Shortly after the conclusion of the War of 2018, the mechanical evolution of humankind made a dramatic leap forward.
With the Human Guerilla Faction no longer a threat, a biotech company, Lazarus Nanotech Corporation, went from competing to stay in the top ten, to top contender after introducing their revolutionary NanoInjections system.
NIs were designed to wipe the slate of traditional internal surgery, and go far beyond it. NIs—composed of targeted nanomachines—could be preprogrammed and injected into the client to vastly transform the client’s body in any chosen manner. Weight loss, facial reconstruction, breast and genital enhancement, intelligence boosters, social elitist; whatever the client desired.
Soon, NIs became a major vanity movement, and Lazarus Nanotech became the most valuable company in the world.
This success, of course, spawned an entirely new criminal underworld: the Nano Black Market.
Scores of otherwise innocent bystanders suddenly became obsessed with NI perfection, but as the process became exceptionally expensive, with specialty clinics charging top dollar, the Nano Black Market suddenly seemed a viable option to one’s desires: To continue the ascension of one’s social hierarchy.
Criminals augmented with Limb Replacement Therapy and adjusted NIs became powerful elements.
Lazarus, not one to allow the proliferation of their most valuable asset, made the retaliatory strike—off the books.
They hired the former leader of their political enemy—General Herbert Mann of the Human Guerilla Faction—and began to assemble an army…
