Pagan Portals: Artemis: Goddess of the Wild Hunt & Sovereign Heart

Rate this book
Often pictured running in the woods, Artemis is a goddess unto Herself. She is wild, and She is the Wild. Through Her, we can learn about tapping back into our wildness, learning to care for our hearts, and returning to the places that we have been told to fear. Artemis’ aim is always true, some say, and building a relationship with Her can help set the best direction for our own arrows.

This is a fantastic guide to the goddess Artemis! It’s very practical and insightful, without being didactic or overwhelming in historical quotations. But I will say that I loved how many original hymns and historical sources were quoted. This is not a light read despite being a small book, it is simply to the point!

Irisanya really gets it: she gets right to the heart of the sovereign heart goddess. She shares what matters when working with Artemis and her assessment of her energy is so spot on. I actually live on Artemis’ temple lands near her site at Brauron. And the way her energy feels, from someone who works with her magically and locally, is just like Irisanya writes!

I also really liked the reminders about gods and goddesses as nonbinary and often agendered beings. Irisanya’s use of the word “godd” to represent all gods regardless of their historically recognized gender was really inclusive. And the discussion on artemis as an advocate for body autonomy for women was really moving as well, I feel Artemis is such a great ally for any politically-charged workings that defines women’s rights.

If you are interested in working with Artemis, this is a fantastic resource. I especially recommend it to people who are very overwhelmed about reaching out and not knowing what to expect. This delightful read will bring you the comfort and confidence you need to begin your journey with the Goddess of the Hunt.

I've worked with Artemis over the years, and even after that long, I still learned some things from this book, and I'd definitely recommend it to beginners looking to work with her. Moon not only gives great advice on connecting with and working with Artemis, but delves into the mythology surrounding her a bit. (I have to admit, I loved reading the myths again, it's been awhile). The book is broken down in easy-to-digest sections, and it would be easy to find what you're looking for if you wanted to use this purely as a reference book. The bibliography has a lot of good references if you'd like to do more in-depth research for yourself later on. Highly recommend for anyone who has worked with the goddess and is looking for ways to deepen their connection, or beginners.

Artemis is one of the most intriguing goodess. The myth is about a very independent lady who's ready to kill if she feels abused.
This book is about the wild side of feminime, there's a lot to learn and food for thought even if you think you already knew her.
Well researched and well done.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
