Bumblebee buzzes around bothering everyone until he comes to a gentle butterfly who understands that the busy bee is looking for someone to be his friend
Colin West has been writing and illustrating books for children as long as he can remember. He works in the attic studio of his house in Epping, England, which he shares with his wife, Cathie.
3.5 Dj actually really enjoyed this! With some dramatic reading and animation it can be really fun. Just don’t think the story really sticks, and ends up feeling like fluff.
Every creature is bothered by the bumblebee's buzzing, except the butterfly...they decide to buzz away together in friendship. A cute story for repetition and movement.
Used for "UGH!...BUGS!" Storytime-September, 2010.
A requests this book a lot. I modify it to sometimes make the noise of the animal instead of just say Buzz off. For example, donkey says 'hee-haw', crow says 'caw'. Nice to teach animals and animal parts (tail, beak etc). The book has a nice rhythm.
Simple and colorful with a sweet ending. Read in Family Storytime despite reservations about the "buzz off" catchphrase. Kids didn't totally love it but elicited a few "Awws!" from the parents. Will read again.
Especially good for the younger set (toddlers and below). The text is VERY repetitive but provides a great opportunity for children to chime in with the repeated phrases.
