No More Hurt: The inspiring true story of a mother's fight to save her children from the nightmare sexual abuse

Rate this book
'You'd tell me if Daddy touched your private parts, wouldn't you, Carolina?'

'No,' said Carolina firmly.

'Why not, honey?'

'Because it's a secret.'

It is only when long-buried memories from her own childhood start to surface that Ellen realises the terrible truth about her two young daughters: Carolina and Amy are being sexually abused by their father.

Ellen writes with unflinching honesty about the heartbreak of finding out her daughters were abused, her fears of losing custody and her fight to have her story believed by sceptical doctors and social workers.

A harrowing true story of sexual abuse from a mother's point of view, No More Hurt is a deeply affecting chronicle of Ellen's hard-won battle to create a place of safety and love for herself and her daughters.

No More Hurt is not an easy book, but it is stunningly beautiful. Hamilton deftly weaves in scenes from her childhood that return to her memory after discovering her partner was sexually abusing her two very young daughters. It is hard subject material, but Hamilton manages to create an urgency to the story that makes the reader want to hang on till the end, and there is some stunningly beautiful prose in parts. Hamilton also was able to do something that is incredibly tough for a memoirist- she created a full picture of her abusive partner, not a one-dimensional sketch of a villain. The author's ability to step outside her own feelings of rage and horror and to see her partner (and to a certain extent, her abusive father) as a very flawed human being is what makes this book great. This is one of those books that stay with you long after you finish.

A very difficult book to read. So hard to understand how any person, especially a father could abuse their child or for that matter any child. I can only imagine the stress Elaine was under trying to keep her daughters safe when no one would believe her. The system of keeping her daughters safe failed her in so many ways.

When a book is based on a true story, you immediately realise it by the details and emotion it gives you. Even though one knows about those abuses, hearing it from a victim is something completely different.

I randomly found this book at a free book shelf on the side of the road.
It was such a light book to pick up, and such a heavy book to put down.
I have sat for the past 6 hours and read the whole thing.
Just read it.

I find it so appalling that any adult can abuse a child. They are so innocent and to take that innocence away is beyond my comprehension. IT IS SICKENING!!! I don't know how I felt about reading this book. It saddened me but I'm glad the girls got their lives back to as normal as they possibly can be.

I picked this up off a swap shelf without really knowing much about it. In many ways it was very hard to read, even though I thought it was quite well-written. It boggles the mind to think this can happen, and the uphill battle to be taken seriously and get help is alarming.

Well........i have a bit to say about this book and it isnt good,
This book is true life and within the 1st 100 pages i was furious, What kind o mother is Ellen, all these things that were happening and i saw them immediately as red flags she was dismissing them,
What kind of woman stays with a man after she has caught him masturbating with his 1 week old daughter in his arms, then if that wasnt enough she stuck by him, and then he was making comments that would be screaming at me to get my daughters out of there ASAP. instead she leaves him to babysit while she goes to work, WTH
Even when it has been confirmed that he has sexually abused his daughters she still says she misses her husband, this is beyond me as a parent that i could think of going back to my husband if he abused my daughters is preposterous.
Also the system in 1980s was so fucked up.
I cannot star rate this as you cant star someones life. but im still in shock.
