Jericho is a dream-filled dialogue between two brothers. Rich in imagery and humor, it has been called "masterful", and "dazzling." Author Anais Nin referred to the depth of the writing as "bottom of the sea level," and others have said it "re-arranges vision in the way cubism does." Long out of print, Jericho is now available in a digital version. Experience for yourself the unique voice in this debut offering from multi-talented writer and musician, Anson Wright. In addition to a distinguished career in the jazz world, he has authored a book of poetry, Sandstone Monastery, and Openings, a book of selected writing published with funding from the National Endowment of the Arts.
Writer, jazz guitarist, composer, and educator, Anson Wright graduated from Princeton University, then moved to New York City where at the age of twenty six he completed his novel, Jericho. His second book, Openings, was published with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Anson’s first full-length poetry book, Sandstone Monastery, was released in 2004. He spends most of his professional life as a jazz guitarist and jazz educator based in Portland, Oregon. In addition to CD’s highlighting his jazz compositions, Anson’s finger-style guitar compositions have been choreographed and performed in modern dance, and his poetry has been set to modern dance and to music. He has taught at numerous schools including New York University, Pacific University, and Portland Community College. For further information please visit www.ansonwright.com
This book is a masterpiece. Originally published nearly forty years ago, Anson Wright has produced a book that is at once challenging, profound and hilarious. A tale of interweaving consciousness' told by two brothers about incidents in their lives, enjoyably dosed with magical realism. The author invites us to revisit the paradoxes of intimate relationships, sibship and family loyalties never allowing us settle into a simple or singular viewpoint. Readers and those studying to be writers will find inspiration in the author’s style. He keeps us and his characters moving, leaves us with more questions than conclusions, yet strangely satisfied. I was fascinated and engaged throughout this book. 2016
