Every year in America, thousands of women disappear never to be seen again, and one man has dedicated his life to finding them...
Humble Walker has an amazing gift rooted deep in an ancient Navajo legend. It's a power that may be as limitless as his imagination, if he could only learn how to control it.
Waging a clandestine war in the shadows of the New York City underground, Humble has taken on an unassuming drug research facility, abducting women for nefarious mind control experiments. They're powerful, corrupt, and have perfected a brain-altering narcotic like the world has never seen.
Beautiful and spunky Kat Carson is the latest victim. Taken from her comfortable suburban life, she represents a tipping point in the ongoing battle, but all she wants is her life back. With the help of Humble and a small band of refugees, she has a fighting chance.
Even with the best plans, things can go horribly wrong. Unthinkable betrayal derails their efforts and backs them into a corner. But, that is the one place you don't want to put Humble Walker.

What a really GREAT book. It has an intriguing, interesting story, with a lot of funky, shity shit going on. The characters come to know each other under less than opportune circumstances, yet work together in a common goal. They seem to reach their initiative (yet there is another book) so....!! Well I'm going to read the next book, I am anticipating another great one.
So I wrote this huge detailed review on my kindle, and because my kindle must hate me even though I love it for whatever reason it went "poof" before I had a chance to post it up. Lesson learned there. So this one is going to be straight to the point. . .probably.
I didn't quite like this book but I really didn't hate it either. I was really into the entire read until about half way through. I started to lose real interest after Kat had this mind vision session with Humble and nothing really came from it at all. I was all excited about it, then had disappointment. I lost even more interest when Dax decided to not trust Kat because she was jealous. Mainly this is because we all knew Kat was innocent of everything Dax thought because we read from her point a view from time to time, and the author would have had to do a really crazy amazing twist that wouldn't have worked if she wasn't. So it was annoying to listen to the reasons why Dax didn't trust her.
I feel like if the author decided to not do the entire book from every major players point of view it would have kept my interest longer. If he wanted wanted to do the jealousy angle Kats point of view should have been much more limited or not there at all, so at least we could have maybe believed she was really planted to ruin everything. A lot of the time I rushed through certain point of views to get to the more interesting ones. I didn't want to hear about everything that was going on from every direction. Just seemed kinda pointless to me.
I did like Humbles vortex eye thing, even though it was never really explained. It was still pretty neat, and when he really started to get control of everything it made it pretty awesome. I would have really liked to learn more about them, but I understood that Humble only knew as much as we did.
I liked the ending to a point. The last little bit of the book felt like a poor set up for book number two. Everything got wrapped up really well, and I'm really not interested in knowing exactly why someone was kidnapped, especially when I was satisfied with the answer already given. I just can't see it making a good number two kind of book.
The subject matter of the book was disturbing, it was just on the side of believable. I can actually see something like this really happening. So had a real creep factor going with it.
I guess I got a little more into this then I thought I would. I mean it was an alright book, just a little annoying at times and it tended to get boring for me.
Would I recommend this book? Probably not. It just didn't keep my interest long enough, and sadly I'll probably forget most of this book within the next few hours.
I have to think on this one before I give a review. Ok I thought on it some and here is my review for what it is worth. 4/8/13 I chose Revenge of the Taken because of the neat cover art and it was free from Amazon. Beware this book is science fiction. No Romance at all, and one close encounter between two of the characters. I felt that it had a decent storyline, and with some unique story elements; but unfortunate this book wasn't for me.
It does take you into the action from the very beginning, a young woman Kat, running for her life from a man that is using women to do experimental drugs on, to make the perfect human robot. Humble is a guy, that has made it his mission to save these women. I have to say I did like Humbles vortex eyes, even though it was never really explained. But from there the rest of the story was lacking, maybe it was that the characters lacked any depth. I felt that the author failed to allow the reader to care or get to know anything about the characters, it was just good guy against bad guy, a few battles and that's it. I didn't get emotionally involved with them so I didn't connect with this book at all.
An unusual story that kept me engrossed to the last page. I did however feel as if the story was a little unfinished (and as yet there is no Humble Walker book 2). Some questions I have about Humble and Kat are still unanswered.
Not my typical read but it kept my attention & I am waiting for the next book. I enjoy anything paranormal/sci-fi but tend to gravitate towards the romance books. I loved the idea of a man empowering women that he's helped to right wrongs against them & others.
Was surprised how much I enjoyed this book! I love scifi movies, but was not sure about reading scifi books. I will certainly read more. I look forward to the next one in this series!
Revenge of the Taken is a fun book with interesting characters. It weaves a world of plausible(ish) science, sex trafficking, human trafficking, and native spiritism in an intelligent manner. The romance threads are not overdone, though there was one unnecessary sex scene. This is the quintessential good versus evil story where some good might have a shadow of bad. But, in this story, the bad is truly bad. The narrative concludes with some closure but with possibilities for new threads to be woven into future stories. I’m glad I read this book
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
This book took off from page one and didn't stop. The book covers the disappearance of young women from all over the country with no explanation. In this book however, our hero, Humble Walker knows why and intends to stop it. This is where the story gets interesting because there are several plot twist, surprises, love interest, and cliff hangers to keep the reader more than invested in the story.
I liked this story,it's a great start to a series with the action perking along, even though the idea of what was going in the story was deplorable. First of all this is a story about young women who have been abducted and about the hero, Humble Walker who works for an organization of people trying to save the girls. Humble Walker has eyes with vortexes that light up and he seems to move in double time. The vortex eyes weren't very well explained, were we just supposed to guess how he had this power? And why wasn't he able to use his powers effectively all the time? All the same, Walker was strong and memorable. I really liked him, but the women characters weren't as likeable. Also, I'm not sure what was up with the women--Dax not trusting Kat, which seemed suspicous but was it just meant to throw readers off about who was really a turncoat? The end was a surprise. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
What If? You go to work like any other day then suddenly wake up on plane going who knows where with men that are determined to get you there. You slip away from them only to find that your life as you knew it was over. Every step takes you closer and closer to danger and you still do not understand the question of why me. In the end you only find out there are more questions than answers and the life you hope to get back was not at all what it was supposed to be. Very good book. Humble Walker the Navajo that also had his life taken by other means wants nothing more to help! He will take you on a ride you will not soon forget! Once you pick up this book it does tend to start a bit slow then suddenly your dragged in until the end. It does have several typos but they are easily looked over as you read. would recommend this book to anyone over age 14 only due to graphic nature!
I got this book for my Kindle Fire because the synopsis of the story interested me. The cover that I saw though (see above), looked more like a romance novel cover. There is an alternate cover, which I thought fit the book better but this is a minor quibble. The story was decent and I may give the next Humble Walker book a try, as well. There are several editing errors which, to me, always interrupts the flow of reading, especially when you're into an action scene and then you have to stop because a word or words don't make sense. I would suggest a human editing books because this book appears that someone just ran it through a spellchecker program. Overall I did like the story and I would expect a little more fleshing out of the Humble Walker character in future books.
I wish I could give this a better review. Or at least another half star. I liked the story, but there were way too many editorial errors. They detracted from the story, as I would often have to go back and read a sentence or paragraph over again.
Other problems I had: The ending was too rushed. The author spent the whole book saying Humble couldn't figure out how to control his eyes and therefore, his powers, but then suddenly, with no explanation, he has figured it all out and goes on to save the day. And then there was the sex scene at the end. Really? Was that necessary? It really did not further the storyline. It felt rather gratuitous.
Don't think I will bother any more by this author.
I enjoyed the matter of fact way this was written. This is definitely different from other books I have read. A guy who comes out of no where and rescues a girl from being abducted. He is a hero and yet there is nothing else just a factual display of information for us. He displays no emotion or opinion just facts about the women he saves and the enemies he wants to destroy. I believe it is a story of black and white with no grey areas.
That's ok I enjoyed it and it kept me interested. But I couldn't relate to the characters or see any bonds.
Really good premise for a story, although I found the book a bit lacking in character development. The plot was excellent and kept me reading, but the relationships seemed shallow. A good read, I'd like to see more personal relationships with all the action.
