No one knows where the Parasytes came from or what their purpose is - not even the Parasytes themselves. Creatures of instinct, they occupy their human "hosts" and kill others for food or in self-defense. But one Parasyte has begun to ask why, and she may have found the answer. Now, the hunt is on her the mysterious Tamara Rockford. Parasytes believe that she's scheming agoinst them, the police think she's a mass murderer, and Lefty suspects that she may be the key to peace between Parasytes and humans. When everyone converges for a standoff in the public park, things are bound to get nasty. Let the showdown begin.

Surrounded (ch 52) had my heart beating so fast. I love the plan, and the fact that some people can see through it!!! Anxious to see the execution or just the outcome in general.
I'm gonna assume that the inner circle would be assigning the evacuees to the busses "randomly", so that it wouldn't be too obvious if it would only be the parasites being segregated.
The tension in Lighting the Flame of War (ch 53) is killing me!!
I loved the brutality from BOTH the humans and parasites (especially the humans) in Repression (ch 54) !! The leader of the military displayed ruthlessness, and the strongest parasites intrigue or curiosity. I wonder what the mayor meant when he said that he doesn't see any reason to escape: like he knows they can win or is he resigned to his fate whatever it may be.
This is also the first time I appreciated the art since I'm not too fond of the stylization here.
Wow. The twist in Parasite (ch 55) was really unexpected for me. I wish it was given the same weight as that strong parasite barging into the room. Kabuto is entertaining, but what's the point of his character??
Head (ch 56) was okay? From what I understood, Kuroro decided to retreat for awhile?? I am just weirded out by the fact that the military kept firing at him. Such waste of ammunition.
I was really enjoying Shinji spiraling in Hero (ch 57). Then boom! Unnecessary sex scene. Oh well, at least, Migi finally saw them do it.
I've been thinking about that dream Shinji had as well wherein he and Migi seemed to share this alien form. Like was that indicative of Shinji losing his humanity or them "being the same species". It also kinda gave off "last two people in the world" vibes.
I did not see Migi (ch 58) coming!!! I don't really care for Migi, but his character development is amazing. I'm touched by his sacrifice, loneliness, and gratitude.
I wonder what would happen to his cells that remained in Shinji's body though.

Synopsis: They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no one knows their secret - except an ordinary high school student. Shin is battling for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horrors to come?
Review: A very smoothly paced psychological thriller with creative action scenes, philosophical commentary and witty humor featuring body morphing parasites that use human body parts as hosts. The protagonist goes through some extreme character development at a rapid pace without feeling rushed, forcing himself to adjust from a once familiar world that now feels hostile and alien because of the parasite that has infiltrated his body and marked him as a target for bloodthirsty predators; both human and inhuman. Faced with impossible odds and countless moral dilemmas, Shin and his parasite Migi have no choice but to band together for the sake of their mutual survival. Seeing the extremes of every living creature and the cruelty that all species are capable of, you'll end the story with a few questions. "Who are the real monsters?" is just one of many.
It channels vibes from 1980's sci-fi horror flicks like John Carpenter's The Thing and even some of Junji Ito's bizarre and morbidly funny body horror. It's a great read for fans of retro horror that packs just the right amount of emotional and philosophical punches.

I am still not convinced that this series should not have ended with Volume 8. There were loose ends, which I figured were better than whatever resolution could be cooked up to tie them together. And I thought Migi, the parasyte living in Shin's right hand, had died. It was sad. But some part of him seems to have survived in Shin, although in a weakened condition. He sleeps through more and more of the action.
This new installment returns to the mysterious Reiko Tamura, the parasyte with an interest in how human and parasyte might learn to coexist. Much of which boils down to whether or not parasytes can control their taste for human flesh. Several installments ago, Reiko stole a human baby -- I think it belonged to the human she possessed. It is now her bargaining chip with Shin and the detective that are on to her. This episode ends up with most of the main characters meeting up in a park where the requisite amount of blodshed and weird body transformations ensue.
Starting with Vol 9, the copies I am getting from the library come from Tokyo Pop. They have westernized the layouts, which causes some awkwardness with Migi's name. Migi is Japanese for "righty," since he lives in Shin's right hand. Now with the panel reversed, he lives in Sihn's left hand and goes by the name "lefty."
The question left hanging at the end of Vol 9 is, is Shin ready to be a single parent. He still has to finish high school and fight parasytes.
Parasyte is not a manga for kids because it’s incredibly cruel, the level of gore in this manga can even make grown up stops reading it. There are a lot of human turns into cut off body parts. There is even a part where an alley is full of human body parts with the blood scattered on the floor and wall.
HOWEVER, apart from the gory images, the story itself is really good. I think it is well written and I like how the story evolves slowly from simple to complicated. AND just like most Japanese manga, there’s a moral message shared through the story. One of my fellow manga/anime lovers also has the same opinion as me…Parasyte is trying to tell us that human are the worst creature on earth. We destroy the nature purposely and while the parasyte kills human for food which is basic need some human kill simply for fun. This manga is trying to say that we should respect nature more.
