more depth to the plot than would appear in a typical fighting fantasy gamebook... however the a number of minor inconsistencies in the story structure. game play is good however, with the rules complimenting the story. Four stars

This last book in the series failed the mark due to being uncompleteable unfortunately. Try as I might I just could not get out of a loop in the events, returning to the same paragraphs no matter how I tried different options. Perhaps returning to a much earlier branching point not as far deep into the abyss that is the rift from which all evil emanated from would have worked. I could not be bothered though. A pity as I could not reach the finale of this six part series, where you head into the underworld on a rescue mission. Game testers are di rigeur in these things, and I figured the writer and editors had not bothered before publication, riding on the success of the previous titles.

Overall, I wish the series had focused more on individual adventuring instead of the big picture large scale events, which, though innovative, did not have the same excitement. With such a large imaginary world with a multitude of interesting and varied locations and beings to work with, the possibilities are boundless.
