When Takeru's crush Miki gets scouted for a bit part in a movie, he takes a job on the set to protect her from the dangers of show business, including the wiles of a the dashing lead actor. Takeru soon discovers he wasn't over-reacting when Sherdog witnesses a real-life murder.
"Hello, my dear Watson." The dog spoke! Takeru took a dog home from the pound, and he turned out to be Sherlock Holmes! But apparently Takeru is the only one who can understand him speak. Named for Sherlock Holmes, but with a canine spin, Sherdog and his master Takeru find them- selves surrounded by mysterious crimes in modern-day Japan!!
I do come across the strangest of books in our local charity shop and this was something I couldn't resist as they had the first two volumes.
The premise is simple. The spirit of the master detective, Sherlock Holmes has reincarnated into the body of a rescue dog. Convinced that his adoptive parent Takeru Wajima is in-fact the reincarnation of trusted sidekick Doctor John Watson, Sherlock opens up communication with the now very confused student.
When Sherlock, aka Sherdog, witnesses another murder, this time on the set of a film, the pair are thrown into a game of cat and mouse with the killer who seems prepared for all the accusations that they can muster.
Utterly charming and surprisingly good. I just have to wait for the postman to bring me the remaining volumes, which have been purchased from eBay. These are going to be my New Year treat. stars.
Etsiväkoira Sherdock on jännä tapaus.
This was an improvement on volume 1, so I nudged the star-rating one notch.
These aren't really mysteries in the classic sense (so far). Sherdog knows who the crook is because he either witnessed the crime or was in close proximity and sees the villain. The challenge is to locate enough clues so that Takeru Wajima (Watson) will be able to convince the police to arrest the right person. This structure works reasonably well.
This book revolves around the (big) case of a murdered actress. Amazing.
The two side cases, Mr. Picture-Without-Consent and the Ireland-Robber, were cute little intermissions. I really love how wrong Sherdog was in the first case!
3.5 stars I liked the first book and how it gave you the murderer and then they solved it, but I don't want to see that for every addition to the series. The first crime was interesting but the second seemed to just be kind of random.
I enjoyed the first mystery of this volume. However, I really found the second mystery to be uncomfortable, so I didn't enjoy it. I will, however, be continuing the series, since each mystery is begun and solved within its volume.
I find the series to be a lot of fun. It's got some issues but the central ideas are pretty good and I like the mysteries. Some good stuff here, if there are occasional stumbles, too.
This is such a fun series. And, it almost always makes me feel like reading some of Case Closed (*Detective Conan*) as well. The solutions to the mysteries in this series are usually a little easier than those in the *Detective Conan* series. But, what I really enjoy here is watching the solutions play out.
Still a great, cute series. I think it's interesting that almost all of the crimes are witnessed by Sherdog so the deductions made are more about catching the criminal than figuring out who the criminal is. It makes this a little bit different than other series, but I do hope we see a little bit of variety in future volumes.
I loved this one even more than the first one. If not for the first chapter, it would've gotten a 5. The first chapter has Sherdog being rather out of character for laughs, but I didn't care for it...
