I found this to be uplifting and also practical. As a nurse myself, I could find some of the stories relatable. I loved Allyson’s voice.

Amazing Read

Thank you, Allyson Golden for the opportunity to read your book. This was an incredible read. In this devotional, we are instructed on How to Be a Light in a Dark World. We currently are going through periods of strife, conflict, and division. This devotional teaches us to trust in God’s plan and focus on how God’s presence can change perspective. We have to encourage others to come to the Lord when they go through difficult circumstances by practicing ways to shine God’s light into their lives. Also, I loved the lessons that this devotional has taught me was beautiful, thought-provoking, and motivating. I hope that I can inspire more people to follow God and be a light to share God’s Word and light. I cannot wait to read more books by Allyson Golden. Overall, an amazing read.

Allyson Golden has written a true gem of a book. As a pediatric nurse she sees both life and death every working day. She longed to bring the light of Christ into the room of every patient. She began to search the scriptures and found that the only light we have to shine comes from Christ. We are the vessels through which His light shines. The book answers the deep questions that believers have:

I was greatly inspired by reading this book. I couldn’t put it down once I picked it up because I felt that I was learning so much. Author Allyson Golden has a wonderful, engaging writing style. She is able to share passionate, descriptive stories with readers that they can relate to and then guides them towards steps to be the light shining forth in the world around them. The end of each chapter provides readers with tools that teach them exactly how to do just that – to be a shining light. The reader is not left wondering HOW to apply their new found knowledge and understanding. Rather, they are equipped with the resources and guidance necessary to move them forward in their spiritual journey. Included in these tools are five elements: listen with purpose, practice intentionality, use gestures, have a good heart posture, and talk with kindness. But the book has so much more than just these tools and inspirational stories. It has the power to transform your walk and your life. This is a must read for anyone looking for a way to make a difference in their world. You, too, can be the light in your world. Begin by drawing closer to God and then let Allyson teach you how to truly shine.

Arise and Shine by author Allyson Golden is an encouraging Christian Living book. The author urges readers to become a beacon of light and hope in a world often overshadowed by darkness and pain. Rich with scripture and Christian insight, this is a thought provoking book.

The author has a pleasant style of writing. It is easy to understand and follow. Her book is part autobiography, telling her story, and part encouragement, explaining that who you are can light up a room and make others' lives better. This fresh approach is captivating.

Chapters are designed with questions for small group discussion or personal journaling. There is much to read and digest in this. It would make a great group study. The questions are profound and leave room for much discussion.

I highly recommend this book. It has stuck with me long after finishing it. A copy was provided by NetGalley, but these are my honest words.

I got the privilege of being part of the book launch group, so I got to read some chapters early. This book came at just the time I needed. It was such a God sent book, and I immediately had to put down other Christian books I was reading to finish this one. I needed to hear and be convicted of things this book touched on. I annotated SO much of this book to refer back to at some point. There is so much of God’s word in this book to back up everything she says. She does such a great job of pointing you back to God’s word. This will definitely be one of my top Christian book recommendations to people. I think everyone needs to read this book.

Forgot to mark this one as finished oops.. this was a REALLY great read. Her vulnerability in the writing about dwelling in darkness and how she leans into the Lord (and other helpful things!) to remind her of her purpose and light that she carries was really beautiful to read about. Even if you are not a believer, this book serves as a great guide for clearing the haze, quieting the noise, and honing in on the strength and power of your character and what we as people are designed and meant for in life.
Fast forward to now (June 2024) I am actually reading this again, with the author Allyson, in a virtual book club and it is AWESOME!!

Allyson Golden writes from the heart in this book of shining light in the darkest of places. She reminds us that we ALL can be a source of light & hope in this dark world. But it's only THROUGH JESUS that we can do that. She immersed herself in scripture and tells us how we were put on this Earth to shine the light of Christ where only WE can shine it. So beautifully written & brought tears to my eyes.

I read this because I am trying to build my connection with God again. This book touched on a lot of the feelings that I have been experiencing and is a good reminder that we should put God first in both positive and negative situations in our life. God is our number one, not whatever is going on in our life even if we want to put us first. I was excited to get an advance copy of "Arise and Shine" by Allyson Golden because I follow her on social media and like the quotes she posts on a regular basis - they usually resonate with me every time. I wasn't sure what to expect since I've never read anything written by her aside from 1-2 sentence quotes. I appreciated the real-life examples the author used and her quoting of scripture. That said, I felt the book read more like a chapter-by-chapter book report, and there were so many references and quotes from other notable authors that it felt like she was regurgitating their content. Don't get me wrong, she had several one-liners that were fantastic, and those are what she uses on her social media posts and what drew me into wanting to read her book in the first place. #NetGalley

I listened to the audiobook earlier this year. In June I joined Allyson's book club, bought the book and really enjoyed reading along each week. It really hit home and understanding when I physically read the book compared to listening to the audiobook which I also loved though. You feel the passion and love in Allyson's words. You feel the connection to the Lord through light. I recommend for anyone of all ages who just needs a little more light in their life.
