Ellie Elizabeth Jacobs, often known as Monroe due to her fascination with vintage attire and old movies, is an 18 year-old witch and a darned good one! But there is also something very wrong with her. Demonic energy makes her powers stronger, she has the ability to ward off Demons, and Lucifer wants her.
Sometimes being bad is better. Or at least that's how Luther "Thorne" Craig feels. The hybrid Demon son of the cursed Cain and the Demon Lilith, Luther is reluctantly sent to New Orleans, Louisiana by his brother, the hybrid Demon ruler of the Outer Levels of Hell, to protect Monroe from Lucifer's searching Hellhounds.
But what happens when things go wrong?
In this riveting spin off from R.K. Ryals' Redemption series, Monroe is faced with an old grimoire, an ancient curse, and a journey to discover a family secret that may surprise them all.
R.K. Ryals is the author of emotional and gripping young adult and new adult paranormal romance, contemporary romance, and fantasy. With a strong passion for charity and literacy, she works as a full time writer encouraging people to "share the love of reading one book at a time." An avid animal lover and self-proclaimed coffee-holic, R.K. Ryals was born in Jackson, Mississippi and makes her home in the Southern U.S. with her husband, her three daughters, a rescue dog named Oscar the Grouch, A Shitzsu named Tinkerbell, an OCD cat, and a coffee pot she honestly couldn't live without. Should she ever become the owner of a fire-breathing dragon (tame of course), her life would be complete.
So I just finished this book! I loved how quick it was as a read. Super enjoyable and i loved the involvement of Witches, Demons and Fallen Angels. Such a great book for a reading slump
This was an enjoyable read. I liked the characters. Which is always a nice thing. I'm planning on reading the rest of the series. I'm curious to see where this goes.
I love everything R.K. Ryals writes. She is a genius and continues to knock me out with her books. Cursed is another excellent story that I couldn't put down. Cursed is the first book in the Thorne Trilogy and a spin-off from The Redemption Series. We get to know Monroe, Dayton's best friend and follow her journey to discovering more about her strange powers.
Monroe went to New Orleans, LA to stay with her aunt and try to uncover why her powers seem to be linked to demons. What she finds is way more than I ever expected. A brilliant twist full of twists and magic.
Luther (OMG HOT!) is sent by his brother Marcas (my book boyfriend) to protect Monroe from Lucifer who wants to get his hands on her. I never expected that Luther could worm his way into my heart the way Marcas has, but I was so wrong. He is definitely different, with a bit more edge and sarcasm, but just as sexy!
Putting Monroe and Luther together gives you just the right ingredients for one hell of a story. Luther with his bad ass cockiness and Monroe being as fiesty as ever, you get an electrifying cheistry. I loved every second of the banter between the two which was of course intertwined with attraction.
I highly recommend Cursed (You may want to read The Redemption Series too). Witches, demons, and fallen angels, what more could you ask for?
I kind of happened across this book. I'm honestly not sure how, but I'm happy I did. After reading a ridiculous amount of angst and love me/love me not romance, I needed a something to break up the monotony. I found this book for free on Amazon and since free is good, I "bought" it.
Cursed is the first book in the Thorne trilogy, which is apparently a spin-off of the Redemption series. Following me? No? Well, don't feel bad. I'm a bit confused myself. Anywho...
There are witches and demons and fallen angels and seers and time travel and visionaries and... Monroe is a witch with a special power and she accidentally has her powers swapped with her cousin, who also is a special witch. This leads to doom and gloom threats and of course requires protection from a fallen angel and a sexy demon prince (or maybe King? Can't really remember right now.) Stuff goes down. People are in danger. There is some romance. The day is saved, but not completely...because this is a trilogy, after all. There is a sort of HEA with a cliff-hanger, but it's just a small cliff.
So, if you're down with all that, then read this book. Actually, I really liked, so you should read it and like it, too. Because I said so. :)
I felt like I blinked and missed something... Maybe I read a spin off to an original story? Or did I read a heavily edited version?
I am very confused, the start just didn't make sense. I see I should have read 'Redemption' Series and I wouldn't have been so confused, that has been on my 'to read' list for so long...
I feel like I didn't really have enough time to like the characters or dislike them. They just seem to be there. I feel if I had read the original series first I may have liked this more. And I may have understood more what was going on...
So due to all this, I need to go read the original series before I consider carrying on to the next. Not sure I will continue, it was a little boring....
Ok, so I skipped some of the books and now I really need to get the ones before this one. Monroe has a story to tell and feels she has been cursed. Bernice has decided to help Monroe with her Demon problem and in return, ends up switching powers with her. Luther and Lucas join the girls to protect them because now both are being hunted and digging into a little family history might just be the answers they’re looking for but not the answers they wanted. Great story from Ms. Ryals and I have found I series that I will be stalking.
Written from Monroes POV who is a cursed witch along with her cousin. The search is on through out the book as too why two witches are cursed in their family year every generation. Luther and Lucas are the two male leads, one a demon and the other a fallen angel. A demon who will lead you to believe hes bad, but is he really? The question is.... is he really interested in Monroe only for her power or is he drawn to her because he feels for her? Only time will tell but Monroe is drawn to him and feels things she shouldnt. Its a good read....
The story of Monroe and the Ayers curse is well written and very engaging. I finished it in one sitting! If you like witches, demons, and a good fight against/with evil...you'll enjoy this book!
I'm so glad I gave this book a try. It was full of excitement and adventure. The plot was interesting and I really enjoyed the characters. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I feel like I missed something. Is there another series that features the characters because even though this is book 1, I felt like I came in in the middle of a story...
Cursed The Thorne trilogy By RK Ryals Reviewed by Bree High
I love R.K. Ryals! Each time I get the chance to read one of her books, I think she cannot possibly make me love her stories more...Wrong! I adored this story. It was wonderful to get to see life thru Monroe and well Luther come on… I mean nobody makes me love a demon more....Nobody!!
Luther was perfection on the pages; he was cocky and sexy as sin! I loved him. I know I should not and I know he is a demon... blah! Then add Monroe to the mix and I love him more. The story had moments where I laughed out loud, where I wanted to just strangle a few people and my mouth dropped to the floor. I adored Monroe in the Redemption series and I love that I get to meet her on a different level in this story. She still makes me laugh… and I think I spewed some precious coffee R.K. Ryals when the tramp stamp scene took place. The wit and humor weaves from page to page effortlessly. We get to spend some time with some new folks, Bernice and Aunt Clara…Belle. I am sorry Bernice that Luther makes fun of your name. lol The story unfolds page after page. You learn about Luther's life a little with his conversations with Monroe. The Ayers blood line interesting indeed. Twists and turns... Wow! It's just so much is not what she thought. Monroe learns a lot and has to take so much on her shoulders. The relationship between Monroe and Luther... Loved it.
"Look at me," he said and I did. “I live my life out of want rather than need. If I want something, I take it. It's the truth. I don't try to hide it. But I'm only half-demon, Monroe. I do have a tendency to care about people. I don't like it. Hell, I hate it, but it's there. My brother, for one. I would do much. I owe my brother and your friend Dayton, a lot. I like you. I'm fascinated by you. I hate my mother. That's enough for me. If you’re looking for something deeper, you won't find it."
Lucas of course our resident Fallen Angel is here too. Every step of the way in search of the answers to the curse...I became more invested. Will they find it? Will Bernice be ok? Will Monroe? (Read it) Seriously though can someone please kill Lilith already, that woman is just mean! Ha-ha. She really works the whole She-demon thing. I'm not telling you what happens but really I will pay to take her out. Where do I send the check? I think I have made this plea before... Whew! What happens next you must read to find out but trust me you want too! Oh just so you know... This book is full of surprises. We might see some people we know, we might not? Either way The Thorne trilogy ranks high Ms. Ryals! I need book two please now! I'm not beyond begging and bribery. (Demon tactics- ha-ha!)

This is the first book in a new series by R.K. Ryals. I loved it!
Monroe is a fantastic character! I loved her when I first met her in Redemption (The Redemption Trilogy). She was, and is, the best friend of Dayton Blainey. She also happens to be a witch, a very talented one! Being able to sense when demons are around comes in handy sometimes, especially when Luther "Thorne" Craig is concerned!
Luther Craig is a hybrid demon, and brother to Marcus Craig (Dayton's boyfriend). He is a sexy demon! I'm not sure why ladies are drawn to characters like these (myself included!); Maybe it's because there is something wild and uninhibited about these characters, or it's got something to do with the primitive brain being attracted to the dangerous types. Nevertheless, Luther likes being BAD, period! However, being a bodyguard to Monroe was the last thing he wanted; Sent by his brother, he has no choice.
I had been wanting to read this story from the moment I had read a small excerpt of it in an anthology called "Paranormal Days Gone Awry". However, even if I hadn't read the anthology, I would still have wanted to read this series! I have read R.K. Ryals's other series (The Redemption Series and Acropolis Series, not to forget her new series, The Scribes of Medeisia) and loved them, so I knew that Munroe's story would be fantastic! I wasn't wrong! This story is hard to put down once you start reading it! It is fast paced and full of Munroe's snarky thoughts, whether about Luther or her cousin. These comments are quite witty and had me giggling out loud; I got a few odd looks on the bus, let me tell you! This book is also exciting, as there is danger in the form of the hellhounds; They are nasty! And the re-appearance of Lilith, which sent shivers down my back! There is also a matter of a spell gone awry! This further complicates an already complicated situation, and let me just say that Luther is not amused! I am now dying to read the next book in the series!
R.K. Ryals has written another fantastic YA Paranormal Romance Series. She is one of my favourite authors, and I will read anything written by her.
I HIGHLY recommend this series if you love YA Paranormal Romances with demons, angels, gargoyles, witches and strong characters that come alive on the page! I also highly recommend that you read The Redemption Series (to find out how it all began) and Acropolis Series (Conor Reinhardt's story). - Lynn Worton
My review for: Cursed (book one of the Thorne Trilogy) by R.k. Ryals My rating: 5 out of 5 stars Shanna Roberson
Okay, okay. Shut the front door! Words can’t even begin to explain how excited I was when I found out there was going to be a Monroe/Luther book.
*insert fangirl scream*
Yeah pretty much that reaction. I was over the moon ecstatic about it. And when all was said and done, Ms. Ryals did not disappoint. (Not that I could ever doubt her.)
All families have their secrets, but most won’t kill you. Unfortunately for Ellie Jacobs (aka Monroe, queen of all things vintage) that wasn’t the case. With her best friend in love and bound to a demon, Monroe is use to all hell breaking loose, just not on her front door.
With a race against time, Monroe’s family tries everything to sever her ties with everything demonic. You see, after a wicked showdown with Lucifer himself, it was brought to everyone’s attention that she could manipulate demonic energy. Everyone including the She-Demon, Lilith and whatever Lilith wants she gets.
And thanks to a magical mishap by her younger cousin, NeeCee more than just Roe is now in danger. With the hybrid Demon Luther Craig by her side, she is thrown into a journey into her family history whether she wants to or not. Yet, it isn’t just her past that disturbs her so…it’s how Luther affects her body and soul.
Oh no one writes Demons quite like R.K. Ryals! *swoon* I can’t get enough of the Craig brothers. I mean EVER. The humor between Monroe and Luther is laugh out loud funny, (look for the tramp stamp people) but don’t be mistaken, the tender moments will break you.
I can’t get enough of this universe. Seriously. Fast-paced, engaging and wonderfully original; only out of the mind of Ms. Ryals could there be so much awesomeness in one book. Oh yeah. It is that good. Can’t wait for more Roe and Luther!
I really liked this book. I had the first trilogy with Dayton and Marcas and I loved that one so when I found out that there was a spinoff series with Monroe and Luther, I knew I had to read it.
It's always nice to read books from the same universe and have old characters make an appearance. This time though, it switched the main cast to Monroe, an Ayers with, and to her family. Oh and the Demon Luther and the fallen Angel Lucas were there too. This story was mainly about the curse that both Monroe and NeeCee (Bernice) had, and trying to figure out what was behind Monroe's Demonic "problem". And so upon further inspection, they find out that it had to deal with one of the Ayers Witch descendent and a deal made with the Demon Lilith.
The whole plot and storyline was well written, and I found myself turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. In most books, I can pretty much throw out a theory ad have it be true when I finish the book but with one, I was in for surprises! The action and choices and pretty much the whole plot was unpredictable and spontaneous, it was a nice change of pace to just get sucked into a story and enjoy it all the way to the end.
I liked the Luther and Monroe interactions, but I would have liked to have seen more of them together. The romance was a little bit, not as much as I would have liked, but it did show that both Luther and Monroe care for each other. It will be a nice to thing to read about and to see grow in the next books.
All in all, it was nice to see the characters grow and become stronger. Monroe learned to accept herself and fight for herself, NeeCee wet through a lot but still stood up for her family, Luther turned out to be not so bad (but he's still bad) and even Dayton and Marcas made an appearance near the end of the book! Definitely a must read if you're a fan of the Redemption trilogy.
Where to begin? Oh I know how about when Hottie Luther comes into our story, yes I think that's a GREAT place to start, "He was sitting, leaning casually against the counter, one leg propped up, his arm flung across it. His other hand rested against the floor." Yes even his body language says 'Cocky Bastard' I love it! Then he speaks which makes my case even more, "I'm trying to decide whether or no to remark on your current choice of employment or your delightful choice in underwear," Luther's deep voice drawled." So demon's in R.K. books have this ability to tattoo (mark) you and in the scene where Monroe finds out she's been 'marked' I found it seriously entertaining: "Um, it's a tattoo of a black serpent curled around a thorny rose." "A freaking tattoo?" I hissed. "Seriously?" A tramp stamp. Luther had given me a tramp stamp! The Demon was nothing if not dramatic. Luther isn't really a bad 'demon' in this book I just don't think he was expecting someone like Monroe to start getting him to fell things. Monroe is a strong willed character she fights Luther every time they turn around, and truly she's starting to fall for the boy, gee I wonder who this reminds us of? (coughDaytonandMarcascough) "That's it?" I asked. "Your fascinated with me?" I laughed. "You would fight your mother for my soul out of fascination?" Yes his mama is back in this book honestly someone needs to kill the b****, my secret hope is Marcas, and Luther will team up and get rid of her once and for all. Did I mention some special people make a re-appearing appearance? No I don't think I did, BUT I can't really say WHO or WHY *winks* as it would give away the surprise!

es that is one word....and it is that and more!!!! Monroe nee Ellie is a cursed witch who has been linked to demons. It is if she exists are part demon and witch all in the same body. Even with the demonic side lurking, her soul is good, which is a contradiction that has haunted her whole life. It seems as though the whole family line of Ayers witches have to bear he results of an ancient error by a foresister who continues through each generation. Enter Luther, son of Lilith. He has had his share of run ins with Monroe in the past. Each single episode leaves him wanting more and more. Lucas his tusty fallen agel sidekick tries to intervene but it just isn't enough. Somehow, someway he and Monroe are meant to collide. Even all the stereotypes of nature cannot stop this from happening.
Foret all the blah blah blah I normally write here in my reviews about characters and flows and plot. If you read one series this year, PLEASE do yourself a favor and make sure this is it. I read this book in the bathtub, at work, everywhere until I finished. I just wanted to take Luther for myself. He reeks of sexiness!!!! What female doesn't love a bad boy with a twisted side and a dash of good thrown in? I was literally on the edge of my seat during the whole last half of the book. It doesn't stop. WHen it ends, you scream that you aren't done yet!!! Yes this happened to me at work, lol. This is an absolute must read that I could go on and on about all day long, but seriously.....YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK! It should be a miniseries or movies somewhere honestly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love RK Ryals and anything she writes! She is one author that sure knows how to captivate her readers from the very start. I fell in love with the Redemption Series, as well as the Acropolis Series, and now The Thorne Trilogy. I am so happy that Monroe has her own series to tell her story, as she has a lot to say, and a lot of back story that we do not get to see in the Redemption Series.
Unfortunately, Monroe finds out about her past, and the history of her family, the Ayers. We all make mistakes, and desperate times sure calls for desperate measures. One witch in Monroe’s family thought she had no other choice but to call upon the she-devil herself, Lillith, after losing everything near and dear to her heart. Little did she know how much it would affect the next generations, and curse them all. Now, it is up to Monroe to figure out how to save not just herself, but her cousin as well. And she has every intent of doing just that, or die trying.
Monroe’s strange connection to a demon may seem like a curse to some; however, it might just be the one thing that can save her now. And her best friend, Dayton, makes a surprise appearance in the end. And who would have thought that a simple pineapple dum dum could make a girl so happy?
I highly suggest this book to anyone; especially if you are a fan of the Redemption Series.
I don't know what it is about the Craig brothers, but I've gotta say, I never thought I would love a Demon! Where Marcas is serious, Luther is more in your face. From book 1 of the Redemption series, I so wanted Luther and Monroe together. Roe definitely felt like the more timid of the 3 friends (herself, Dayton and Conor), but in this book you realize that she isn't so much timid, she just has her own more quiet strength.
I'm thinking outside of the Redemption series, this one is going to be my second favorite. I like Conor's books, but I think it just happens to be those demon brothers and the strong girls that are their matches that draw me in. I just love those bad boys. I also want to know what happens between Luther and Roe as a result of the summoning...I can say that this is one series you can read after the Redemption series vs. the Acropolis series or you can read this one before Redemption without getting lost. The Acropolis series I think made more sense after reading the Redemption series given how entwined they were. And although Roe is a teenager, I think adults will like this series too. Again, not as dark as the Redemption series, but still filled with sacrifices, murder, and possession.
Though this is the first of R. K. Ryals books I have read, it is an awesome read, that I truly found adorable. Yet, I will recommend reading the Redemption series first, as this series is a spin-off of that.
Cursed is a spin-off of the Redemption series by R.K. Ryals and it focuses on Monroe and Luther. I love the interactions between Luther and Monroe. Ellie Jacobs (aka Monroe, queen of all things vintage) is sassy and caring. Luther is cocky and sexy as hell (pun intended). The interaction between the two is extremely entertaining.
Luther is a hybrid......demon/human and the son of the cursed Cain and Lilith. Monroe is one decendant of a blood witch family who happens to have a strange connection to demons. Unfortunatley this leads to Lucifer wanting her, badly.
Things have gone wrong and its because of a spell cast by Monroe's cousin, Neecee (another family witch). Now everyone, including a fallen angel named Lucas, are racing to figure out how, where, when, and why Monroe and Neecee's problems started. So they are searching back through the family tree.
A few twists and turns that I wasn't expecting. I laughed, got angry, and even had a couple of sad moments. All of this made for a wonderful reading experience. I will recommend this to everyone!
