This Step 1 reader derives from a poem by the author of Goodnight Moon, children's literature legend Margaret Wise Brown. Its simple vocabulary, rhyme and rhythm, and vivid picture clues make it perfect for emergent readers, introducing them to an inviting underwater world and a successful reading experience! G. Brian Karas has created absolutely gorgeous art vignettes to showcase the incredibly varied fish and the kids who love them.
Step 1 Readers feature big type and easy words for children who know the alphabet and are eager to begin reading.
Margaret Wise Brown wrote hundreds of books and stories during her life, but she is best known for Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Even though she died nearly 70 years ago, her books still sell very well.
Margaret loved animals. Most of her books have animals as characters in the story. She liked to write books that had a rhythm to them. Sometimes she would put a hard word into the story or poem. She thought this made children think harder when they are reading.
She wrote all the time. There are many scraps of paper where she quickly wrote down a story idea or a poem. She said she dreamed stories and then had to write them down in the morning before she forgot them.
She tried to write the way children wanted to hear a story, which often isn't the same way an adult would tell a story. She also taught illustrators to draw the way a child saw things. One time she gave two puppies to someone who was going to draw a book with that kind of dog. The illustrator painted many pictures one day and then fell asleep. When he woke up, the papers he painted on were bare. The puppies had licked all the paint off the paper.
Margaret died after surgery for a bursting appendix while in France. She had many friends who still miss her. They say she was a creative genius who made a room come to life with her excitement. Margaret saw herself as something else - a writer of songs and nonsense.
Very simple early reader. It describes different types of fish (not actual fish species but different colors etc). The pictures are ok, gets the job done for some reading practice and that’s about it.
silver fish/gold fish/black fish/old fish/young fish/fishy fish/any kind of fish a fish in a pond/a fish in a stream/a fish in the ocean/a fish in a dream/ I like fish
Too easy. Would not read again. Bought for my daughter's reading program. I wish we did not waste our money on it but, could not find author at the library.
Simple step one reading level book about fish. Fairly simple words for the beginner reader. Fun and simple illustrations. Not a story book. Not worth paying full price for. Fun extra early reading book for the early reader from the library!!
This was fun to read. I liked the low reading level - good for beginning readers, as was the repetition. It made me want to read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - but it didn’t feel like it was copying from Seuss. Very good!
