A Complaint Free World, Revised and Updated: Stop Complaining, Start Living

Rate this book
Now revised and updated for our modern world, the “complaint free” philosophy teaches you how to stop complaining, become more positive, and live the life you’ve always dreamed about.

It all started more than fifteen years ago with a simple purple bracelet.

Will Bowen passed out bracelets and offered people a If you catch yourself complaining, take the bracelet off and move it to the other wrist, thereby making yourself aware of just how often you complain. The end goal was to go twenty-one consecutive days without complaining. A Complaint Free World develops this idea further, offering practical advice and simple principles to transform your life for the better.

The philosophy started a movement, with millions committing to going twenty-one days and beyond without complaining, criticizing, or gossiping. Through changing their words, many found they had changed their thoughts, resulting in healed relationships, improved careers, and a higher level of happiness. A Complaint Free World explains what constitutes a complaint, why we complain, what benefits we think we receive from complaining, how complaining is destructive to our lives, and how we can get others around us to stop complaining.

In this revised and updated edition, Will presents the steps to becoming Complaint Free and addresses the modern issues that make it harder—and more worthwhile—than ever, including reflections on how the internet has changed how we complain (and how we can resist) and inspiring new testimonials from people who have improved their relationships, workplaces, and attitudes by becoming Complaint Free.

i listened to the audio version of this. It was well read and easy to understand. I liked parts of it and didn’t like other parts too much. It did speak to me. i feel inspired to complain less, to complain not at all, and that is something i’m taking away from this book.

I didn’t agree with everything that was said. but it still inspired me.

Pretty good. have been wanting to examine this sin for some time. Made me very aware of not only my own complaints, but how often my husband complains. This book taught me in no gentle way that complaining only begets further complaining and negativity only darkens our perspective, weighs us down and further helps us "examine" and focus on what we don't like, and further away from solutions.

I have a purple bracelet and it's been four days, honestly back on day 1. (you'll have to read the book to understand but the Day one, back to day one, is all part of Bowen's method and the purple bracelet is the tool.

Now, the common catchphrase around the house is "day one!" and now have even caught myself saying to my husband... You need a bracelet!

I don't know... we are all works in progress BUT when we think that some problems are exacerbated only because of something we can have control over (complaining) well, that's both terrifying and empowering.

If you're curious, I encourage you to read the book. At the very least, my perspective has shifted to one of great (and pained) yet necessary awareness, esp. b/c I've been talking about doing this for years.

I enjoyed this one and read half and listened to half through Spotify. It made me reflect a lot on how much complaining I do.😬 Very thought provoking!
