Rate this book
Teenager Destiny Harper is at a crossroads in her life. Graduation is coming and she has zero prospects for the future. I picked this up at NewYork ComicCon 2013. It was such an interesting cover and the girl who was there signing (the illustrator) was so cute and exciting in explaining it I could not resist.

I am a comic book collector, as well as a book reader so this was perfect.

It is 23 pages and two chapters. It is about a teenager, Destiny Harper, who has her High School graduation coming and nothing on the horizon. so she goes to her favorite place - The Knight Pawn - an antique store, where she feels at home and free. It is here she purchases a special locket that will open up a whole new world to her.

A world overrun by Vampyre babies called Vamplets. A world where she is transported to after answering and ad for "The Night Care Nursery". Which happens to be in Gloomvania where creatures lurk about, and everything is opposite. For example, cute dogs are horrors, but large talking insects are cute.

She thinks she is dreaming and that this cannot be real. Luckily she has Rasket to watch out for her.

As she decides she no longer wants this job, especially after seeing what the babysitting entails, she is told if she does not comply, she cannot go home. So she does her best until one of the babies gets away at a fare and we have a to be continued.

I cannot wait for the next issue to come out!! I do not know if they are doing hardcover (I was lucky to get a signed, limited edition cover from ComicCon). Although it may seem like I told you everything, comic book readers will understand you have to look at the illustrations and pick up the story line to get the full effect. There is nothing is even written that is someway or another not already written on the back of the book.

I would pick this one up it is very interesting and graphically very well done.

I bought this at the NYC BookCon last week because the cover was appealing and the name sounded like fun. I'm not much of a graphic novel reader but I've been trying to find at least one I like. This one was the wrong one to buy.

Despite the fact that it's written for little kids, the dialog is way TOO silly and sometimes it doesn't even make sense. It feels as if nothing was connected to what was said before. It's like... someone asks a question and then next text is not the answer but something unrelated instead. I didn't like it.

The MAIN story plot was okaysh. It's cute, it's entertaining and a little funny. The "problem" is pretty different from other things I've read and everything, BUT the characters are super dumb. And not the funny type of dumb, just plainly dumb.

And I feel like they should've taken some extra time to work on the storyboard of this thing.

The art style is cute. Some particular expressions I didn't like (too exaggerated compared to the rest of them) but the majority of it was okay. I do love the pink and purple combination.

I guess all in all, it wasn't a terrible story and I don't think it was a waste of money, but I won't continue with the saga and I don't recommend it for anyone older than ten.

Me gustó bastante.

A super cute comic line. I was always an outcast in school so I love these characters. Can't wait to keep reading. Wish there were more than what there is. Not bad for kids.

A very cute and funny intro to the world of Vamplets. Welcome to Gloomvania indeed!
Definitely keen to see where this all goes and how Destiny copes when she finally meets the little terrors at Nightmare Nursery.

There’s a new and strange phenomenon happening in the supernatural world of Gloomvania. Vampires, merely by expressing their love, are manifesting babies. Since most of them were not expecting children, they simply cannot spend the 777 years it takes to raise a vampire baby. So they are sent off to a home. The little vamps, werewolves, and other adorable ghoulish creatures are a handful. One loves to invent, one is psychic, one is a destructive artist, and another is, yes, a baby vampire weapon’s expert.

Enter human Destiny. She answers an ad for babysitting services and finds herself transported to Gloomvania, a non-stinky stinkbug as her companion. She is brought to the home where the supernatural babies are kept and soon realizes that she is in for more than she bargained.
She takes the children to a bizarre bazaar and chaos ensues. Destiny acquires the assistance of a talking shrunken head on what exactly needs to be purchased for baby ghouls. When her back is turned, the children book it out of their carriage and head out to commit carnage baby-style.

The color art of the comic is very lovely. The color palette sticks to the colors you would associate with a world called Gloomvania. You get lots of purple and blue, with the adorable addition of pink. After all, these are babies. The way the babies are drawn are the best part because they are adorable, and yet it is quite obvious the sort of monsters they are. The illustrators are top notice and this first volume did not let me down as far as plot development and action.

Wonderful illustrations and coloring highlights this disjointed story. I understand that this is just the first book and it is setting the stage for the premise, but is it boring with characters that are not interesting nor likable.

It needed some over the top slapstick humor with monster puns in order to get the ball rolling in the direction of a fun and silly story.

I bought this book at Chico Con 2017 a few days ago because the cover was incredible. Quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever read. A must read for fans of cute gothic comics and graphic novels.

Cute quick read, but I felt a little lost. Almost like I walked into a series but this was the first book. I will look for the next one though.

Having a hell of a time with this review, been a few days since I finished it. I really like it but the ending felt unfinished to me, sort of. Don't want to spoil so you will have to read it and see for yourself. The story was interesting and at the same time unique. Like any graphic novel things seemed to move quickly though the chapters. The art work was very well done and added to the richness of the story. The characters were lovable and kooky. Nothing cuter than Vampire Babies.

Do you like My Little Pony? How about Littlest Pet Shop? Maybe Monster High? Then this is the book you must have to quench your taste as it pretty much takes all three, adds a child-friendly macabre twist and wraps around it an exciting story. It takes everything that is liked, animals, fantasy, and humans, and makes this a fun and entertaining story for all ages!

The book is fully colorized with high glossy pages and the use of color schemes provides an exquisite fantasy appeal, while the story line lays itself masterfully plays throughout each page. The detail of both characters and the world are eye catching and easily captivating. I was quite pleased that it was a hardback book and 9x11 inches. This gives it added durability for all ages, and means it won't get bent and folded when put into backpacks; something that happens for us with paperback. Having the extra size is a nice perk as it gives more detail to the pictures and story.

Destiny Harper is a teenager with big emotional anime eyes. She is easy to relate to as she is dressed down and looks comfortable. This gives young girls a positive female character to look upon without putting focus on sex and looks. The little Vamplets are so cute. It's as if Littlest Pet Shop stepped through the looking glass into the land of Monsters. They're absolutely adorable, but who doesn't like baby vampires? You can go to the Vamplet website and actually purchase stuffed Vamplets and other accessories. (See more below)

The only complaint us girls had was the story abruptly ended, but of course, that is for a reason! This book just introduces you to the franchise and of course gets you all worked up for what is coming next. I am not sure just yet what all is in the Vamplet future, but I know we are already hoping for figurines, animated movies, and a series.

With Halloween and Christmas coming up, why would you not want to give your little creatures a book and plushie that you know nobody else will have. Get on this bandwagon before the rest of the world!

Vamplets also has an interactive website and is also active on Facebook and Twitter!

I actually got this as part of a Kickstarter promotion so i got the one with the limited Convention cover. It collects the first 2 issues of the comic book series.

This is a very light comic series. Vampire(and other monsters) are having babies spontaneously appear. Since they do not want to raise these little monsters(it takes 777 years to raise a baby vampire), they are all being dumped into the nursery. So where will they get a nursery keeper? Why naturally go to the mortal world and get a teenage girl of course.

Beautiful if cartoony artwork. Not much actually happens in either issue of the comic. This is based on the Vamplet plush creations--sold separately. If you aren't familiar with Vamplets- think stuffed animals...err- monsters for the Goth kids.

Nice gift for fans of Vamplets or your Goth friends who like a little cute.

The caretakers of the Nightmare Nursery in Grimmvania have had it with their charges. They decided to search the outworld for a replacement. Meanwhile in the land of the living, young Destiny Harper is unsure what she wants to do with her life. She is somewhat of a loner and is tired of her job at Hotdog on a Stick. As she is browsing her favorite vintage thrift shop a necklace draws her attention. After purchasing it, the trinket garners the attention of the seeker from Grimmvania. Now Destiny is in a strange new world that she isn't even sure is real or a dream. Yet she makes the best of it with the help of some new friends. This graphic novel series is funny and quirky. There is some monster humor and gross references, but a clean series for 3rd graders on up through middle school and high school. Fans of Monster High and O'Reilly's Mighty Mighty Monsters series will enjoy Vamplets.

I bought this novel at a convention. As I was purchasing this novel and Princeless, an ~8year old girl shows up to show the creators of the series her fan art for the books--which was really quite good and completely adorable.

It's pretty easy to turn back time and read this novel with your own 8-year-old frame of mind. Yes, I would have loved this. Yes, it is a perfect segway between babysitter's club and R.L. Stein/Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark/etc. The art is even classic middle-schooler girl style.

And who doesn't love a novel about a babysitter suddenly being stuck babysitting a bunch of baby monsters?

I picked this up today at Scholastic on the grounds that the cover alone will make it popular with students in grades 4-5. I read it because it was with teen books, do I needed to make sure it was OK for them. So, it was fine for older elementary kids. It is the story of Destiny Harper, a misfit teen girl who finds herself hoodwinked into becoming the nanny for the vampire, zombie, and werewolf babies of Gloomvania. I found the story a bit confusing - which I often find graphic novels to be - but I gave it a third star because I think students will like it.

This graphic novel is aimed at young girls who enjoy reading supernatural stories. The graphics are pink, and purple. The concept seems to be about how challenging it can be to babysit vampire babies without making mistakes that may risk the main characters life. Destiny has to find a way out the supernatural world safely without risking her life. The only way she can succeed is coming up with a strategy to take care of the vampire babies in her care. Altogether the story was meh. It is a typical story about a girls first time babysitting, and how challenging babysitting can be.
