be fixed or improve as books go on.
Overall I really enjoyed being immersed into this beautiful world of magic and can't wait to see where it goes!

This fantasy was a fun change of pace from Britt’s sports romances, which I love with my whole heart.

The story was full of mystery where you’re wondering who is actually betraying who the whole time and I didn’t find that part easy to predict like many other romantic fantasies. As with others though, the dark seemingly villainous character is dreamy from the get go. 😆

Britt brought her unique storytelling to life with this one and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series for sure.

What to expect:
👑 kings and queens
👑 fated mates
👑 secrets and betrayals
👑 strong FMC
👑 love triangle
👑 hidden identities

I really wanted to love this book because it had great reviews. The plot and characters themselves are good. The writing….

There is no continuity to the story. The main character is presented with the same information from multiple sources throughout the book, but each time she is shocked, surprised, or hurt by it. She also asks questions that she just received the answers to. For example, she asks her father, “Wait, how do you know this father? I don’t understand how I could be the true descendent,” even though her father just told her the story of how Athiana came to heal her mother while she was pregnant and told them that she was.

Basic grammar and punctuation rules are completely ignored. Was this copy edited or even proofread before publishing? If so, please ask for your money back.

I often found myself asking, “What did I just read?”

“A small sigh vanquished my mouth”
“She walked towards me and stopped he walk to stare into my eyes.”

Just two examples that really made me stop, re-read, and actually ask my husband if I read it right. Truly though, the whole book is like that. I finished it, but it was painful.

Wow… just. Wow. This was a fantastic read. I genuinely could not put it down.

As a mom to young tiny humans it’s hard to set aside time to devote to reading sometimes. I didn’t have a choice this time. I was compelled to finish this book, to the extent that I popped a headphone in and turned on spoken content on my phone so I could still consume the story while doing other “required” tasks. 😂

I am fully invested in these characters and am already sad that I have to wait for the next part of this spectacular story. I can’t wait. Absolutely obsessed.

Beware, the twists and turns in this book may give you whiplash. At no point could I tell you what was going to happen next. This story sucks you in and is an absolute blast to read, but it does end on a cliffhanger that leaves you desperately wanting the next book.

Clara and her boys(most of them 🙄) are my favorite part of the story. I loved the friendships, the found family vibe, the different types of love that are shown.

Let’s be so real though, Evander is my favorite. 😏 I’m a sucker for an enemies to lovers story where he falls first and harder. 👏🏼

The story centers around a competition between the 5 heirs to see who will take the crown over the land they share. There’s betrayals, secrets, magic, little bit of spice 👏🏼 and so much more!

The ending left me with my heart in shambles, jaw on the floor, and begging Britt for the next book asap 😭😭

This incredible fantasy had me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE time!

So much action entwined with love. So many twists and turn. You never know what to expect next!

Clara’s story is magical and breathtaking, a heroine trying to forge her own path to do what is right and just for her kingdom, especially those she cares deeply about.

With a curse to break, who can Clara rely on?

I felt every single emotion of the characters. A stunning book that I highly recommend.

Thank you to Britt Stark for the ARC copy!

A Clash of Stars was a very fast paced fantasy novel, and I mean very fast paced. If you like slow pacing this book would definitely throw you for a loop. The magic system in this world is very interesting, and I like how this book answered questions while still leaving space for us to form new ones about how the next book in the series will play out. The characters are also interesting and complex and with where book one ended, I’m interested to hear more about who are character are. Congratulations to Britt Stark on her first novel, and I can’t wait to read the next one.

ARC review!

This book had me hooked from the start, wanting to know what would unravel next in Clara’s journey. 4 princes and one princess competing for the crown. In the end, Clara finds that her journey is bigger that she thought to save her people and defeat the curse. With the curse to break, who can she really trust?

- Chosen one/cursebreaker
- Competition for the crown
- Enemies to lovers
- Magic
- NA Romantasy
- Fast-paced
- Magic
- Love triangle
- Spice

Clara’s fate has been decided since before she was born. Conveniently, everyone knows, inconveniently, no one has filled her in on it. At 21, she has spent years training for the Variance - a competition between the royal offspring for the crown. What she finds, is the world is so much bigger and much more complicated than she thought. With love, perseverance, and magic does she have what it takes to break curses?

The premise of this novel is super enticing. The author has done a fantastic job marketing her book on her socials, I was DYING to read it. It has so much potential as a plot and it’s super creative! There’s so much going on, so many mysterious to solve - I was left flying through some of these chapters.

That being said, I also had a lot of trouble, especially at the beginning getting into the book due to sentence structuring - some of the writing and dialogue was a bit awkward which kind of brought me out of the flow and the story.

I wished the characters were more developed. With the book being written in first-person, I know it’s hard to thoroughly develop a whole ensemble of characters, but it felt like it lacked crucial development causing relationships to not feel genuine. At times it seemed like characters were used only to further the FMC’s agenda.

Honestly, I’m curious enough to want to see where the author decides to go with it.

OMG… I would 1000% recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Fantasy Romance. I was hooked from the beginning and all the twist and turns had me not wanting to put the book down.

You meet Princess Clara, who is training with four other princes’ to complete the Variance. A battle to decide who will be the next ruler of the realm. Along the way, she finds herself and starts to uncover secrets about her life. She starts to realize not everyone is who they seem to be. The roller-coaster and the twist and turns, even I couldn’t decide who Clara should trust.

I loved the world building and the character development throughout the story. I felt like so much information was given, but also I had so many more questions. I had to know what happen next.

It does end with a major CLIFFY.. I’m so excited to learn what happens in book two.

Some Quotes:

“Princess, it isn’t a threat. It’s a promise. Not everyone is who you think they are.”

“The next time we are this close, there will be no stopping. You will be completely mine,” he declared.

“I saw you. You are more fantastic than you realize. I should bow before you, Clara. I am not worthy of being in your presence, let alone have you this close to me.”  He pulled my legs around him so I was straddling him. “I’ve waited such a long time for you.”

A deep voice said, “I gave you time to win her over. That time is over now. She is mine.”

“Don’t run too far from me when the final trial starts, darling. It will only make me want you more.”

“Our stars aligned, Clara. You are the light to my darkness. You are the good to my evil, and I will love you eternally.”

A Clash of Stars by Britt Stark is the first book of a new adult fantasy romance series. The heroine, a royal in her early 20s, is fated to save her kingdom but doesn’t know why or how, or who to trust. Tropes include enemies to lovers, who did this, a competition and slow burn. Please see content warnings.

The Lovely: The premise and the plot was engaging. It was full of twists and turns that kept the story moving and even the reader didn’t know who to trust. It was gripping enough I do want to read the sequel to see what happens to the characters. This does end with a cliffhanger.

The Mundane: This book could benefit from a good round of editing. There were typos, grammatical errors, tense slips and more, many of which would have been caught by spell/grammar check. While I’ve come to expect some things to slip through, these were frequent enough to be distracting.

The Dreadful: While this was described as a new adult fantasy romance, and definitely contains topics not suitable for the under 18 crowd, the writing felt more like YA. The language used by the author both in dialogue and descriptions felt simplistic and there was a lot of telling instead of showing. It didn’t feel realistic for a bunch of characters in their early 20s (and older).

Rating: 3/5 Stars 2/5 spicy flames

Recommendation: I had high hopes for this book and while the story was engaging, the telling of the story detracted from the reading experience for me. However, I did become invested in the story itself and will likely read the sequel to learn what happens. If you like very new adult fantasy with light steam and a stellar plot, I think you would like this book.

Arc Review!

Thank you so much Britt for allowing me to read this in advance!

I loved this book. Great first book in a new series.

Clara was such a badass i loved her.
I also really enjoyed the prologue to give us all the information for the back story. It helped me get into the story right away without reading anything else but the prologue.

I thought madock would be Clara’s number 1 forever. I did enjoy their cute childhood friends to lovers but when he just disappeared and stopped talking to her i stopped liking him.

Once Evander was introduced i couldn’t stop myself from hoping they would be the endgame. Evander is my number 1 book boyfriend.

I also really loved that this book not only gave us the answers to questions but at the same time gave us more questions.

The spicy scenes between evander and Clara were very well written. I also enjoyed that even if there was no spice this book still had a great plot.

I cannot wait for book 2 because that cliffhanger had be gasping. I also enjoyed that even though Clara broke the cruise there’s still more puzzles she needs to solve.

DNF at PG 138. 2/5⭐️ Do not recommend; it was not enjoyable.

I spent a lot of time daydreaming about this book. I wanted to love it so much, and to be fair I love the IDEA of this book, the PREMISE of this book, but the execution😖

Only two irks, the first of which caused me to DNF,
1) The Grammar! @Britt whoever you paid to edit this needs to be fired and you need a refund. I love the story, the characters, the worldbuilding!! But the grammar/syntax errors absolutely killed this book for me. I just couldn't get through it. On one page it was obvious an entire paragraph had been cut mid-to-mid sentence and was supposed to be spliced together and just... wasn't🙃 Please let me beta read the rest of the series for you😩
2) The Variance... The entire first book should've been about the Variance test (a la Hunger Games style). The whole beginning is them training intensively for it and it's built up as this HUGE event, but it over in a single chapter? Like a few hours in-world time and a few pages for us... It just didn't make sense and made everything seem less life-or-death.

I feel like the story line was great. I really enjoy the development of the characters. I was hooks. I have been following. Right on Tik Tok since April and have been super excited to read this.

With that being said I think the POV should have been 3rd person. Clara seems like a great character but I felt like I was following a 15 yr old. And it’s hard to stay in the book when she’s 23 acting that way. So it’s a bit of a turn off in a sense. I think there just could have been more development and a better sense of time. There were a LOT of points in the book where I thought days had gone by but it was actually years. So there just really wasn’t a sense of time and that through me off a lot.

I also think that the action scenes are too easy. For some near impossible feeling tasks Clara completed them with a flick of her wrist.

Even through all of that. Im here for the second book and can’t wait to see the development of writing from her. :)

I 1000% recommend A Clash of Stars to EVERYONE that likes romantic fantasy reads.

I've been trying to get my thoughts together since I finished this book. This is easily one of my all time favorites. It's the kind of book I wish I could go back and read again for the first time.
Honestly, it gave me such a book hangover, I ignored my TBR list and read it AGAIN!

I'm pretty sure I highlighted about half of the e-book. I ordered a physical copy so I can highlight it in person, because yes, I will read it over and over.

Okay, so this book starts with a pretty map! The cover is amazing and everything inside the covers just completely spoke to me. The adventure is fun, the slow burn is delicious, and the intrigue and betrayal kept me guessing the whole way through.

The world of Carondelet is split into several smaller kingdoms.
Clara, the princess of Artesia, enters a competition with four, yes FOUR, princes to claim the primary crown as ruler of the entire country.
But nothing is what it seems. As everything gets turned around, will Clara be able to achieve the goals she faces?

The beginning had me wondering which of these gorgeous and delicious smelling men she would end up with. I assure you, they all smell amazing.
I'm not going to talk about the men in this book, because you need to experience them for yourself just like I did. You won't regret it.

Clara, the FMC, is such a strong woman. Watching Clara grow into her strength as the book progressed was honestly one of my favorite parts. She takes everything in stride so well, even though her world has been flipped upside down.

A Clash of Stars has, I think, every one of my favorite tropes, and several of my favorite micro tropes as well. Also, the 🍪 scene melts me.

I swear this book had me questioning everything—and I loved every second of it. Just when I thought I was starting to piece things together, Britt Stark said “plot twist!” and threw me right back into chaos of the plot. It’s one of those stories that makes you feel just as lost and desperate for answers as the main character, and honestly? I ate that up. Clara is a total powerhouse and Evander was immediately added to my list of top book boyfriends (because if you’ve read it, you know). and the tension between them had me clutching my Kindle like it was a lifeline. The way Britt weaves mystery, magic, and emotion together is seriously next level.

The world-building was so vivid and layered that I kept stopping to piece things together—and then immediately realizing I was wrong again. I love a book that keeps me guessing like this one did. By the time I hit that ending, I was yelling “no way” out loud and wondering how long I’ll have to wait until book two. It’s wild, twisty, and full of characters you’ll obsess over long after you close it.

This book pulled me in from the beginning. Not only does it have a fantastic, female, main character Clara. It has a wonderful cast of side characters that you will love more than life. There are fun, twists, and turns along the way and an ending that will leave you a little speechless, and wanting more.

Was this the best book I’ve ever read? No. Did I squeal in the delight throughout the entire thing? Yes. For me part of it was being written in first person and I have just really grown to like third person better especially for fantasy but that is a personal preference.

The story is gripping and there are lots of little easter throughout that keep you strung along and the reveals at the end are worth it. I don’t like when I read a book, and all the Easter eggs lead up to a reveal of nothing, and that definitely was not the case in this book.

Overall I would give this book 3 1/2 stars and 1-2 chili peppers. There’s not a lot of spice, but the spice that is written is good and I appreciate that.

From each story line trope, to the cliffhangers, and the spice, I’m excitedly awaiting book two to take me back into Clara’s world.
