How do we, as Christians, unknowingly block the spread of the Gospel' Timothy George and John Woodbridge unpack the 'blockers' that get in the way. Ultimately, they teach that we must rely on the mark of Jesus - genuine, sacrificial love - to further the good news. A fresh new approach to evangelism.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
Timothy George is Dean at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He is also editor, together with his wife Denise, of the Library of Baptist Classics series. He previously was an associate professor of church history and historical theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky.
With its unflinching blitz on societal, and personal, issues facing today’s evangelical, this book seems to be balanced and effective. I was impressed and enjoyed George and Woodbridge's habit of dissecting issues that I usually don’t give much thought to. In their address of race, unity, hypocrisy, and fundamentalism they peel back the surface layers of understanding and aim for the core issues. These authors were able to show me gigantic problems without a hint of fatalism.
This book was not at all what I was expecting, and I’m glad of that. It captures today’s world very well, and though the authors focused on issues that have been persistent throughout the history of Christianity, they wrote with such relevance that certain sentences are already outdated. The content of this book would, I postulate, be effective for any Christian today in America, but periodical revisions would maintain its balance of universality through the ages and essential relevance.
