Nick Caine #2

Treasure of the Deep

Rate this book
Nick Caine is a part-time archaeologist and full-time antiquities thief—a looter. And a very good one, too.

Now stranded on a small, forgotten island in the southern Maldives, Nick Caine and his ever-faithful sidekick Ishi are thrown into a desperate fight for survival. Seemingly betrayed by Marie Da Vinci, Nick is forced to gamble his and Ishi’s very existence on an ancient map. The parchment document promises an incredible horde of hidden pirate treasure.

The very words are music to a looter's ears—except the duo aren't the only ones interested in the hidden treasure. Modern day pirates are on the scene, and it's going to take all of Nick Caine’s unflappable charisma to bail them out this time. The stakes quickly escalate, leaving Nick and Ishi very little time to narrow down the map’s clues. Soon, their fate and that of an exotic Maldivian beauty named Norema hang in a precarious balance…proving once again that looting is a deadly business.

Treasure of the Deep
Nick Caine, Book 2
By: J.R. Rain, Aiden James
Narrated by: Graydon Schlichter

This is short adventure book I received from freeaudiblecodes and the review is voluntary. I found it interesting and enjoyable. It was a bit too short to get too involved in the characters. Plenty of action and the plot was ok but so predictable. I would give this a 3 1/2 and rounded up.
The narrator was fair to good.
Worth the listen.

I found the first book in this series to be fairly okay. Enough to make me interested enough to try out this, the second, book.

This is also a quite short novella although a bit longer than the previous one which I think is good. I much prefer full sized novellas.

However, while I was hoping that the first one was a bit of a trial or something and that this series would now kind of advance and become a bit more developed for lack of a better word.

Unfortunately my review of this book can be summarized in the note I made a bit more than 40% into the book which is “Bloody amateur hour in a rather contrived and messy plot”.

We keep being told that Caine is a looter and that he is a “very good one”. Well, he may be a looter but good he is not. He stumbles around and most of his successes is more or less by pure luck. The plot is both simple and contrived at the same time. The entire story is like a script for a cheap adventure TV show for young adults or possibly not very demanding adults.

I think this is another series that goes in the will not continue bin.

This second book was ok. Bad pirates and pirates gold and an ending that’s just about forces you to go buy the 3rd book if you want to know what happens next. No, not this time thank you very much.

In this books Nick, Marie, and Ishi have traveled to the Maldives to search for hidden treasure. Although when Nick and Ishi wake up the morning after they arrived Marie was gone. She had taken their plane and left. At least she left them with a weeks worth of supplies. Next thing they know, Nick and Ishi are held at gunpoint by women dressed in Indian clothes.

After these women take Nick and Ishi back to their camp at gunpoint they meet Norema. A beautiful woman who reminds nick of Marie. Nick learns that there are Pirates that rule the island and by landing on the island they had basically signed their death warrant. Nick eventually makes a deal with Norema. If he helps her get her son back from the pirate Badri, who had taken the women's sons and made them his slaves.

Once they get to the cave where Badri and his band of pirates lived they thought they found the jackpot of treasure. They find Norema's son but with some terrible loses involved. Their reunion results in them being chased by Badri's pirates and they eventually get caught. It once again takes Smarts and some quick thinking and Amazing leadership from Nick for them to get away.

With Norema and the others now gone Nick and Ishi are once again on the run from Badri and his pirates. After a showdown in the cave of treasures between Nick and Badri, Marie of all people shows up to save the day.

This book was just as AMAZING as the first one.. There is never a dull moment in the Nick Caine books. If they aren't on the fun from someone or something there are always some funny situations and some majorly witty comments to hold us over. I highly RECOMMEND this book but it's best to start off with book 1!

This book was considerably better compared to the first book since the progression of the story seemed more believable.
In this book, the same characters are together again, but this time they're searching for pirates gold located on an island in the Maldives. Upon waking up on the island one morning, Nick and Ishi find they're other companion, Marie, has left them currently stranded on the island with some supplies and a treasure map. They decide to look for the treasure, having their hesitations. Immediately, unexpected events occur that lead them fighting, and running, for their lives. This book is a great addition to the story, and I can't wait to get to the next book in the series!

Another great short story by J.R. Rain and Aiden James. Their writing keeps me on the edge of my seat. Nick Caine's girlfriend, Marie Da Vinci, is always pushing them to explore for treasures her late father wasn't able to find before his death. Of course these adventures end up leading to danger and near death. In this story, Marie leaves them stranded on an island inhabited by Maldivian exotic women and pirates. Always waiting to see what surprise happens next and how Nick and Ishi get out of these predicaments. Treasure of the Deep is an easy, fast, enjoyable book.

Again this book was a lot of fun to read. Also, like the first, it was fast paced and just as full of action. Seemingly deserted on one of the Maldives by his new found friend Maria. Nick and Ishi go off in search of hidden treasure. Only to be captured by a bunch of women, who have had their children and men abducted by vicious pirates. Nick, the looter with a heart of gold agrees to help recapture the abductees. For a share of the treasure of course.

I adore the Nick Caine books! A simple yet elegant read - Nick is a character I can feel down to my bones. He is believable as a human while being totally fictional in his situations. This was a pleasant way to meet my challenge read for "can read in a day". I actually started it when I was comfortably situated for a 1 1/2 hour pedicure and finished it about 20 minutes before my pampering was complete. I cannot wait for the next quick read with Nick!

It was fun to return to the adventures of Nick and Ishi, and I found it very interesting that this book picked up where the first book finished. I liked the characters that they interacted with in this book and the outcome of the story lines. It was fast-paced, and I listened to it in one sitting. I look forward to starting on book 3 soon!

This is turning into a promising series, following the exploits of Nick and Ishi, stranded on a remote Maldavian island witha suspect treasure map and a band of what seem to be unfriendly women and a ruthless band of pirates all out to stop Nick and Ishi . Looking forward to the next installment.

A little disappointed in this one. I guess the storyline was to lead me into the third of the series, but I felt like the story in this book was lost. Too much action, not enough character development. I am assuming that is to come.
